  • Morphological analysis of wear particles in the lubricating oil is a very effective and versatile means of lubricant analysis for machine condition monitoring and fault diagnosis. The prospects for determining quantitative information about wear particle morphology have been considerably enhanced by recent developments reported in the application of image processing and analysis techniques. This study was undertaken to investigate the influence of oiliness agent and extreme pressure agent on the shape of wear particles. The wear test was performed under different experimental conditions with stearic acid, dibenzyl disulfide(DBDS) and tricresol phosphate(TCP) in paraffinic base oil. Wear particles characteristics were described using four shape parameters, namely 50% volumetric diameter, aspect, roundness and reflectivity. The results showed that the four shape parameters of wear particles depend on a kind of the additives. This analysis of wear debris with computer image processing techniques is sufficient to distinguish some types of wear debris. The wear volume of three kinds of the specimens are affected by the additives with boundary films.

  • In many technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming an important topic for areas based on the field of big data. However, applied AI cases and the research status of radio wave technology are not widely known to the public. The spread of AI to other areas is being followed by radio wave technologies, and much effort is being taken to evolve it into intelligent radio wave technologies in the future. This paper presents the recent areas of interest in radio wave technology, such as spectral sharing, illegal spectrum monitoring, radar detection, radio wave medical imaging, and channel modeling; examines the requirements for applying AI; and describes the applied cases, research trends, and standardization efforts that apply AI technology to them. On this basis, we will discuss the prospects of AI application to the expected radio wave technology of the future.

  • At the paper the method of 3D holographic moving image reconstruction is discused. The main idea of this method is based on the substitution of optically created static hologram by equal diffraction array created by acoustical (AO) field which formed by bulk sound waves. Such sound field can be considered as dynamic optical hologram, which is electrically controlled. At the certain moment of time when the whole hologram already formed, the reference optical beam illuminates it, and due to acoustooptical interaction the original optical image is reconstructed. As the acoustically created dynamic optical hologram is electronically controlled, it can be used for moving 3-dimentional scene reconstruction in real time. The architecture of holographic display for moving scene reconstruction is presented at this paper. The calculated variant of such display laboratory model is. given and discussed. The mathematical simulation of step by step images recording and reconstruction is given. The pictures of calculated reconstructed images are presented. The prospects, application areas, shortcomings and main problems are discussed.

  • It has become clear that through the use of force/torque sensing many previously uneconomical or unsuccessful applications can now be performed successfully. The earlier-anticipated boom of robots dominating factory production has not yet occured. Many robot installations have not met the initial expectations of users or have failed completely, souring the prospects of future robotic applications. Yet the reason many of these earlier applications have failed is very basic, that is that the robot was expected to blindly perform a task perfectly in an imperfect environment. There must be an additional level of feedback so that the robot may adapt to these imperfections, thus ensuring the ultimate success of the application. This additional level of real-world sensing is provided by force/torque sensors and their continued use will ensure the eventual proliferation of factory robots.

  • The point we made in this paper is that, although detailed and precise three-dimensional (3D) whole-core transport calculations may be obtained in the future with massively parallel computers, they would have an application to only some of the problems of the nuclear industry, more precisely those regarding multiphysics or for methodology validation or nuclear safety calculations. On the other hand, typical design reactor cycle calculations comprising many one-point core calculations can have very strict constraints in computing time and will not directly benefit from the advances in computations in large scale computers. Consequently, in this paper we review some of the deterministic 3D transport methods which in the very near future may have potential for industrial applications and, even with low-order approximations such as a low resolution in energy, might represent an advantage as compared with present industrial methodology, for which one of the main approximations is due to power reconstruction. These methods comprise the response-matrix method and methods based on the two-dimensional (2D) method of characteristics, such as the fusion method.

  • This lecture will begin by tracing some of the history behind techniques that we nowadays take for granted in the practice of embryo transfer, and in the application of the technique to various animal biotechnologies. It will be argued that an appreciation of such history can teach us a great deal about how we need to study and teach the subject, and about the best ways to conduct and finance the research that is essential to further progress. Examples in support of this argument will be taken from the changes that have occurred in the way embryos, particularly bovine embryos, have been collected, maintained in vitro, subjected to a variety of manipulations (sexing, division to produce identical animals, combination into chimeras, transfection with foreign genes), frozen and thawed, and transferred over the past 50 years. • A metamaterial is a material engineered to have a property that does not exist in nature. A designable material property can be achieved by tailoring its structure, and thus a metamaterial is a novel ICT material and component technology that can break through the limitations of conventional technologies. Among the metamaterials available, a perfect metamaterial absorber is a technology that can nearly absorb light, sound waves, thermal waves, and electromagnetic waves with a simple structure, and has been of significant interest in energy, display, sensor, stealth, and military applications, with wavelengths from visible light to microwaves. In this article, we introduce a brief description of metamaterial absorber technology, the critical issues for its application, as well as ETRI's developed metamaterial absorber technology and its prospects for future use.

  • A number of success story about various application areas including manufacturing, accounting, finance, education, and engineering are reported. MIS professionals predicted that expert systems would improve the productivity enormously. However, the expert system revolution has not happened yet. Although not reported in the open society widely, there are failure stories of expert systems. Most of problems concerning expert system failure stem from the non-technical issues such as cognitive and psychological problems rather than the technical issues. We hypothesize that human factor principle enables designers to handle most of these non-technical problems elegantly and to improve the performance and acceptance of the expert systems. Major reasons for expert system failure and needs of human factors are discussed. Human factor guidelines to expert system make the prospects of the expert systems with human factors clear and understandable.

  • Conversion of light energy to electrical energy by using a solar cell has long been considered as one of the option for an electrical energy supply in the future. In the past, commercial use was restricted largely to remote area applications where conventional electricity is expensive. Recently, the major application of the solar cells changed to become generation of residential electricity in urban areas where the electricity is already supplied by the conventional grid. This paper covers the current market and technology status of the solar cells and future prospect of their terrestrial applications. Reviewing market trend, this paper discusses high efficiency approach in silicon solar cells, low cost approach in silicon solar cells and finally covers future prospects of silicon solar cells.
