  • The Anyang stream is one of the Han river in Seoul Metropolitan area. It is 35.1km long, has a basin area of $282.26km^2$ and touches seven cities of Kyounggido and some of Seoul Metropolitan area. The situations of Anyang stream have resulted in severe stream water pollution problems. The purpose of this study were to measure the hydraulic characteristics and water quality, to make the countermeasures to achieve the stream water quality, to suggest the future conditions to improve water quality trough the Hydrodynamic and Water Quality Modal(WASP4). As the result of Anyang stream water quality forecsat, they are follows. Sewerage systems in the watershed of the Anyang stream have to be amended for wrong systemn and constructed in the upstream area of Anyang. The discharge of industrial wastewater has to be throughly controlled from the upstream area of the Anyang stream. Hydrodynamic and Water Quality Model(WASP4) for this study revealed the future water quality of the Anyang stream by computer simulation.

  • In this study, the water quality investigated during 2002s to 2004s for Anyang river and its affluent that was based on biological and chemical methods as well as ecological index of each streams. The improving of water quality and the multiplicity of specious in the most streams except for Anyang, which was due to the improving of water quality and water resource. The seasonal dry states are completely disappeared, but water quality of Anyang main stream was classified as fifth grades water with BIP 8.51~10.00 and BOD 8.16~14.4mg/l in Anyang stream overall. And alpha-mesosaprobic in upper, mid parts and polysaprobic in down parts of Anyang main stream are appeared according to Saprobien system, respectively. The water supply of treated sewage is appeared that upgrading effects of water quality in Anyang main stream and affluents of Anyang city area, but the practical effects of "Saving Anyang River" could not gained because the water quality of other branches in upstream parts than upstream measuring point of Anyang main stream, Wanggok stream Sanbon stream in Gunpo and Eeiwang cities, was not improved.

  • Anyang Stream including its main branch is the biggest branch stream of Han River in Korea. The geological and geomorphological characteristics were investigated to the affected area of Anyang Stream, in which rainfall characteristic was analyzed. The water quality surveyed that the analysis of water pollution used to biotic index and biological water pollution. The rainfall pattern in this area was like to that of typical Korea, but the rate of trigger and runoff during summer season(June~August) is more higher than mean of Korea. Before 2003, a dried stream is severe status, which was due to abundant runoff, but this status are improved. After 1997, water quality of stream is recovering status such as water pollution of stream steeply decreased. Especially after 2003, this trend is more quickly improved. Although, owing to the increasing of a T-N and SS at upstream wastewater were due to bad collection of industrial factories, livestock's and mans living, the water quality worsted at upstream. Water quality in total section of main stream was severely contaminated that water-quality limit is 5 with polysaprobic by water self-purification. That of main branch was 1~3limits with ${\alpha}$- and ${\beta}$-mesosaprobic in Anyang city area, But water quality in all area about another branch of Anyang stream except Anyang city area was almost under of 3 grades. Though trying of Anyang city for recover movement(completion of 2nd Sewage Treatment Plant and Water supply pipe system) on Anyang stream, water pollution states of upper branch in Anyang stream was not better than its of 2002 because it may be difference of control area on other cities.

  • Anyang Stream Restoration Movement was started from 2001 for the construction of ecological city. The facilities for reuse of treated sewerage have been used since 2003 for improvement of water quality, maintenance of water quantity, river ecological restoration, and hydrophilic space. Thus, the Anyang city has been gradually transformed to eco-friendly city after the construction of Anyang stream and Hakui stream as natural rivers. In this study, biological and chemical methods as well as ecological indicators for Anyang mainstream and major tributaries were monitored for four years in between 2008 and 2012. The water quality and the diversity of species in most of the streams were found to be good except Anyang main stream. It appears that the influence of seasonal drying stream is almost disappeared except Sammak stream. Thus, the values for BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) and BIP (Biological Index of Pollution) for Anyang main stream were found to be 5.27~3.42mg/l and 4.51~5.50, respectively. This is considered to be caused by the reused water quality of treated wastewater being exceeded the design criteria or by the non-point source of contaminants around the stream. However, entire section of tributaries shows I, II grade as a good water quality.

  • Community structure of benthic macroinvertebrates in the water system of Anyang Stream was analyzed from August, 2002 to April, 2003. Species number of benthic macroinvertebrates was 78 species, 33 families, 11 orders, 5 classes in 3 phyla. They were collected 49 species at 1st survey, 51 species at End survey and 53 species at 3rd survey, respectively. Species numbers at each tributary were 43 species at the Wanggok Stream, 44 species at the Mokgam Stream, 33 species at the Ohjeon Stream and 26 species at the Hakeu Stream, while it was only 9 species at the Dangjeong Stream. Species number of the main course of Anyang Stream was 24 species. Dominant species of benthic macroinvertebrates at the Wanggok, Ohjeon and Hakeu Stream were Baetis fuscatus, Alainites muticus, Physa acuta and chironominae sp. They were mainly intermediate and tolerant species. Dominant species and subdominant species of the Dangjeong Stream were Limnodrilus socialis, Psychoda KUa and Telmatoscopus KUa as indicator species for severe sewage pollution. Dominant species at Geumjeong-dong and KUa bridge in the main course of Anyang Stream were Physa acuta, Limodrilus gotoi, Chironominae sp., Species diversity indices at the Mokgam Stream were $high(3.53\~4.28\;range)$ and those of the Hakeu, Wanggok and Ohjeon Stream were some what high$(2.00\~3.13\;and\;2.34\~3.10\;range)$. But, species diversity indices in the Dangjeon Stream were low$(1.36\~1.70\;range)$ too. and those of the main course of Anyang Stream were low$(0.86\~1.79\;range)$ too. Species richness indices in the Wanggok and Mokgam Stream were very high$(3.55\~4.02\;and\;2.96\~5.31\;range)$ and those of Geumjeong-dong and Kia bridge in the main course of Anyang Stream were low$(0.89\~1.98\;range)$. Stream bed and riparian bank of middle reach in the Wanggok Stream were good condition and water was clean. The Mokgam Stream had various microhabitats, good water weed area, hetero geneous substrates and etc.. And, stream bed in the Hakeu Stream was in good condition. So, above streams should be continuously in good ecological condition and useful area for citizens.

