  • To model the atmospheric dispersion of radionuclides released from nuclear accident is very important for nuclear emergency. But the uncertainty of model parameters, such as source term and meteorological data, may significantly affect the prediction accuracy. Data assimilation (DA) is usually used to improve the model prediction with the measurements. The paper proposed a parameter bias transformation method combined with Lagrangian puff model to perform DA. The method uses the transformation of coordinates to approximate the effect of parameters bias. The uncertainty of four model parameters is considered in the paper: release rate, wind speed, wind direction and plume height. And particle swarm optimization is used for searching the optimal parameters. Twin experiment and Kincaid experiment are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The results show that the proposed method can effectively increase the reliability of model prediction and estimate the parameters. It has the advantage of clear concept and simple calculation. It will be useful for improving the result of atmospheric dispersion model at the early stage of nuclear emergency.

  • In this study I recognized the problems with the use of the terms 'quotient' and 'reminder' in the division of decimal and explored ways to improve them. The prior studies and current textbooks critically analyzed because each researcher has different views on the use of the terms 'quotient' and 'reminder' because of the same view of the values in the division calculation. As a result of this study, I proposed to view the result 'q' and 'r' of division of decimals by division algorithms b=a×q+r as 'quotient' and 'reminder', and the amount equal to or smaller to q the problem context as a final 'result value' and the residual value as 'remained value'. It was also proposed that the approximate value represented by rounding the quotient should not be referred to as 'quotient'.

  • This paper presents an assessment of applicability of the multigroup cross sections generated with Monte Carlo tools to the fast reactor analysis based on transport calculations. 33-group cross section sets were generated for simple one- (1-D) and two-dimensional (2-D) sodium-cooled fast reactor problems using the SERPENT code and applied to deterministic steady-state and depletion calculations. Relative to the reference continuous-energy SERPENT results, with the transport corrected P0 scattering cross section, the k-eff value was overestimated by 506 and 588 pcm for 1-D and 2-D problems, respectively, since anisotropic scattering is important in fast reactors. When the scattering order was increased to P5, the 1-D and 2-D problem errors were increased to 577 and 643 pcm, respectively. A sensitivity and uncertainty analysis with the PERSENT code indicated that these large k-eff errors cannot be attributed to the statistical uncertainties of cross sections and they are likely due to the approximate anisotropic scattering matrices determined by scalar flux weighting. The anisotropic scattering cross sections were alternatively generated using the MC2-3 code and merged with the SERPENT cross sections. The mixed cross section set consistently reduced the errors in k-eff, assembly powers, and nuclide densities. For example, in the 2-D calculation with P3 scattering order, the k-eff error was reduced from 634 pcm to -223 pcm. The maximum error in assembly power was reduced from 2.8% to 0.8% and the RMS error was reduced from 1.4% to 0.4%. The maximum error in the nuclide densities at the end of 12-month depletion that occurred in 237Np was reduced from 3.4% to 1.5%. The errors of the other nuclides are also reduced consistently, for example, from 1.1% to 0.1% for 235U, from 2.2% to 0.7% for 238Pu, and from 1.6% to 0.2% for 241Pu. These results indicate that the scalar flux weighted anisotropic scattering cross sections of SERPENT may not be adequate for application to fast reactors where anisotropic scattering is important.

  • An analysis using a statistical method is generally used to determine the effective temperature based on the temperature design load of a bridge. In this study, the effective temperature was calculated by building an artificial neural network (ANN) capable of improving the statistical method. A Steel box girder bridge specimen was made with a width of 2.0 m, height of 2.0 m, and length of 3.0 m and 0.2 m the upper slab. Twenty one temperature gauges were attached to measure the temperature between 2014 and 2016 for three years. An ANN was learned using the data measured from 2014~2015 and the results were compared with the Euro codes. The error rate between the Euro code and statistical analysis values was analyzed to be 4.1 % for the total measurement point. The ANN was verified and the effective bridge temperatures were calculated using the temperature data measured in 2016. The results revealed an approximate 3.97 % difference from the statistical analysis values. This degree of error is considered to be acceptable in terms of engineering for the analysis of an ANN. An ANN can easily predict the effective temperature of a bridge by knowing the input values of the region's highest temperature, bridge type, and upper asphalt thickness when designing the bridge's temperature loads.

  • Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is a technique that delivers a high dose to a target legion and a low dose to a critical organ through only one or a few irradiations. For this purpose, many mathematical methods for optimization have been proposed. There are some limitations to using these methods: the long calculation time and difficulty in finding a unique solution due to different tumor shapes. In this study, many clinical target shapes were examined to find a typical pattern of tumor shapes from which some possible ideal geometrical shapes, such as spheres, cylinders, cones or a combination, are assumed to approximate real tumor shapes. Using the arrangement of multiple isocenters, optimum variables, such as isocenter positions or collimator size, were determined. A database was formed from these results. The optimization procedure consisted of the following steps: Any shape of tumor was first assumed to an ideal model through a geometry comparison algorithm, then optimum variables for ideal geometry chosen from the predetermined database, followed by a final adjustment of the optimum parameters using the real tumor shape. Although the result of applying the database to other patients was not superior to the result of optimization in each case, it can be acceptable as a plan starling point.

