Thermal Insulation of Protective Clothing Materials in Extreme Cold Conditions

  • Background: Thermophysiological comfort in a cold environment is mainly ensured by clothing. However, the thermal performance and protective abilities of textile fabrics may be sensitive to extreme environmental conditions. This article evaluated the thermal insulation properties of three technical textile assemblies and determined the influence of environmental parameters (temperature, humidity, and wind speed) on their insulation capacity. Methods: Thermal insulation capacity and air permeability of the assemblies were determined experimentally. A sweating-guarded hotplate apparatus, commonly called the "skin model," based on International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 11092 standard and simulating the heat transfer from the body surface to the environment through clothing material, was adopted for the thermal resistance measurements. Results: It was found that the assemblies lost about 85% of their thermal insulation with increasing wind speed from 0 to 16 km/h. Under certain conditions, values approaching 1 clo have been measured. On the other hand, the results showed that temperature variation in the range (-40℃, 30℃), as well as humidity ratio changes (5 g/kg, 20 g/kg), had a limited influence on the thermal insulation of the studied assemblies. Conclusion: The present study showed that the most important variable impacting the thermal performance and protective abilities of textile fabrics is the wind speed, a parameter not taken into account by ISO 11092.

교차로 딜레마 구간 위험도 평가 모델에 관한 연구 (A Study on Developing Intersection Dilemma Zone Evaluation Model)

  • 본 연구에서는 교차로의 안전성을 제고를 위해, 교차로 접근로의 차량 접근속도분포에 기초하여 차량이 통과할 때 경험할 것으로 기대되는 딜레마 구간 길이를 산정하여 이를 위험도 평가수치로 활용하고자 하였다. 현장 교차로에 모형 적용 결과 대체로 모든 접근로에서 딜레마 구간이 발생하고 있었는데, 이는 황색시간이 잘못 적용된 결과인 것으로 분석되었으며, 황색시간을 적절히 재산정하여 모형에 적용한 결과 위험도가 개선되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 위험도 평가시 속도분포를 정규분포로 가정하고 적용했을 때, 실제 속도분포를 적용했을 때의 근사치에 해당되는 값을 얻을 수 있었다. 교차로의 위험도를 평가하여 위험도 수치가 높은 교차로 경우, 위험도를 개선시키기 위해서는 황색시간을 재조정하여 딜레마 구간의 크기를 줄어들게 하거나, 황색시간을 그대로 유지해야 한다면 단속카메라 등 차량의 접근속도를 낮출 수 있는 수단을 활용하여 차량의 속도를 황색시간 산정 기준속도 이하가 되도록 제어해야한다.

1000MPa급 DP강의 Nd:YAG 레이저 용접부의 기계적 성질과 성형성에 미치는 용접 속도의 영향 (Effect of Welding Speed on Mechanical Properties and Formability in Nd:YAG Laser Welds of 1000MPa Grade DP Steel)

  • The effects of welding speed were investigated on penetration characteristics, defects and mechanical properties including formability test in Nd:YAG laser welded 1000MPa grade DP steels. A shielding gas was not used and bead-on-plate welding was performed with various welding speeds at 3.5kW laser power. Defects of surface and inner beads were not observed in all welding speeds. As the welding speed increased, the weld cross-section varied from the trapezoid having wider bottom bead, through X type, finally to V type in partial penetration range of welding speeds. The characteristic of hardness distribution was also investigated. The center of HAZ had maximum hardness, followed by a slight decrease of hardness as approaching to FZ. Significant softening occurred at the HAZ near BM. Regardless of the welding speed, the weld showed approximately the same hardness distribution. In the perpendicular tensile test with respect to the weld direction, all specimens were fractured at the softening zone. In the parallel tensile test to the weld direction, the first crack occurred at weld center and then propagated into the weld. Good formability over 80% was taken for all welding conditions.

