We investigated chloride ion effects on anodic dissolution of copper using potentiodynamic method, cyclic voltammtery, chronoamperometry and chronocoulometry. The anodic dissolution reaction of copper in NaCl solution under argon atmosphere is $Cu+2Cl^{-}{\rightleftharpoons}{CuCl_2}^{-}+e^-$ and chloride ion adsorption process in copper surface can be explained by Temkin isotherm.

purpose of this study was to find out problems in experiments for electrolysis of an aqueous CuCl2 solution in high school science textbooks and to suggest an improved experiment considering students' capability of experimenting and laboratory safety in high schools. For this study, the experiments for electrolysis of an aqueous CuCl2 solution presented in 11 high school science textbooks were classified by their experimental methods. After high school chemistry teachers performed the experiments as presented in the high school science textbooks, an analysis was performed on problems of the experiments, and an improved experiment was devised. According to the results of this study, in the experiments for electrolysis of an aqueous CuCl2 solution using a U type tube and a U type tube with branch, reaction velocity of the electrolysis was slow, therefore, a side reaction was generated. In the experiment using a beaker, reaction of each electrode could not be observed separately. And in the experiment using an electrolysis instrument, it was difficult to identify property of the reaction product. In the improved experiment using a reaction vessel of ㅂshape, reaction velocity of the electrolysis was fast, reaction of each electrode could be observed separately, and the side reaction decreased. From these results, it was suggested that the improved experiment would help high school students understand scientific conception regarding electrolysis.
Two copper(II) complexes, [CuL3](ClO4)2 bearing one N-CH2CH2CONH2 group as well as one N-CH2CH2CN group and [CuL4](ClO4)2 bearing two N-CH2CH2CONH2 groups, have been prepared by the selective hydrolysis of [CuL2](ClO4)2 (L2 = C-meso-1,8-bis(cyanoethyl)-5,5,7,12,12,14-hexamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane). The complex [CuL5](ClO4)2 bearing one N-CH2CH2C(=NH)OCH3 and one N-CH2CH2CN groups has been prepared as the major product from the reaction of [CuL2](ClO4)2 with methanol in the presence of triethylamine. In acidic aqueous solution, the N-CH2CH2C(=NH)OCH3 group of [CuL5](ClO4)2 undergoes hydrolysis to yield [CuL6](ClO4)2 bearing both N-CH2CH2COOCH3 and N-CH2CH2CN groups. The crystal structure of [CuL5](ClO4)2 shows that the complex has a slightly distorted square-pyramidal coordination polyhedron with an apical Cu-N (N-CH2CH2C(=NH)OCH3 group) bond. The apical Cu-N bond distance (2.269(3) A) is ca. 0.06 A longer than the apical Cu-O (N-CH2CH2CONH2 group) bond of [CuL4](ClO4)2. The pendant amide group of [CuL3](ClO4)2 is involved in coordination. The carboxylic ester group of [CuL6](ClO4)2 is also coordinated to the metal ion in various solvents but is removed from the coordination sphere in the solid state.
Construction of a liquid membrane type of cupric ion selective electrode and its application to the potentiometric titration have been studied. A liquid ion-exchange membrance was prepared by extracting Cu(II) in aqueous solution into 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol/nitrobenzene. A Ag/AgCl internal reference electrode was dipped into the aqueous reference solution of $1.00 {\times} 10^{-3}M\;Cu(NO_3)_2$ buffered with HAc-NaAc buffer solution, which was in contact with the nitrobenzene extract. The electrode showed the nernstian response to Cu(II) in the concentration range from $1.00{\times} 10^{-6}$ to $1.00{\times} 10^{-3}$M. The most suitable ion-exchanger concentration in the liquid membrane was $1.00{\times} 10^{-4}$M. The selectivity coefficients of the electrode for the various metal cations were investigated. The electrode was applied to the potentiometric titration of Cu(II) with EDTA.