The Effect of ${\pi}$ Bonds on the Calculated Dipole Moments for Tetrahedral and Square Planar [M(Ⅱ)$O_2S_2$] Type Complexes [M(II) = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II)] (사면체 및 사각형 [M(II)$O_2S_2$]형태 착물의 쌍극자 모멘트에 대한 ${\pi}$결합의 영향 [M(II) = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) 및 Zn])

  • The effect of ${\pi}$ bonds on the calculated dipole moments for square planar and tetrahedral [M(II)$O_2S_2$]] type complexes has been investigated by two different approaches. One is the approximate molecular orbital method based on the assumption that the mixing coefficient CM of the valence basis sets for the central metal ion and the appropriate ligand orbitals is equal for all ${\sigma}$ and ${\pi}$ bonding molecular orbitals. The other is the more refined calculation based on the semiempirical LCAO-MO method. If ${\sigma}$ bonds only are assumed to be formed, the calculated dipole moments for square planar and tetrahedral complexes are lower than those of the experimental values. If the contribution of ${\pi}$ bonds to the calculated dipole moments are fully considered, the calculated dipole moments for both square planar and tetrahedral [M(II)$O_2S_2$]] type complexes are higher than the experimental values. However if ${\pi}$ bonds are assumed to be delocalzed, the calculated dipole moments for tetrahedral [M(II$O_2S_2$]] type complexes fall in the range of the experimental values, but those for square planar complexes deviate from the experimental values. These results suggest that [M(II)$O_2S_2$]] type complexes may have the tetrahedral structure in inert solvent solution. This structure is in agreement with the experimental one. The calculated dipole moments for tetrahedral [M(II)$O_2S_2$]] type complexes indicate that the contribution of ${\pi}$ bonds to the calculated dipole moments may not be neglected.

  • The SCS Curve Number(CN) method has become widely accepted as a procedure of estimating stormflow volumes for design and natural events in small watersheds. The applicability of this method for calculating the flushing time was evaluated as compared with the net volume transport(NVT) method in Masan Bay, Korea. It is shown that the flushing time using the CN method ranged from 10.9 to 15.3 days under the well mixed condition, that the time using the NVT method was 13.9 days averaged over 6 days of field data. These results were revealed that two methods calculated the approximate times as shown above. The relationships between the run-off, Qr, and the flushing time, t, are expressed as the following forms. $t_1=228.79Q_r^{-0.9996}$ in case of well mixed condition, (1) $t_2=131.06Q_r^{-1.0}$ in case of two layered model. (2) Those empirical expressions are represented that the relationships between Q and t are nonlinear as those as Bumpus obtained in Boston Inner Harbour. Therefore, the CN method will permit calculation of the flushing time for any given bay to be unexpected as water balance under the condition of short-time (0.5 day) data, instead of NVT method based on the long-time (at least 3 days over) data.

  • In today's world, rise in the establishment of social infrastructure resulting from population saturation in large cities has led to more extensive and frequent use of chemical materials on facilities. A result, unexpected and serious accidents, hazards, contingencies and disasters are more prevalent than ever. Such phenomenon calls for more devoted and concerted efforts towards finding ways to reduce the safety hazards that are seen to take place more often than before with the increase in the number of facilities that are prone to bring disaster and hazard coupled with the conventional safety problems that continue to exist even today. In developed countries, such challenge is addressed by various appropriate countermeasures drawn up by local professional committees on industrial facilities, whose members conduct offsite and onsite evaluation un the potential industrial disasters and its seriousness and provide their advice thereof. Against this backdrop, this study aims at identifying a comprehensive safety allowance level (safety acceptable level) when imposing limitation on the development of conventional or new facilities, for the fur pose of establishing a safety allowance level of disastrous and dangerous facilities in Korea. This is done by assessing and applying the level of danger each individual is exposed to in a randomly selected region (disastrous and dangerous areas in Seoul) based on probability of quantitative hazards, as well as simulation and calculation methods which include: i) social disaster evaluation method applying Quantified Risk Assessment of Health & Safety Executive of UK and Matrix of Risk of Evaluated Sources of Hazard; ii) Fault Tree or Event Tree Analysis and etc.

  • Characteristics of radiation field in the steam generator(S/G) water chamber of a PWR were investigated and the anticipated effective dose rates to the worker in the S/G chamber were evaluated by Monte Carlo simulation. The results of crud analysis in the S/G of the Kori nuclear power plant unit 1 were adopted for the source term. The MCNP4A code was used with the MIRD type anthropomorphic sex-specific mathematical phantoms for the calculation of effective doses. The radiation field intensity is dominated by downward rays, from the U-tube region, having approximate cosine distribution with respect to the polar angle. The effective dose rates to adults of nominal body size and of small body size(The phantom for a 15 year-old person was applied for this purpose) appeared to be 36.22 and 37.06 $mSvh^{-1}$) respectively, which implies that the body size effect is negligible. Meanwhile, the equivalent dose rates at three representative positions corresponding to head, chest and lower abdomen of the phantom, calculated using the estimated exposure rates, the energy spectrum and the conversion coefficients given in ICRU47, were 118, 71 and 57 $mSvh^{-1}$, respectively. This implies that the deep dose equivalent or the effective dose obtained from the personal dosimeter reading would be the over-estimate the effective dose by about two times. This justifies, with possible under- or over- response of the dosimeters to radiation of slant incidence, necessity of very careful planning and interpretation for the dosimetry of workers exposed to a non-regular radiation field of high intensity.

  • In Korea, the zero energy building was designated as the 7 new industries in the Ministry of Land and the 8 new industries in the Ministry of Industry. In order to maximize the insulation performance of the building envelope, improve the efficiency of building equipment, We are aiming. It is necessary to analyze the energy requirements of the buildings (cooling, heating, hot water supply, lighting, ventilation) of buildings with energy efficiency level of 1++ which is equivalent to the zero energy building certification system in Korea, It is aimed to be used as basic data for the advancement of energy building certification system. Zero Energy Building certification is estimated to be 61 buildings by 2017, and the approximate reference value and the first energy requirement for each of the five loads are calculated considering passive and active aspects. It is difficult to say that it is a clear standard because there is a small sample of data for calculating the load standard. However, it is necessary to interpret various methods in order to upgrade the Zero Energy Building certification standard in the future.
