  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationship among dietary behavior, meal balance, and clinical symptoms related nutritional status and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD) in preschool children. The survey was conducted using questionnaires and the subjects were 3~6 years old preschool children in Samcheok. Subjects were divided into an ADHD dispositions group(n=88) and a normal group(n=129) based on assessments conducted by the children's mother using the Abbreviated Conners's Parent Rating Scale. There was no significant difference in meal frequency, meal speed, meal regularity or meal balance between children with ADHD dispositions and the normal groups. The ADHD disposition group had a higher proportion of children with picky eating(p<0.05), too much snacking(p<0.05) and over eating (p=0.05) habits than the normal group. In addition, the ADHD dispositions group had a higher frequency of clinical symptoms such as 'breathlessness when going up stairs', 'sleeplessness', 'anxiety' and 'tiredness'. Overall, there was a significant relationship between ADHD disposition and dietary problems and clinical symptoms related to poor nutritional status in preschool children. Therefore, to prevent and treat ADHD in preschool children, proper dietary management such as correcting of picky eating, over snacking and overeating is needed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate smoking history and quality of life in the patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Method: Data were collected from 157 men who quit smoking or attempted to quit smoking. Quality of life was measured with the SCQoL(smoking cessation quality of life) scale which was developed by Olufade et al. (19?19), and includes 5 factors; social interactions, cognitive functioning, self control, anxiety, and sleep. Result: The patients usually smoking in their twenties (61.8%), continued to smoke for over 30 years (70.7%), and smoked 20-29 cigarettes a day (50.3%). The total mean scores for the SCQoL was $50.48{\pm}7.11$. Of the 5 factors, self control had the highest mean score ($17.00{\pm}3.79$). Patients who began smoking in their twenties had a higher SCQoL. However, there were no significantly differences in the SCQoL according to duration of smoking or amount of smoking per day. Conclusion: Age when smoking is begun is an important variable to explain SCQoL in patients with CAD. But, further study is needed to identify the influence of other variables such as duration and amount of smoking.

  • Objectives: The study aimed to determine the prevalence of and the relationship between stress and musculoskeletal symptoms among undergraduate students. Methods: The convenience sampling method was used for this cross-sectional survey that was conducted from June 16, 2014 to June 21, 2014. A total of 223 subjects (88 men, 135 women) participated in the study and completed a comprehensive self-administered questionnaire requesting information on demographics, medical history, lifestyle, and musculoskeletal symptoms. The Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS) was also administered to the subjects. A total of 223 subjects from 12 universities completed the questionnaires; the data obtained was used for the final statistical analysis. Results: Women had a higher prevalence of stress and musculoskeletal symptoms. Adjusting for sex and age, subjects who were stressed had a 2.85-fold higher risk of musculoskeletal symptoms than subjects who were not stressed. Stratified analyses by sex also showed that women had a higher risk of musculoskeletal symptoms (Modified OR 2.98, 95% CI 1.38-6.45). Conclusions: We found a positive association between stress and musculoskeletal symptoms in undergraduate students; sex differences were present. Further dose-response relationship between stress and musculoskeletal symptoms will be identified by a longitudinal study with a larger sample size.

  • Background: This research was planned with the aim of determining the effect of symptom frequency of children with cancer on the quality of life of their parents. Materials and Methods: In gathering the research data, the Child and Parent Information Form, the Symptom Evaluation Form and the Family Version of Life Quality Scale in Cancer Patients were used. Evaluation was made by using percentage calculations, Kruskal Wallis test, Bonferroni adjusted t-test and Bonferroni adjusted Mann-Whitney U test. The significance level was accepted as 0.005. Results: Some 37.6% of the participant children were female and 62.4% were male, with an average age of $10.2{\pm}4.5$. While 41.0% were newly diagnosed, 46.2% were in remission and 12.8% was in relapse. Highly significant differences were detected according to the symptom frequency with parent physical and psychological health, social anxiety, and spiritual wellness sub-dimensions, as well as total point averages. Conclusions: It is thought that following up the symptoms that might develop depending on cancer diagnosis and treatment and implementing nursing initiatives aimed at reducing the symptoms, knowing the importance of life quality, maintaining measures aimed at life quality and planning initiatives to increase the life quality will play a key role in maintaining and developing the health of Turkish paediatric oncology patients and their parents.

  • Cyberbullying, i.e., posting malicious comments online, has been identified as a critical issue in the online and social media context. It has become prevalent on a global scale, which happens across all ages. As a way to reduce and prevent cyberbullying, it is important to promote online prosocial behavior. In line with the concept of online prosocial behavior, we suggest posting benevolent comments against posting malicious comments as a new type of online prosocial behavior, which can combat cyberbullying and facilitate positive online culture. This study thus aims to analyze what motivates people to post benevolent comments in the online context. Based on interview methods, we extracted seven driving factors (self-presentation, pleasure, social contribution, emotional support, reputation, monetary reward, and reciprocity) and two inhibiting factors (social anxiety and effort) of posting benevolent comments online. This study has its theoretical contribution in exploring the motivation factors leading to the posting of benevolent comments by extending the concept of online prosocial behavior. It also has its practical implications by providing guidance for promoting prosocial behavior in the online context.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the physical and mental health status of disaster victims according to disaster types, such as a typhoon disaster and an oil spill disaster, and to suggest adequate health care services for them. Methods: A total of 484 people who suffered disasters were selected for this study, and data were collected from July to August, 2008. The data-set for this study included 286 victims of typhoon disasters in Jeju and Jeollanamdo district in South Korea, and 198 victims of the oil spill disaster in Taean. Physical health status was measured using revised Patient Health Questionnaire and mental health status was measured using the Korean version of 'Post-traumatic Diagnostic Scale'. Results: According to the comparative analyses of typhoon disaster victims and oil spill disaster victims, poorer physical health outcomes were shown among the oil spill disaster victims when compared to the typhoon disaster victims. Also, the oil spill disaster victims showed symptoms of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder, at rates higher than those found among the typhoon disaster victims. Conclusions: These findings suggest that there is a need to provide adequate physical and mental health-related care services for oil spill disaster victims. The seriousness of oil spill disaster should be realized and reconsidered in developing recovery strategies and disaster preparedness for physical and mental health services.
