A Series Feeding Cross-Aperture Coupled Microstrip Antenna for Improving Axial Ratio Bandwidth of Circular Polarization (원형편파의 축비 대역폭 개선을 위한 직렬 급전 십자개구 결합 마이크로스트립 안테나)

  • In this paper, a novel series feeding cross-aperture coupled microstrip antenna with the effect of hybrid feeding is proposed and demonstrated experimentally to improve narrow axial ratio bandwidth of cross-aperture coupled antenna with single feeding among the various methods for generating circular polarization. The validity of a proposed series feeding cross-aperture coupled microstrip antenna is shown by comparing experimental results between the reported and the proposed microstrip antenna, and 2${\times}$2 array microstrip antenna based on the proposed single microstrip antenna used sequential rotation technique to accomplish broader axial ratio bandwidth. In the proposed single and 2${\times}$2 array microstrip antenna, the measured axial ratio bandwidths are 110 ㎒(4.6%) and 420 ㎒(17.5%), maximum gains are 8.2 ㏈i and 12.5 ㏈i, 3 dB gain bandwidths are above 400 ㎒(16.7%), and impedance bandwidths for the VSWR<1.5 are 240 ㎒(10%) and 500 ㎒(20.8%), respectively.

  • In this paper, dual-polarized 2${\times}$2 array antenna is designed and fabricated for the polarization diversity applications in wireless LAN system. For the improved bandwidth and isolation characteristics, the aperture coupled feeding and the L-shaped probe feeding are employed for each polarization. The measured bandwidths of the fabricated antenna are 210MHz for aperture coupled feeding and 280MHz for L-shaped probe feeding. The isolation for two ports is -40dB and the antenna gain is measured as 14.3${\pm}$0.2dBi in the operating frequency band of wireless LAN.

  • In this paper, we propose DLP(Dual Linear Polarization) antenna with aperture coupled feeding structure for private network. The proposed antenna has general aperture coupled structure and design two port between top and bottom layer to obtain the enhanced isolation. Also, The size of each substrate(top and bottom layer) is 34.0 mm(W)×34.0 mm(L), which is designed on the FR-4 substrate which thickness (h) is 1.0 mm, and the dielectric constant is 4.4. Also, the size of patch antenna is 12.70 mm(W2)×14.60 mm(L3), and it is located on the top layer. The size of feeding line is 24.0 mm(W2)×1.6 mm(L3), and is located at the bottom layer Also, rectangular slot is located on the ground plane between top layer and bottom layer. From the fabrication and measurement results, bandwidths of 300 MHz (4.52 to 4.82 GHz) for feeding port 1, and 170 MHz (4.65 to 4.82 GHz) for feeding port 2 are obtained on the basis of -10 dB return loss and transmission coefficient S21 is got under the -30 dB.   • A S / X dual broad band patch antenna with shared aperture structure is fabricated. A $2{\times}2$ perforated patch is used for S-band operation and a $2{\times}2$ patch antenna array is integrated in the $2{\times}2$ perforation for X-band operation. The measurement results of a S / X dual broad band patch antenna with shared aperture structure show the broad band characteristics larger than 20 % in both bands.

  • An inductive loaded microstrip patch antenna using aperture coupled feeding is designed and an impedance bandwidth enhancement method using a shunt stub is investigated. The -10 dB impedance bandwidth of the AIMPA with a shunt stub is increased up to about 5.51 %. The impedance bandwidth of the corresponding AIMPA without a shunt stub is 2.4 %. The increase of the impedance bandwidth of the AIMPA with a shunt stub is about 129.6 % compared to that of the corresponding AIMPA without a shunt stub.

  • This paper presents the design and fabrication of a shaped-beam array antenna which will be used for a PCS basestation using structure that is coupled to a microstrip line by an aperture on the interening ground plane. The shaped-beam pattern is obtained by an antenna synthesis method. An array antenna considering the mutual coupling between array elements patches) and a feeding network are designed by CAD tools. The feeding network is designed by using the Wilkinson power divider to obtain the optimized shaped-beam. The designed results are compared with the measured data.

  • An impedance bandwidth enhancement method of an aperture coupled microstrip patch antenna (ACMPA) using a shunt stub is investigated. The conventional ACMPA with a H-shaped coupling aperture is designed and the electrical parameters for the equivalent circuit of the designed conventional ACMPA are extracted. A method for the enhancement of the impedance bandwidth of the ACMPA using a tuning stub connected in shunt with the feed line is presented. The -10 dB return loss impedance bandwidth of the ACMPA with a shunt stub is increased up to about 14 %. The maximum impedance bandwidth of the corresponding ACMPA without a shunt stub is 5.4 %. The increase of the impedance bandwidth of the ACMPA with a shunt stub compared to that of the corresponding ACMPA without a shunt stub is about 160 %.

  • In this paper, the design of a dual-polarization rectangular microstrip patch antenna with high isolation between two feeding ports excited by using both an aperture-coupled feed (port 1) and a 3-dimensional microstrip feed (port 2) is presented. From the simulation using the commercial program IE3D, the optimum values of the antenna parameters are investigated at both two feed structures and the optimum antenna is designed and fabricated. Experimental results confirmed that an bandwidth of the antenna is about 17 % and the isolation of two ports is great than 30 dB over all frequency bands.

  • In this paper, the miniaturization of aperture-coupled RHCP patch antenna for the GPS system is treated. Circularly polarization characteristics is implemented by truncating diagonal corners of the square patch. Antenna size is reduced by inserting four uniform slits at the patch edges, which was equivalently lengthened the surface current by meandering it, This antenna uses aperture-coupled feeding structure with crossed-slot shape in order to give easy miniaturization of RHCP patch antenna. Simulated and measured results show that $42.7\%$ lower antenna size is obtained, and also $56\%$ lower -10dB bandwidth and $38.5\%$ lower 3dB AR bandwidth are obtained. when the proposed design scheme is applied to a commercial GPS antenna structure, $42.9\%$ lower patch size and $56\%$ lower 3dB AR bandwidth compared to commercial antenna at the same frequency are obtained.
