This paper reviews four different kinds of currency crisis models proposed to explain the Korean crisis of 1997 to examine which model is more relevant to explain the Korean crisis of 2008. According to the author's investigation, the 'Frenkel-Neftci' cycle is more relevant model to interpret the Korean crisis of 2008. In 2008, spreads opened due to, first, high interest rate policy by the Korean government aimed to suppress real estate price increase, and, second, the expectation about exchange rate appreciation, and thirdly stock market returns after recovering the crisis. Then the international capital market catastrophe due to the subprime crises produced the sudden change of expectation of the market participants. Huge capital outflows resulted from the credit crunch in the international capital markets, and the possibility of exchange rate depreciation by the Korean government to promote exports in the course of the global recession.

Less than 30 years ago a new method was introduced in wind-tunnel testing of tall buildings, known variously as the High-Frequency Base Balance or High-Frequency Force Balance, which revolutionized the determination of design wind loads using model studies. The method is reviewed in hindsight, in the perspective of the present, and with a crystal ball to speculate on future developments. These viewpoints focus on various technical issues that have been solved, are being solved, and need to be solved. The intent is to assist the uninitiated develop appreciation for the technology involved, to identify various pitfalls awaiting those who embark in the method, and to identify areas of need so that practicing design engineers-the users of such studies-can appreciate the limitations and collaborate on future advances while promoting improved communication between executor and user.

The study is an analysis of the responses to a questionare by members of various fishing communities in Korea regarding their opinion about the vocational value of the fishing industry and factors which are acting as obstacles to entrance into the Fisheries High Schools, etc. Subjects were 2,000 : fishermen, members of the fishermen's cooperative society, and teachers and students of the Fisheries High Schools. Results indicated as follows: (a) It would be desirable to have fisheries courses incorperated in middle schools on islands and in fishing villages to improve enthusiasm of middle school students for entrance into Fisheries High Schools. (b) It is desirable that the principal or the administrator of middle schools in fishing villages and on islands should be a person who has majored in fisheries field, and so would support fisheries courses in the middle schools. (c) The level of peoples' appreciation of the fishing industry should be enhanced.

The purpose of this study is to examine the characters and sustainability of built heritage featured in the eight-scenery listings of Gyeonggi municipalities in South Korea. Eight scenery is a place marketing medium that reflects the community's appreciation of the selected resources. For a research method, we utilize framework analysis to understand the cultural resources in three categories: heritage value identification, preservation, and dissemination. Primary sources for data collection include the chosen eleven cities' eight-scenery webpages, the National Cultural Heritage Portal, and articles about the built heritage resources included in the eight scenery. The results of this study show the public's acknowledgment of diverse built heritage, from prestigious monuments to local heritage interpretations, and various preservation and public program development approaches. The conclusion discusses the research findings regarding historic preservation, sustainable development, and place marketing.

The creative characteristics of Culture and Arts organization workers who connect consumers and producers of culture and arts(artists, creators, and producers) are very important in the culture and arts field. Where the cultural and arts organization workers are very important as their achievements are directly related to the appreciation of culture and art. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of creativity on cultural and artistic organizations workers regarding self-efficacy and work performance. The research was conducted on 208 people in national and public cultural organizations and art organizations in Gwangju Jeollanam-do. As a result of the research, originality and challenge of creative characteristics have a positive effect on self-efficacy. However, openness did not have a statistically significant effect on self-efficacy. In addition, self-efficacy has a positive effect on job performance.

In the age of technology and information, communicating with people from different cultures is significantly important. Regarding this perspective, communicative competence has been the focus in the EFL educational context. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of using movies in a culture-integrated English reading course at the college level. In order to achieve this purpose, pre- and post-reading comprehension tests, pre- and post-surveys and in-depth interviews were conducted. The results of data analysis showed that using movies in the culture-integrated English reading class positively affected students' interest and confidence towards English reading as well as their reading achievement. In this respect, we suggest that cultural teaching through movies in English classes should be learner-centered so that learners can proactively analyze and understand different cultural backgrounds shown in the movies and build schemas which can be used in their learning process.

This paper aims to study the influence of environmental attitudes on the choice of non-professional investors. It highlights the role of environmental performance assurance on investment judgments. This choice is due to the motivation and importance that investors place on the disclosure of environmental information. The main purpose of the research is focused on the empirical approach justified by the use of a questionnaire addressed to 200 non-professional investors. The results show that attitudes towards the environment do not correlate with the importance that gives this category of investors to the environmental information.. Subsequently, the results prove that the disclosure of an environmental assurance report has a positive impact on investment judgments independently of their appreciation of the environmental information concerning that of financial order.

Despite the enormous success in Japan of Korean popular culture, including TV dramas and K-pop, over the past few decades, anti-Korean sentiment in the country has become increasingly visible and intense. In this article, we examine how young Japanese female fans of Korean popular culture engage with the Korean Wave discourse while also engaging with―or, rather, disengaging from―anti-Korean movements and hate speech. Whereas previous scholarship on the Korean Wave has emphasized the power of active fans' agency, this paper investigates how the fans who passionately and self-reflexively consume Korean popular culture understand and react to the growing anti-Korean sentiment in Japan. Through in-depth interviews with 15 of these fans in their 20s and 30s, we show how they have navigated the discursive space between appreciation for Korean culture and anti-Koreanism in Japan.

Background: References to insects in myths, stories, and idioms can be found in almost any culture, but with regard to references involving honey bee species in the Asia-Australian region, little information is available. Such references to bees can be highly informative by revealing attitudes of admiration, fear, ignorance, or even revulsion towards these insects. Results: The subject is briefly reviewed and examples of references to bees of selected cultural communities are given. Although folkloristic references to honey bees were found to be mostly positive highlighting fearlessness, cleverness, and industriousness of the bees, some also touch upon their ability to cause pain. Conclusions: Owing to the decreasing contacts and increasing alienization regarding insects generally, a plea is made to collect whatever information is still available about references to bees in songs, myths, stories, proverbs, and idioms and to compare such uses from different regions, e.g., North and South Korea. This would support other fields of research aiming to discover and to describe cultural relationships, migrations, and contacts between different peoples of the Asian/Australian region.

In order to support biomimicry technology development, it is necessary to develop an omnidirectional service platform which can recommend principles of biomimicry and business ideas, providing experts' networks and carrying out their relevant education and promotion on the ground of baseline data and application research materials related to biomimicry. This study was conducted to establish any probable plans for construction and utilization of the future open-platform which will collect and serve the technology of biomimicry. Accordingly, biological and ecological information databases were examined along with the appreciation of construction and management of major biomimicry DB, and, based on the materials from the interview of related experts, a customer journey map was schematized. Lastly, in order to suggest a mid-to-long-term target-model, the roles of a future biomimicry knowledge service-platform were determined along with the potential plans for its construction and management based on case analysis and customers' needs.