We have manufactured CdS and Cd(Cu)S thin films by chemical bath deposition(CBD) process, and examined the effects of $NH_4Cl$ and TEA. The addition of $NH_4Cl$ remarkably enhanced the film thickness of CdS, however, TEA slightly decreased the film thickness. The thickness of CdS film prepared from the aqueous solution of 0.003 M $CdSO_4$ 0.00008 M $CuSO_4$, 1.3M NH3, 0.03 M $SC(NH_2)_2$ and 0.0009 M $NH_4Cl$ was 210 nm and resistivity of that was $1.2{\times}10^3{\Omega}cm$.
In this paper, CdS/Cd(Cu)S thin films and diodes were manufactured via a chemical bath deposition (CBD) process, and the effects of $NH_4Cl$ and TEA(triethylamine) on the properties of the films were examined. The addition of $NH_4Cl$ significantly increased the thickness of the CdS and Cd(Cu)S films, however, the addition of TEA decreased the thickness in both cases slightly. The addition of $NH_4Cl$ along with TEA increased the film thickness more effectively compared to the addition of only $NH_4Cl$. The thickness of the CdS film prepared from an aqueous solution of 0.007 M $CdSO_4$, 1.3 M $NH_4OH$, 0.03 M $SC(NH_2)_2$, 0.0001 M TEA and 0.03 M $NH_4Cl$ was 310 nm. Dark resistivity of the CdS film was $1.2{\times}10^3\;{\Omega}cm$ and the photo resistivity with $500\;W/cm^2$ irradiation of white light was $20{\Omega}cm$. The Cd(Cu)S/CdS thin film diodes prepared by CBD showed good rectifying characteristics.
The biosorption and desorption of Cr, Cu and Al were carried out using brown marine algae Sargassum fluitans biomass, known as the good biosorbent of heavy metals. The content of alginate bound to light metals could be changed by physical and chemical pretreatment. The maximum uptake of Cr, Cu and Al was independent of the alginate content. The maximum uptaker of Al was two times(mole basis) than those of Cu and Cr. The aluminum-alginate complex was found in the sorption solution of raw and protonated biomass. Most of Cu, Al and light metals sorbed in the biomass were eluted at pH 1.1. However, only 5 to 10% of Cr sorbed was eluted at pH 1.1. The stoiceometric ion exchange between Cu and Ca ion was observed on Cu biosorption with Ca-loaded biomass. A part of Cr ion was bound to biomass as Cr(OH)2+ or Cr(OH)2+. Al was also bound to biomass as multi-valence ion and interfered with the desorbed Ca ion. The behavior of raw S. fluitans in ten consecutive sorption-desorption cycles has been investigated in a packed bed flow-through-column during a continuous removal of copper from a 35 mg/L aqueous solution at pH 5. The eluant used was a 1%(w/v) CaCl2/HC solution at pH 3.
Microfluidic chips are new devices that can manipulate liquids at the micrometer level, and terahertz (THz) time-domain spectroscopy has good applicability in biochemical detection. The combination of these two technologies can shorten the distance between sample and THz wave, reduce THz wave absorption by water, and more effectively analyze the kinetics of biochemical reactions in aqueous solutions. This study investigates the effects of different external magnetic field intensities on the THz transmission characteristics of deionized water, CuSO4, CuCl2, (CH3COO)2Cu, Na2SO4, NaCl, and CH3COONa; the THz spectral intensity of the sample solutions decrease with increasing intensity of the applied magnetic field. Analysis shows that the magnetic field leads to a change in the dipole moment of water molecules in water and electrolyte solutions, which enhances not only the hydrogen-bond networking ability of water but also the hydration around ions in electrolyte solutions, increasing the number of hydrogen bonds. Increasing the intensity of this magnetic field further promotes the hydrogen-bond association between water molecules, weakening the THz transmission intensity of the solution.
The open-chain hexadentate N$_4$, O$_2$ ligands 1,13-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-2,5,9,12-tetraazatridecane-tetrahydrochloride (BSATD${\cdot}$4HCl) and 1,14-bis (2-hydroxybenzyl)-2,6,9,12-tetraazatetradecane-tetrahydrochloride (BSATED${\cdot}$ 4HCl) have been synthesized as their tetrahydrochloride salt and characterized by EA, IR, NMR and Mass. Their proton dissociation constants(log$K^{n}_{H}$) and stability constants(log$K_{ML}$) for Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), and Zn(II) ions were determined in aqueous solution by potentiometry and compared with those of analogous N$_4$, O$_2$ ligands contain ethylenic spacers or propylenic spacers, which make six-membered chelate rings between the aliphatic nitrogen atoms. Synthesis and characterization of [Cu(BSATD)]ClO$_4$ and [Cu(BSATED)](ClO$_4$)$_2$ complexes are described.

A solvent sublation using salphen as a ligand was studied and applied for the determination of trace Ni(II), Co(II) and Cu(II) in water samples. The fundamental study was investigated by a solvent extraction process because the solvent sublation was done by extracting the floated analytes into an organic solvent from the aqueous solution. The salphen complexes of Ni(II), Co(II) and Cu(II) ions were formed in an alkaline solution of more than pH 8 and then they were extracted into m-xylene. It was known that the each metallic ion formed 1 : 1 complex with the salphen and the logarithmic values of extraction constants for the complexes were 3.3 5.1 as an average value. Based on the preliminary study, the procedure was fixed for the separation and concentration of the analytes in samples. Various conditions such as the pH of solutions, the influence of $NaClO_4$, the bubbling rate and time of $N_2$ gas, and the type of organic solvent were optimized. The metal-salphen complexes could be extracted into m-xylene from the solution of more than pH 8, but the pH could be shifted to acidic solution of pH 6 by the addition of $NaClO_4$. In addition, the solvent sublation efficiency of the analytes was increased by adding $NaClO_4$. The recovery of 97-115% was obtained in the spiked samples in which given amounts of 0.3 mg/L Ni(II), 0.8 mg/L Co(II) and 0.04 mg/L Cu(II) were added.
