  • This paper suggests a DCS (Distributed Control System) model for steam temperature system of the thermal power plant. The model calculated within sectional range is linear. In order to calculate mathematical models, the system is partitioned into two or three sectors according to its thermal conditions, that is, saturated water/steam and superheating state. It is divided into three sections; water supply, steam generation and steam heating loop. The steam heating loop is called 'superheater' or steam temperature system. Water spray supply is the control input. A first order linear model is extracted. For linear approach, sectional linearization is achieved. Modeling methodology is a decomposition-synthetic technique. Superheater is composed of several tube-blocks. For this block, linear input-output model is to be calculated. Each tiny model has its transfer function. By expanding these block models to total system, synthetic DCS linear models are derived. Control instrument include/exclude models are also considered. The resultant models include thermal combustion conditions, and applicable to practical plant engineering field.

  • A rapid and sensitive assay for the specific detection of plant viroids using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) has been developed already. The nested RT-PCR assay cloud be applied for the detection of apple scar skin viroid(ASSVd) from young leaves and other tissues. ASSVd has central conserved region(CCR), terminal left(T$\sub$L/) and terminal right(T$\sub$R/) domain. Primers were designed from these regions. Primer sets were successfully applicable for the amplification of full length or partial region of ASSVd by nested RT-PCR. Nested RT-PCR assay was more sensitive and accurate method to detect ASSVd from young trees during the early time of apple cultivation.

  • This paper describes a new method of stability evaluation for an estimated impulse response of a plant. It is difficult for the conventional stability evaluation equation to be used in an adaptive feedforward control system which uses an immeasurable acoustic transfer system of a real plant, because the equation requires an exact true impulse response of the plant. Therefore, the usefulness of the conventional equation is limited in a computer simulation. The proposed method is applicable to not only a computer simulation but also a real feedforward adaptive control system. It is found that the system is stable when the value of misadjustment is below -10 dB through computer simulations and experiments. And also, it is proved that the error signal is stable through the verification using filtered reference and filtered error LMS methods.

  • Higher plants provide valuable genetic assay systems for screening and monitoring environmental pollutants. They are now recognized as excellent indicators of mutagenic effects of environmental chemicals and are applicable for the detection of environmental mutagens both indoor and outdoor. 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is a herbicide commonly used in agriculture. The residues of 2,4-D are present in air, water, soil and edible plants. It constitutes a real hazard to the public health because it's wide spread use in agriculture. Genotoxic effects of 2,4-D on plant cells and potential of higher plants as a biomonitoring system for detecting chemical mutagens are evaluated. It is recommended that higher plant systems have been accepted by regulatory authorities as an alternative biomonitoring system for the detection of possible genetic damage resulting from pollution and the use of environmental chemicals.

  • For the water quality improvement in the ocean outfall area of sewage treatment plant, this study tried to control the water quality of outfall area using the biofilter method through seaweeds, a way of ecological engineering treatment that is applicable in the marine ecosystem. Therefore, this research made an attempt the main factors necessary for creating seaweed bed to improve water quality in the outfall area of sewage treatment plant, and the results are as follows. In the case of making the seaweed bed in the ocean outfall area of sewage treatment plant, Habitat Suitability Index of Ecklonia cava per all survey points, considered physical and physico-chemical factors in 5~10 meters below sea level, was 50~93% (average 80%), so this seaweed, Ecklonia cava, was suitable for making the seaweed bed.

  • This paper presents a dynamic reliability assessment methodology for use in the safety assessment of a complex system such as a nuclear power plant. The method is applied to a dynamic analysis of the potential accident sequences that may occur during mid-loop operation in a nuclear power plant. The idea behind this approach consists of both the use of the concept of the performance achievement/requirement correlation and of a dynamic event tree generation method. The assessment of the system reliability depends on the determination of both the required performance distribution and the achieved performance distribution. The quantified correlation between requirement and achievement represents a comparison between two competing variables. It is demonstrated that this method is easily applicable and flexible in that it can be applied to any kind of dynamic reliability problem.

  • The method has been proposed for the risk assessment of petro-chemical plant, specially which can evaluate relative risk levels on the materials and process-es. The each potential risk of materials and processes are derived numerically and combined these values, finally Fire and Explosion Index was found. Material factor was evaluated with the flammability and the reactivity and process factor with emprical factor called penalty. This F&EI can be performed for relative risk assesment at the whole plant and directely applicable at the line.

  • In this paper, we propose a system architecture of the AMI to be applied in the modern agricultural sector. Agricultural electricity costs in South Korea is very inexpensive compared with other industries. It is expected to increase oil prices to rise over the medium to long term so the facilities must to be installed for farmers in terms of energy savings and energy costs. The research and development of plant factory which can replace the ills of modern agriculture is very active. The technologies of smart grid and plat factory are good paradigm of next generation agricultural sector. Good use of smart grid technologies, the traditional energy consumption industries, agriculture sector can be self-sufficiency industry. In this article the AMI architecture is developed and it will be applicable for modern farmers plant factory.

  • Copper(II) acetate spectrophotometry method (CASM) was used for the rapid and convenient determination of cation exchange capacity (CEC) in soils. This method is composed of a single-step exchange reaction that adsorbs copper and is measured through spectrophotometry. The CEC of 16 Korean soils were measured using 1M ammonium acetate method (AAM) and the CASM. The CEC values determined by CASM and AAM were not significantly different, and were highly correlated ($r=0.966^{**}$). Due to the convenience, cost effectiveness, and time saving analysis of CASM, this method is recommended for most soil laboratories to measure CEC in Korean soils. However, CASM may not be applicable for soils that have a much higher CEC (greater than $20cmol_c\;kg^{-1}$).

  • There have been several nuclear accidents at home and abroad so far, and there have been major and small damages. Overseas, in order to reduce such accidents, the safety and reliability of nuclear power plant operations have been improved by introducing a technology called Configuration Management. Through basic information on Configuration Management and successful cases of introducing Configuration Management from overseas nuclear power plants, this paper checks the technical parts applicable to Korea and examines whether they can be newly applied by supplementing them for domestic nuclear power plants.