상류부 선형특성을 반영한 지방부 왕복 4차로 연속류 도로의 주행속도 예측모형 개발 (Development of Operating Speed Prediction Models Reflecting Alignment Characteristics of the Upstream Road Sections at Four-Lane Rural Uninterrupted Flow Facility)

  • 본 연구는 주행속도 프로파일 모형의 구성요소 중 주행속도 예측모형과 관련한 것으로서 지방부 왕복 4차로 도로를 대상으로 하고 있으며, 기존 연구들과는 대상도로, 속도 조사방법론 및 선형유형 구분에서 그 차별점이 있다. 기존의 대다수 연구들은 평면곡선부 및 평면직선부 중앙의 지점속도를 측정하고 이 자료를 활용하여 각각의 주행속도 예측모형을 개발하였다. 이러한 방법은 감가속이 평면직선부에서만 발생하고 평면곡선부에서는 일정한 속도를 유지한다는 주행행태에 대한 전통적인 가정에 기반한 것으로서, 구축된 모형에 의해 예측된 주행속도가 과대 과소추정 되거나 또는 실제 운전자의 주행행태를 제대로 묘사하지 못할 가능성이 높다는 한계가 있다. 이와 비교하여 본 연구는 현장에서 약100m 간격으로 연속 조사된 속도자료를 활용하여 실제 도로상에서 관측되는 주행속도 프로파일을 작성하였으며, 연속적인 속도변화를 분석한 결과를 토대로 모형구축에 활용될 자료를 추출하였다. 주행속도 예측모형은 평면선형과 종단선형의 조합에 따라 6가지 선형유형으로 구분되어 개발되었다. 본 연구에서 활용한 주행속도 조사방법 및 선형유형 구분은 주행속도 예측모형에 활용되는 자료 및 이를 기반으로 개발된 모형의 신뢰도를 제고함과 더불어, 연속적인 속도 변화 흐름을 상세하게 분석 평가할 수 있도록 하여 가감속 행태 분석 등 향후 주행행태 관련 분석에 효과적으로 활용될 수 있으며, 더 나아가 설계속도 기반의 현 도로설계기준을 주행속도 기반의 기준으로 보완하는데 활용되어 도로설계자 또는 정책결정자가 아닌 실제 도로를 이용하는 운전자의 관점에서 도로가 설계될 수 있도록 하는데 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

근접 센서를 이용한 로봇 손의 파지 충격 개선 (Grasping Impact-Improvement of Robot Hands using Proximate Sensor)

  • A control method for a robot hand grasping a object in a partially unknown environment will be proposed, where a proximate sensor detecting the distance between the fingertip and object was used. Particularly, the finger joints were driven servo-pneumatically in this study. Based on the proximate sensor signal the finger motion controller could plan the grasping process divided in three phases ; fast aproach, slow transitional contact and contact force control. That is, the fingertip approached to the object with full speed, until the output signal of the proximate sensor began to change. Within the perating range of the proximate sensor, the finger joint was moved by a state-variable feedback position controller in order to obtain a smooth contact with the object. The contact force of fingertip was then controlled using the blocked-line pressure sensitivity of the flow control servovalve for finger joint control. In this way, the grasping impact could be reduced without reducing the object approaching speed. The performance of the proposed grasping method was experimentally compared with that of a open loop-controlled one.

Field measurement and CFD simulation of wind pressures on rectangular attic

  • Wind pressure is a critical argument for the wind-resistant design of structures. The attempt, however, to explore the wind pressure field on buildings still encounters challenges though a large body of researches utilizing wind tunnel tests and wind field simulations were carried out, due to the difficulty in logical treatments on the scale effect and the modeling error. The full-scale measurement has not yet received sufficient attention. By performing a field measurement, the present paper systematically addresses wind pressures on the rectangular attic of a double-tower building. The spatial and temporal correlations among wind speed and wind pressures at measured points are discussed. In order to better understand the wind pressure distribution on the attic facades and its relationship against the approaching flow, a full-scale CFD simulation on the similar rectangular attic is conducted as well. Comparative studies between wind pressure coefficients and those provided in wind-load codes are carried out. It is revealed that in the case of wind attack angle being zero, the wind pressure coefficient of the cross-wind facades exposes remarkable variations along both horizontal and vertical directions; while the wind pressure coefficient of the windward facade remains stable along horizontal direction but exposes remarkable variations along vertical direction. The pattern of wind pressure coefficients, however, is not properly described in the existing wind-load codes.

