Effects of Aqueous Green Tea Extracts with $\alpha$-Tocopherol and Lecithin on the Lipid Metabolism in Serum and Liver of Rats (녹차 물 추출물에 토코페롤과 레시틴 첨가가 흰쥐의 혈청과 간의 지질대사에 미치는 영향)

  • The antioxidant effects of aqueous green tea extracts with $\alpha$-tocopherol and lecithin dissolved in lard were investigated on the lipid metabolism in serum and liver of Sprague-Dawley male rats. Elderly male rats were fed for 8 weeks by different experimental diets containing 10% lard(w/w), 0.5% aqueous green tea extracts, 0.05% $\alpha$-tocopherol and 1.0% lecithin. By the addition of the mixture of the antioxidants, the level of total cholesterol. HDL-cholesterol and triglyceride in serum and liver were not changed. The activities of glutathione peroxidase were significantly increased in the case of addition of the antioxdant mixtures but the activities of superoxide dismutase and glutathione S-transferase were not affected.

  • This study was performed to investigate the effects of green tea activites in rats with administration of aluminum in drinking green tea. Male Sprague-Daweley rats were divided into five groups consisting of the control, aqueous green tea at the level of 1.5%, a aquous green tea(1.5%) and aluminum sulfate solution 500ppm, before the 2 weeks administration by aquous green tea(1.5%) and after the 2 weeks aluminum sulfate solution 500ppm, aluminum sulfate solution 500ppm. After 4weeks of feeding, serum enzymes activites were measured for experimental rats, and analyzed the activites of alanine amino trans aminase(ALT), asparate amino transminase(AST) , lactate dehydrogenase(LDH), cholinesterase(ChE). Comparing to control group, Alanine amino trans aminase (ALT) was decreased in aqueous green tea administrated group and increased significantly administration by aluminum sulfate solution 500ppm group. Alanine amino trans aminase(ALT) was decreased administration by aqueous green tea group and Increased addition to aluminum sulfate solution 500ppm group as compared to control group. Lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) was increased compared to control group by experimental group and increased significantly administration by aluminum sulfate solution 500ppm. Cholinesterase (ChE) activity was decreased compared to control group by experimental group.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of green tea, black tea, barley tea and roasted corn tea used in South Korea to make tea on the formation of Streptococcus mutans biofilm. The aqueous samples of 4 types of tea were extracted from commercial tea bags using cold water ($7^{\circ}C$) or hot water ($72^{\circ}C$). S. mutans UA 159 was introduced into 96-well plates which contained the tea samples and 1% sucrose media. Crystal violet staining was used to assess the effects of teas on S. mutans biofilm formation. In both groups of green tea and black tea, the biofilm significantly decreased with the solution of $50{\mu}L$ aqueous sample in $200{\mu}L$ media and $100{\mu}L$ aqueous sample in $100{\mu}L$ media (p < 0.05). S. mutans biofilm with $25{\mu}L$ of barley tea or roasted corn tea aqueous sample in hot water ($72^{\circ}C$) for 10 minutes showed significant decrease compared of green tea or black tea (p < 0.05). In this study, green tea and black tea suppress the formation of S. mutans biofilm.

