  • The clamp, as the structure which is used for supporting the pipe in the atomic power plant, is produced with a certain degree of anticlastic curvature in the current manufacturing process. In this study, the structural analysis of the clamp and the pipe was performed using ABAQUS. And the finite element modelling for the analysis was made by an HyperMesh. The contact forces which are transferred between the clamp and the pipe for the external force are changed according to the binding force of bolts and keeps the clamp tightly and protects the slipping between the clamp and the pipe. The clamps with the anticlastic curvature and with the flat curvature are considered in order to invest the anticlastic effect. In this study, another case is suggested. The present case does not have the stiffness ring on the end of the clamp but the suggested case has the ring. For the present case, the results showed that the equivalent stress is higher in the anticlastic curvature case than in the flat curvature case and the equivalent stresses on the pipe are almost the same as the binding force increses. For the suggested case, the result showed that the equivalent stress in the anticlastic curvature case decreases until some binding force and increases as the binding forces increase and is lower in some range than in the flat curvature case. From this study, the clamp with the anticlastic curvature in the suggested method is better than the clamp with the flat curvature and the optimal binding force are given.

  • For the analysis of leveling process by the 3-dimensional elastic-plastic finite element method, a finite element analysis program modeling large deformation of shell has been developed. This program fur analyzing large deformation of sheet during leveling includes spring-back analysis as well as efficient contact treatment between sheet and rolls of leveler. This is verified by the simple leveling experiment with 5 rolls at laboratory. Besides the leveling examples, problems within the category of large strain and rotation, such as 3-dimensional roll-up and gutter occurrence at continuous bending-unbending process are also tested for verification of the program. The residual curvatures of strip predicted by finite element analysis are within 20% error range of the experiment. The formation and direction of anticlastic curvature or gutter during bending-unbending under tension is predicted and this agrees with the experimental results.

  • Auxetic material is a material which has negative Poisson's ratio(NPR). Auxetic material shows some distinctive property like high energy absorbing property and high shear modulus. Among these, synclastic curvature is very interesting characteristic. When synclastic-curvature-material bends, it changes its shape like dome, contrary to non-auxetic material which changes its shape like saddle(anticlastic). This distinctive property could make it easy to manufacture curved structure like nose cone or wing panel in aerospace engineering. In this study, we studied a quantitative analysis about synclastic curvature of re-entrant panel with finite element model. We suggested a concept 'Degree of Synclasticity(DOS)', which means a ratio of curvature of load-direction and load-orthogonal direction. We studied the variation of DOS with two factor, unit cell inner angle(${\theta}$) and load position angle(${\phi}$). DOS decreases as ${\theta}$ increases because the unit cell goes out of auxetic-shape. As ${\phi}$ varies, DOS changes in a large range. So proper optimization of ${\phi}$ would be needed for application.

  • The purpose of this study is to apply the partial-size die forming process to actual segment head farming process of semi-ellipsoidal heads and to verify the availability of the suggested forming method. The initial curvature for the preliminary forming process was determined through anticlastic behavior of plate bending and the partial-size die for final forming was designed based on the results of springback analysis using F.EA. From the results of actual forming, it was concluded that die design was appropriate and proposed forming process would be successfully applied to actual forming jobs.

  • The purposes of this study are predictions of the changes in the section geometry and determination of the initial cross section so that opposite side in height direction is exactly parallel after coiling process. Finite element analysis is carried out for the calculation of the sectional changes for mold spring item. Analysis results reveal that the slope of the top and bottom sides varies in the range of 5 to 8 degrees and the amount depends on the dimension of the outer diameter. The slopes of the sides should be defined first among design variables.

  • This paper presents an inverse design methodology for the cross section geometry of mold spring with a rectangular cross section as the starting material for a coiling process. The cross-sections of mold springs are universally rectangular, as the parallel sides minimize the possibility of failure under high service loads. Pre-coiled wires are initially designed to have a trapezoidal cross section, which becomes a rectangle by the coiling process. This study demonstrates a numerical exercise to predict changes in the sectional geometry in spring manufacture and to obtain the initial cross section which becomes the exact rectangle desired from the manufacturing process. Finite element analysis was carried out to calculate the sectional changes for various mold springs. Geometrical parameters were the widths at inner and outer radii, the inner and the outer corner radii, and the height. A partial least square regression analysis was carried out to find the main contributing factors for deciding initial design values. The height and the width mainly affected various initial parameters. The initial width at the inner radius was mostly affected by various specification parameters.