PD-슬라이딩 모드 제어의 절환을 통한 강인한 SPMSM 속도 제어기 설계 (Design of SPMSM Robust Speed Servo Controller Switching PD and Sliding Mode Control Strategies)

  • The paper proposes a new type of robust speed control strategy for permanent magnet synchronous motor by using PD-sliding mode hybrid control. The PD control has a good performance in the transient region while the sliding mode controller provides the robustness against system uncertainties. Taking advantages of the two control strategies, the proposed control method utilizes the PD control in the approaching region to the sliding surface and the sliding mode control near at the sliding surfaces. The chattering problem of the sliding mode controller is eliminated by applying the saturation function for the switching function of the sliding mode control. The stability of the sliding mode control is verified by using Lyapunov function with the proper selection of variable gains. It is shown that with this simple switching algorithm, stability of the overall hybrid control system is ensured. Through the simulations, the PD-sliding mode algorithm is shown to have a good performance in the transient response as well as being robust against disturbances. The robustness of the PD-sliding mode algorithm is further demonstrated against various external disturbances in the real experiments of SPMSM motor control.

  • 본 논문에서는 동영상 처리에서 사용되는 움직임 추정을 위한 삼단 검색 알고리 즘의 구조에서는 규칙적인 데이타 입력이 가능하게 되고 입력된 데이타는 그 데이타를 사용하는 모든 연산과정을 거치게 되어 데이타 입력 대역폭이 최소화 된다. 기존의 구조 들 보다 적은 자원으로 최대 계산 속도에 접근하는 성능을 가진다. 제안된 구조의 성능 분석과 다른 구조들과의 비교가 제시된다.

Smart Bollard를 이용한 어린이보호구역에서의 안전성 제고에 관한 연구 (School Zone Safety Improvement Using Smart Bollard)

  • 본 연구에서는 어린이보호구역에서 교통안전의 증진을 위하여 상류부에 접근하는 차량의 감속과 어린이보호구역 내에 위치한 횡단보도에서 발생하는 차대사람 간의 교통사고를 최소화하기 위하여 물리적인 보차분리가 가능한 구동식 bollard, 즉 smart bollard를 제안하고 설치와 운영에 요구되는 조건들을 교통공학적인 측면에서 이해하고 그 제원을 제시하였다. 미시적 시뮬레이션 모델을 통해 제안된 smart bollard를 평가해본 결과, 설치 전과 비교하여 구간 평균통행속도와 통과교통량의 감소효과를 보여 어린이보호구역 교통안전의 증진에 효과가 있음을 보였다. 또한 구간 평균통행속도와 통과교통량을 효과적으로 줄여줄 수 있는 가장 결정적인 파라미터는 smart bollard 사전 경보등의 설치에 관여하는 황색신호시간의 길이와 smart bollard의 구동시간으로서 각각 5~6초와 2~3초가 적합한 값으로 판명되었다.

성장곡선 모형 적용을 통한 기술수준평가 사례 연구 : 특정 수산과학기술 분야를 중심으로 (Case Study on Measuring Technology Level Applying Growth Curve Model: Three Core Areas of Fishery Science and Technology)

  • The purpose of this paper is to discuss possibilities of applying growth curve models, such as Logistic, Log-Logistic, Log-Normal, Gompertz and Weibull, to three specific technology areas of Fishery Science and Technology in the process of measuring their technology level between Korea and countries with the state-of-the art level. Technology areas of hazard control of organism, environment restoration, and fish cluster detect were selected for this study. Expert panel survey was conducted to construct relevant panel data for years of 2013, 2016, and a future time of approaching the theoretical maximum technology level. The size of data was 70, 70 and 40 respectively. First finding is that estimation of shape and location parameters of each model was statistically significant, and lack-of-fit test using estimated parameters was statistically rejected for each model, meaning all models were good enough to apply for measuring technology levels. Second, three models other than Pearl and Gompertz seemed very appropriate to apply despite the fact that previous case studies have used only Gompertz and Pearl. This study suggests that Weibull model would be a very valid candidate for the purpose. Third, fish cluster detect technology level is relatively higher for both Korea and a country with the state-of-the-art among three areas as of 2013. However, all three areas seem to be approaching their limits(highest technology level point) until 2020 for countries with the state-of-the-art. This implies that Korea might have to speed up her research activities in order to catch up them prior to 2020. Final suggestion is that future study may better apply various and more appropriate models respectively considering each technology characteristics and other factors.