The Effects of Green Tea on the Serum Lipid and Liver Tissue of Cholesterol Fed Rats (녹차의 음용이 지방과 콜레스테롤을 투여한 흰쥐의 혈청지질 및 간의 조직에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effects of green tea on fat metabolism of rats and prevention to cardiovascular disease in drinking green tea. Male Spague-Dawley rats were divided into seven groups consisting of the control, lard and cholestrol, aqueous green tea at the level of 1% and 3%. After 4 weeks of feeding serum lipid levels were measured for experimental rats, and analyzed the total cholesterol (TC), HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C), triglyceride (TG), phospholipid (PL). And total lipid (TL) to Folch method, lipid deposition to oil red O staining on liver tissue. The results are as follows: Total cholesterol (TC) decreased by administration of 1% aqueous green tea group and increased addition to lard and cholesterol (LC) group as compared to each groups (p<0.05). HDL-cholestrol in serum increased by administration of la aqueous green tea group (1G) and decreased to the control group, 1% aqueous green tea (L-1G) added lard group (p<0.05). Triglyceride (TG) decreased by administration of 3% aqueous green tea groups (L-3G, LC-3G) and increased by lard and cholesterol group (LC) (p<0.01). Phospholipid(PL) decreased by administration of 3% aqueous green tea added lard and cholesterol group (LC-3G) and increased by control group, lard and cholestrol group (LC) (p<0.05). Total lipid of liver decreased by administration of aqueous green tea at the level of 1% group and increased by LC group (p<0.01). The fat deposition of liver was increased in fat diet groups and decrease in the drink green tea of some but did not showed significant differences from concentration of the green tea.

Antioxidant Effect of Aqueous Green Tea on Soybean Oil (녹차 수용성 추출물의 대두유에 대한 항산화효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the antioxidant effect of aqueous green tea(AGT) on soybean oil. AGT was freeze-dried and 20% of the freeze-dried aqueous green tea powder (AGTP) was added to soybean oil in the quantities of 0.5%, 1% and 5%. Soybean oil without the addition of AGTP was used as a control. Soybean oil with 0.02% butylated hydroxytoluen(BHT) was used as another experimental sample. Each sample was stored at 6$0^{\circ}C$ for 15 days. The oxidation of these samples was determined by measuring the acid value (AV), peroxide value (POV), and thiobarbituric acid (TBA) value. The result showed that the acid values were lowest in 0.02% BHT, followed by the 0.5% AGTP, 1% AGTP, 5% AGTP and finally the control. When AGTP was added, the peroxide value was lower than both the control and 0.02% BHT. The lowest TBA values were in the 0.5% AGTP followed by 0.02% BHT, 1% AGTP, 5% AGTP and the control, respectively. The 5% AGTP (285 min), 1% AGTP (249 min) and 0.5% AGTP (238) demonstrated longer induction periods, compared to the control (204 min) and the BHT (229 min) by Rancimat method.

Effects of Green and Taste Teas on the Growth and Vacuolating Toxin Titer of Helicobacter pylori (녹차 등의 기호차가 Helicobacter pylori의 증식 억제와 공포화 독소 역가에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of green and taste teas on the in-vitro antimicrobial activity and vacuolating toxin titer of Helicobacter pylori. Crude aqueous extracts prepared by adding 2 g of tea leaf or powder to 100 ml of boiling distilled water, and sterilized by passing through a 0.22 $mutextrm{m}$ membrane filter. Green tea, coffee, and ginger tea showed bactericidal activity on H. pylori within 3 hours. Black tea and ssangwha tea also showed bactericidal activity on H. pylori in 24 hours. Arrowroot tea show no bactericidal effect on H. pylori after 48 hours. Two fold diluted green tea and coffee decreased(1/10,000cfu) the growth of H. pylori in 24 hours, but the two fold diluted black tea, ssangwha tea, and ginger tea showed suppression effect upon of(1/10cfu) H. pylori in 24 hours. The two-fold and 10-fold diluted green tea, coffee and two-fold diluted black tea abrogated the vacuolating toxin titer of H. pylori, but the two-fold and 10-fold diluted ginger, ssangwha, ginseng, and arrowroot tea only reduced the vacuolating toxin titer of H.pylori from 1/2 to 1/8. These result suggest that green tea and coffee have effective antibacterial or bactericidal effects on H.pylori, and that they also have a neutralization effect upon the vacuolating toxin of H.pylori.