  • In the estimation of pollution load in water basin, a data information has generally used from surveyed data. A Geographic Information System(GIS) was adopted to evaluate the amount of pollution load in Anyang stream basin which is one of the major tributaries in the Han river flows through urban area. The digital maps of administrative boundary, stream network, sub-basin, soil type, and land-use for spatial data as well as attribute data were generated. And the database of sub-basins and pollution source was structured to estimate pollution load in Anyang stream basin by an Arc/Info GIS.As the results of this investigation, the pollution load of Mokgam-chun sub-basin was the highest amount. And that of Hagi-chun sub-basin and the fourth main stream sub-basin were also high amount in Anyang stream basin. In general, it was found that the pollution load generated from the upstream area in Kyunggi province was higher than that from downstream area in Seoul. Because the point and non-point source pollution load played very significant role in the deterioration of the water quality of the Anyang stream, an integrated approach to water quality management should be required for the sub-basins of high pollution load amount.

  • In order to analysis of the water pollution of the Anyang stream(one of the biggest branch streams of the Han River) and its main tributaries, the geological and topographical and rainfall features in its basin were investigated. To do this, the water samples were collected 23 points of the upper, mid and down of Anyang stream and its tributaries and were analyzed based on the chemical methods, Korean Biotic Index(KBI) and Saprobien systems. The Anyang stream basin has a characteristic of topographical torrential heavy rainfall like a typical rainfall feature in Korea. The concentration and the outflow rate of rainfall is very different in seasonal, and water pollution in dry season is especially severe. After 1997, although the water quality status of stream has been improved gradually, the concentration of T-N and SS at the upstream is increased due to the deficiency of facility used for collecting wastewater released from industrial factories, livestock farms and residential areas. The mainstream of the Anyang stream is classified into the 5th grade water as polysaprobic water area according to Saprobien system and the biotic index is over 2.5 in overall. Most of tributaries have 1~3 grade water limit with ${\alpha}$- and ${\beta}$-mesosaprobic except the upper and mid streams of Samsung tributary, in which pollution status is the lowest part. Though Sambong tributary is ${\alpha}$-mesosaproboic, biotic index is low because of the appearance of abundant benthos animals in farming and fishing villages.

  • The objective of this planning proposal is to rehabilitate the urban stream which has been ecologically disturbed in the urban process. The experimental stream, Su-am stream located in Anyang City is typical urban stream in adjacent land use and the spatial condition. The stream in the watershed context, is the second tributary of Han River, in the Anyangcheon watershed. The Characteristics of the stream reach were analyzed by the river corridor survey. In the conceptual phase, Rehabilitation Programs were established based on the hydrological, ecological and spatial characteristics of the stream. Spatial zoning concept according to the characteristics of the stream and adjacent land use, was suggested 4 types of zoning; ecological preservation zone, natural landscape zone, neighborhood water-friendly zone and CBD water-friendly zone. Implementation Practices can be summarized as follow: For The longitudinal river continuum, some In-stream practices were suggested and implemented; such as channel alignment, step & pool, pool & riffle and low-flow channel bank. For latitudinal continuum and intimate spatial relationship between Sam-duk Park & Su-am stream, gentle sloped bank was planned and implemented. After stream improvement & ecological Implementation, follow-up monitoring and adaptive management programs will be a meaningful process for ecological rehabilitation.

  • The Anyang river drains a highly polluted industrial area and enters the lower part of Han river. In this preliminary study for the comprehensive understanding of geochemical behaviour of elements in the stream sediments and its implications on the river chemistry and ecology, major and trace elements in stream sediments, suspended solids and stream water were analysed to look into elemental enrichments and elemental behaviour with distance from upper part of the stream. Chemical analyses of the stream sediments show enrichements of heavy metals including Cr, Zn, Ni, Co between 10 to 100 times. Other trace elements, Cd, Pb and As are also enriched between several to 10 times, based on relative ratio with Al in fresh rock. Chemical analyses of the sediments, suspended solids and water show indications of anthroporgenic impact for the heavy metal accumulation. It was nortworth Hg is detected between 2 and 4 ppb in the water.

  • In order to investigate the pollution of heavy metal in soil, chinese cabbage and radish collected from Singal interchange (highway area), Anyang stream, Jungryang stream (stream basin) and Chunchun dong, Suweon (non-polluted area), this study was carried out from July to October in 1983. The contents of cadmium, copper, lead, and zinc were determined by atomic absorption spectrqphotometry. Generally in soil, the contents of heavy metals in highway area were lower than that in Anyang stream and Jungryang stream, but higher than that in non-polluted area. (Chunchun dong, Suweon). The vegetable samples of highway area were more polluted compared with that of Chunchun dong, Suweon. The contents of heavy metals in radish were higher than that of chinese cabbage and radish leaves were more polluted than roots.
