  • In this paper, we propose a new filtered-x least mean fouth (LMF) algorithm where the error raised to the power of four is minimized and analyze its convergence behavior or a multiple sinusoidal acoustic noise and Gaussian measurement noise. Application of the filtered-x LMF adaptive filter to active noise cancellation (ANC) requires estimating of the transfer characteristic of the acoustic path between the ouput and error signal of the adaptive canceller. The results of the convergence analysis of the filtered-x LMF algorithm indicates that the effects of the parameter estimation inaccuracy on the convergence behavior of the algorithm are characterized by two distinct component . Phase estimation error and estimated again. In particular , the convergence is shown to be strongly affected by the accuracy of the phase response estimate. Also, we newly show that convergence behavior can differ depending on the relative sizes of the Gaussian measurement noise and convergence constant.

  • Human factors still plays a significant role in railway accidents. The accidents often resulted from multiple causes of hardware failures and human errors. So to ensure the safety of railway operations, human error should be effectively prevented and managed. Among several factors influencing human performance, task load (or task complexity) is well known as a major contributor to human error. In order to reduce the potential of human error, a systematic analysis should be undertaken to evaluate task load and to reduce it by modifying task process and/or education&training. In this paper, we proposed a systematic framework for railway industry to perform task analysis and to evaluate task load, and applied it to KTX operational tasks. According to the application study, we identified 14 generic task types of KTX operation. And also this paper shows the quantitative task load of those generic tasks which were analyzed by NASA-TLX method.

  • THERP (Technique for Human Error Rate Prediction) methodology has been widely used for probabilistic safety assessments. The NUREG report involving this methodology is also called the HRA handbook. The THERP assumes that all actions involved in implementing a task are considered as components. In this paper human error rates associated with maintenance are evaluated by the THERP methodology. A gas governor system is used as an example which is also a risky system like nuclear power plants. It is also demonstrated that this approach is flexible in that it can be applied to any operator actions related to test and maintenance.

  • This paper considers the problem of regulating the output voltage of a current doubler rectified asymmetric half-bridge (CDRAHB) DC/DC converter via fuzzy integral control. First, we model the dynamic characteristics of the CDRAHB converter with the state-space averaging method, and after introducing an additional integral state of the output regulation error, we obtain the Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy model for the augmented system. Second, the concept of parallel distributed compensation is applied to the design of the TS fuzzy integral controller, in which the state feedback gains are obtained by solving the linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, numerical simulations of the considered design method are compared to those of the conventional method, in which a compensated error amplifier is designed for the stability of the feedback control loop.

  • In this paper, an appropriate modulation method was implemented as their results presented in details and verified by the simulations. The data compensation method at momentary high noise occurrence by using retransmission request techniques that uses error checking was discussed. Finally, application of other modulation method by detection of error rate per bit according to variation of channel error caused by electric equipment that is connected to power line was studied.

  • For measurement of tylosin, ammonia nitrogen, and glucose concentration during the culture of Streptomyces fradiae using Near Infrared Spectroscopy, the calibration using various mathematical models was performed and then, based on the linear model, the validation was carried out. In the case of sucrose concentration using the MLR method, the Standard Error of Prediction and Multiple correlation coefficient were 1.97, and 0.991, respectively. In the case of ammonia nitrogen concentration using the PLSR method, the Standard Error of Prediction and Multiple correlation coefficient were 0.13, and 0.990, respectively. In the case of tylosin concentration using the PLSR method, the standard Error of Prediction and Multiple correlation coefficient were 0.54, and 0.984, respectively.

  • In this paper, a tentative Kth order Goldschmidt floating point number Nth root algorithm for K order convergence rate in one iteration is proposed by applying Taylor series to the Goldschmidt square root algorithm. Using the proposed algorithm, Nth root and Nth inverse root can be computed from iterative multiplications without division. It also predicts the error of the algorithm iteration. It iterates until the predicted error becomes smaller than the specified value. Since the proposed algorithm only performs the multiplications until the error gets smaller than a given value, it can be used to improve the performance of a floating point number Nth root unit.

  • Roller compacted concrete(RCC) has been attracted due to its growing application to pavement concrete construction. In this study optimum mixing formation of RCC was explored and characterized its properties forcusing on reducing try and error for actual application to construction of pavement. The concrete used for roller compacted concrete pavement (RCCP) has very low water content per unit volume, so that it develops early high strength. This high early strength development makes pavement constructed open early. This concrete also showed very reduced crack formed on the surface because of expensive cement.

  • The present situation of CWE(Computational Wind Engineering) and the papers presented to the CWE 2000 Symposium are reviewed from the following viewpoints; 1) topics treated, 2) utilization of commercial code (software), 3) incompleteness of CWE, 4) remaining research subjects, 5) prediction accuracy, 6) new fields of CWE application, etc. Firstly, new tendencies within CWE applications are indicated. Next, the over-attention being given to the application field and the lack of attention to fundamental problems, including prediction error analysis, are pointed out. Lastly, the future trends of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) applications to wind engineering design are discussed.