  • The effects of aqueous extracts from Korean commercial teas on excessive free radicals were examined utilizing spin trapping, 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical and lipid peroxidation. A potent scavenging effect of green tea and oriental senna tea was dound using sipin trapping. The most effective teasagainst the DPPH radical was green tea, followed inorder by pine leak tea, Chinese gutta percha tea and orietnal senna tea. Similar to the effects of DPPH radical , green tea, pine leaf tea, Chinese gutta percha tea and oriential senna tea had an inhibitory effect on lipid peroxidation. These findings predict that Korean tea is a promising material for scavenging free radicals, and for curing diseases related to free-radical reactions.

  • This study investigated the mordanting effect of natural mordants such as camellia ash, bean chaff ash and pyrolignite of iron(Iron(II) Acetate) on silk fabrics dyed with green tea extracts. Experimental variables include the conditions of extraction and dyeing, and types of natural mordants. Inorganic ion contents In natural mordants were analysed by Induced Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer. In the ash Al, Fe, Si and Mn were in % unit, Cr and Ni were detected in ppm unit, and in the aqueous extracts of the ash all the metal ions were in ppm unit. On the other hand, fairly high content of Al(2.13% ) in camellia ash extract and Fe(7.91% ) in the aqueous extracts of pyrolignite iron were detected. The absorbance intensity of green tea extracts in UV-Visible spectrum increased with the temperature and time of extraction. The maximum absorption wavelength of the extracts appeared at 272.5nm and 210.5nm. The US values of silk fabrics dyed with green tea extracts were increased with temperature and time of dyeing. Surface color of silk fabric dyed with green tea extracts was 9.1YR, but it was changed from 7.9YR to 7.5YR by camellia ash extract and 7.4YR to 6.4YR by bean chaff ash extract with increase in mordant concentration. Pre-mordanted and post-mordanted fabrics with pyrolignite of iron were changed from 1.4YR to 1.1R and 7.2P to 4.2P, respectively.

  • The aqueous Green tea comes to be used with the Oriental medicine plant, it has the numerous health benefits, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti- carcinogenic properties. Epidermal progenitor cells give rise to multiple skin lineages: hair follicle, sebaceous gland and the overlying interfollicular epidermis. Sebocytes are the cells of the sebaceous gland, which synthesize and accumulate lipid dropolets. In order to determine the effect of Green tea on lipid production, several experiments were performed in SZ95 cells (sebocytes). We found that Green tea increased lipid droplets compared with control in a dose-dependent manner. Human sebaceous glands produce sebum, a lipid mixture of squalene, wax esters, triglycerides, cholesterol esters, and free fatty acids that is secreted onto the skin. Therefore, to investigate the effects of Green tea on intracellular lipid levels, we treated SZ95 cells with Green tea, and then examined cholesterol and triglyceride levels. After treatment of the cells with Green tea, the cholesterol and triglyceride levels of SZ95 cells were increased significantly in a dose-dependent manner.

Antioxidant Effect of Aqueous Extract Obtained from Green Tea (녹차 물추출물의 항산화효과)

  • The antioxidant effects of aqueous green tea extract(AGTE) obtained from green tea and its combinations with several synergists on lard were investigated to equalize with that of crude catechin in green tea. The antioxidant effect of crude catechin was about 3-fold higher than that of AGTE. The suitable synergists for AGTE were ${\delta}-tocopherol$ and lecithin, while the tendency of their synergistic effects was different from each other. Addition of ${\delta}-tocopherol$ within 0.05% dosage to lard showed significant synergistic effect, and its synergistic effect decreased with the concentration of AGTE over 0.1% dosage. In combination of AGTE and lecithin, they gradually enhanced synergistic effect on lard with increasing the concentration. The combinations of AGTE, ${\delta}-tocopherol$ and lecithin showed intense synergistic effects and the optimum level of the each component was 0.1% AGTE, 0.05% ${\delta}-tocopherol$ and 1% lecithin. By adding the optimum level of three components to lard, the induction period was lenghtened approximately 8-fold than that of the control owing to their synergism. Comparing the antioxidant effect between the AGTE with synergists and crude catechin, the former was 60% and 20% higher than the latter at 0.1% and 1% dosage respectively.
