Semi Empirical Analysis on the Crushing Mechanism of Thin-Walled Rectangular Tubes (박판 4각튜브의 반실험적 압괴메카니즘 해석)

  • A model for analysis of the crushing mechanism of thin-walled rectangular tube is presented. The crushing modes of rectangular tubes may be characterized as either compact or noncompact and the model presented only considers compact modes. The unloading process in the crushing are categorized into three different stages where the distinction is based on the ratio of outward to inward fold length. Using the kinematic relations and the energy conservation principle, the instantaneous crush load is derived. An approximate equation that considers the rolling behavior is also given so that the crush load history may be established. The equation is experimentally proved.

  • In this paper Haar functions are developed to approximate the solutions of continuous time linear system. Properties of Haar functions are first presented, and an explicit expression for the inverse of the Haar operational matrix is presented. Using the inverse of the Haar operational matrix the full order Stein equation should be solved in terms of the solutions of pure algebraic matrix equations, which reduces the computation time remarkably. Finally a numerical example is illustrated to demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper was studied as the following steps. 1) The relation between the brightness and the AC voltage on the EL cell made from ZnS powder was investigated. 2) The relation among the photocurrent, the applied AC voltage and the illumination on the protoconductive cell which was made of CdS powder, was examined. 3) From the above relations approximate equations were made. Also the theoretical gain equation of the light amplifier was derived. 4) Comparing the theoretical gain value to the experimental gain value of the light amplifier which was composed of EL and PC cells, it was come to the conclusion that the gain equation was correct within 2% errors and was useful to comprehensibility of the light amplifier and to design of it.

Free vibrations of fluid conveying microbeams under non-ideal boundary conditions

  • In this study, vibration analysis of fluid conveying microbeams under non-ideal boundary conditions (BCs) is performed. The objective of the present paper is to describe the effects of non-ideal BCs on linear vibrations of fluid conveying microbeams. Non-ideal BCs are modeled as a linear combination of ideal clamped and ideal simply supported boundary conditions by using the weighting factor (k). Non-ideal clamped and non-ideal simply supported beams are both considered to show the effects of BCs. Equations of motion of the beam under the effect of moving fluid are obtained by using Hamilton principle. Method of multiple scales which is one of the perturbation techniques is applied to the governing linear equation of motion. Approximate solutions of the linear equation are obtained and the effects of system parameters and non-ideal BCs on natural frequencies are presented. Results indicate that, natural frequencies of fluid conveying microbeam changed significantly by varying the weighting factor k. This change is more remarkable for clamped microbeams rather than simply supported ones.

  • Performing random number simulations, we approximated that the distribution of the number of ways for arranging molecules randomly on a lattice is a normal distributon for N12, the number of interactions between the nearest neighbors of different molecules. From this distribution, an approximate equation of the excess Gibbs energy GE for a lattice solution of nonrandom mixing was derived. Using the equation, liquid-vapor equilibria of several binary solutions were calculated and compared with the calculated result of other equations.

  • This paper presents the analytical results of local buckling of orthotropic I-shape compression members. Employing the equilibrium approach, the characteristic equation for local buckling of I-shape compression member is derived. Using the derived equation, the minimum buckling coefficients with respect to the ratio of width to thickness for the I-shape column are suggested as a graphical form. In addition, the dominant plate component initiating the local buckling of I-shape column is also identified by using the approximate solution and the results are plotted with dotted line on the minimum bucking coefficient curve.

  • In this paper the Milstein method is proposed to approximate the solution of a linear stochastic differential equation with Poisson-driven jumps. The strong Milstein method and the weak Milstein method are shown to capture the mean square stability of the system. Furthermore using some technique, our result shows that these two kinds of Milstein methods can well reproduce the stochastically asymptotical stability of the system for all sufficiently small time-steps. Some numerical experiments are given to demonstrate the conclusions.

  • A numerical study of underexpanded jet and impingement on a wall mounted at various distances from the nozzle exit is presented. The 3-dimensional Wavier-Stokes equations and κ-ω turbulence equations are solved. The grids are constructed as overlapped grid systems to examine the distance effect. The DADI method is applied to obtain steady-state solutions. To avoid numerical instability such as the carbuncle phenomena that sometimes accompany approximate Riemann solver, the HLLE+ scheme is employed for the inviscid flux at the cell interfaces. A goal of this work is to apply a number of two-equation turbulence models based on the w equation to the impinging jet problem.

  • A numerical method is proposed and analyzed to approximate a mathematical model of age-dependent population dynamics with spatial diffusion. The model takes a form of nonlinear and nonlocal system of integro-differential equations. A finite difference method along the characteristic age-time direction is considered and primal mixed finite elements are used in the spatial variable. A priori error estimates are derived for the relevant variables.
