Context-Aware Active Services in Ubiquitous Computing Environments

  • With the advent of ubiquitous computing environments, it has become increasingly important for applications to take full advantage of contextual information, such as the user's location, to offer greater services to the user without any explicit requests. In this paper, we propose context-aware active services based on context-aware middleware for URC systems (CAMUS). The CAMUS is a middleware that provides context-aware applications with a development and execution methodology. Accordingly, the applications based on CAMUS respond in a timely fashion to contextual information. This paper presents the system architecture of CAMUS and illustrates the content recommendation and control service agents with the properties, operations, and tasks for context-aware active services. To evaluate CAMUS, we apply the proposed active services to a TV application domain. We implement and experiment with a TV content recommendation service agent, a control service agent, and TV tasks based on CAMUS. The implemented content recommendation service agent divides the user's preferences into common and specific models to apply other recommendations and applications easily, including the TV content recommendations.

  • In this paper we propose wear-UCAM, which is a toolkit for context-aware application model in wearable computing. As the rapid developments of mobile technologies and relevant technologies, the interests in wearable computer also become indispensible in both academic and industrial fields. However, there are few research activities on the application framework or toolkit for wearable computing. Hence, we suggest wear-UCAM as the development toolkit for wearable computing applications, where we focus on how to collect relevant user context, manage it, and provide services based on the recognized context. The proposed wear-UCAM includes the abstraction of context processing as well as independence among sensors and services with other components. For the sake of rapid prototyping of the proposed toolkit, we utilize PDA with wireless LAN as a wearable computer. The detail explanation of the implementation and its discussion are presented in this paper.

In this paper, we propose context-aware active services on the basis of CAMUS (Context-Aware Middleware for URC Systems). CAMUS is a middleware for providing context-aware applications with development and execution methodology. Accordingly, the applications developed by CAMUS respond in a timely fashion to contexts. To evaluate, we apply proposed active services to TV application domain. Therefore, we implement and experiment the TV contents recommendation service agent, control service agent and TV task based on CAMUS. The context-aware TV task is to recommend programs and control of TV according to user preference, location and voice commands.

  • Context-aware is the core in ubiquitous environment of sensor network to support intelligent and contextual adaptation service. The new context information model is demanded to support context-aware applications. The model should not depend on a specified application and be shareable between applications in the same environment. Also, it should support various context representation and complex context-aware. In this paper, we define the context information according to context-aware process. Also we design the knowledge of domain as well as applications using ontologies and rules. The domain spatial ontology and application knowledge are represented using the spatial object model and the rules of expanded ontologies, respectively. The expression of abundant spatial ontology represents the context information about distance between objects and adjacent object as well as the location of the object. The proposed context information model which is able to exhibit various spatial context and recognizes complex spatial context through the existing GIS. This model shows that it can adapt to a large scale outdoor context-aware applications such as air pollution and prevention of disasters as well as various context-aware applications.

  • The world health organization classified the emerging coronavirus (known as Covid-19) as a pandemic after confirming the extent of spread and scale. As a matter of fact, outbreaks of similar scale or even worse have been witnessed throughout history. Thus, the development of prevention strategies exists to protect against such calamaties. One of the widely proven measures that controls the spread of any contagious diseases is social distancing. As a result, this paper will demonstrate the concept of an application "Be Aware" on enabling the implementation of this preventive measure. In particular "Be aware" evaluates the extent of congestion in public places using current time data. The proposed project will use Global Positioning System (GPS), and Application Programming Interface (API), to ensure information accuracy, and the API use Crowdsourcing to collect Real-Time Data (RTD) from the selected places.   • 다양한 기업 환경 내에서 RFID 애플리케이션 개발 필요성이 기업 내에서 대두 되고 있다. 하지만, 초기 개발 비용이 많이 들고 개발하는 시스템과 기존의 시스템과의 통합 문제 때문에 중소규모의 기업이 개발하기 어려운 상황이다. 이를 해결하기 위해서 본 논문에서는 RFID 애플리케이션을 효율적으로 개발할 수 있도록 본 연구실에서 개발한 Context-aware ALE 애플리케이션 프레임워크(AAF)를 제안하고 이를 이용하여 출석 관리 시스템을 구현하고 있다.

  • To support service based on context-aware in ubiquitous computing environment, there are required context managing, context reasoning and context modeling technologies. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical ontology-based context management model and design a context-aware middleware based on this model for supporting active application adaptability and reflecting users' requirements dynamically in contextual changes. It also provides efficient support for inferencing, interpreting, acquiring and discovering various contexts to build context-aware services and presents a resolution method for context conflict which is occurred in execution of service. The proposed middleware can support the development and operation of various context-aware services, which are required in the ubiquitous computing environment.

  • This work discusses and evaluates the use of wireless and multi-sensor based technologies to develop UbiqBIOPARC, a new generation zoological park that has been created based on the zoo-immersion concept. It offers appropriate contextual information to zoo visitors, depending on their preferences and the environment in which they are positioned. It combines the flexibility of the iPhone SDK, the connectivity provided by 3G technologies, the location capabilities of GPS, and the orientation offered by a digital compass integrated in the device. In this document the overall architecture and the implementation steps followed to create this context-aware application are presented. We compare our system with respect to previous ones and demonstrate that UbiqBIOPARC is an example of how innovative context-aware applications can be built with the aid of GPS and compass features. Several real experiments have been carried out in order to evaluate performance and system behavior, and numerical results demonstrate the practicality offered by our application, while providing a quite reasonable performance in terms of delay, usability, and energy efficiency.

  • Since affective computing has been introduced in 90s, affect recognition technology has achieved substantial progress recently. However, the application of user emotion recognition into software user interface is in its early stages. In this paper, we describe a new approach for developing mobile user interface which could react differently depending on user emotion states. First, an emotion reaction model is presented which determines user interface reactions for each emotional state. We introduce a pair of mappings from user states to different user interface versions. The reacting versions are implemented by a set of variations for a view. Further, we present an authoring framework to help developers/designers to create emotion-aware reactions based on the proposed emotion reaction model. The authoring framework is necessary to alleviate the burden of creating and handling multi versions for views at the development process. A prototype implementation is presented as an extension of the existing authoring tool DAT4UX. Moreover, a proof-of-concept application featuring an emotion-aware interface is developed using the tool.

  • This paper describes the development of cluster-aware application that provides advanced services such as automatic failover, faster error recovery, easy administration and scalability in clustering environment. For These, total system architecture and algorithm are proposed. For the verification this paper, socket application and cluster resource DLL, administration DLL for the application are implemented and tested. Using the microsoft cluster server, The individual failed services was relocated from one server to another. The result shows that allows applications on the original server to continue running, unaffected tv the failed service.
