Effects of a naturally derived surfactant on hydrate anti-agglomeration using micromechanical force measurement

  • The performance of a hydrate anti-agglomerant (AA) on cyclopentane (CyC5) hydrate anti-agglomeration at various concentrations (0-1 wt%, based on the oil phase) using MMF apparatus has been investigated. At low AA concentrations up to 0.01 wt%, the AA reduces the cohesion force (capillary force) by reducing the CyC5-water interfacial tension. At concentrations higher than 0.1 wt%, hydrate hydrophobicity alternation and AA's thermodynamic inhibition effects are the main part of AA's mechanism. Additionally, a "temporary agglomeration" phenomenon caused by surface melting of the hydrate particles is also observed, which may indicate the AA's weak ability to produce stable water-CyC5 interface.

  • 세계적으로 환경오염이 심각해짐에 따라 친환경적으로 에너지를 생산하는 기술이 주목받고 있다. 그 중에서도 태양광을 이용하여 전력을 생산하는 태양광 태양전지의 경우 원리가 간단하고 에너지원의 수급이 용이하다는 장점으로 인하여 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 그러나 태양광 태양전지의 경우, 태양전지 기판에서의 반사로 인하여 발전 효율이 낮아는 문제점이 있다. 이를 해결하기 위해 텍스처링 공정을 통해 태양전지 기판에서의 반사를 줄이고 태양전지의 효율을 증가시키는 방법이 이용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 나노 돌기를 가진 저반사 패턴을 이용하여 태양전지용 실리콘 기판을 제작함으로써, 태양전지 기판에서의 반사를 줄이고자 하였다. 나노 돌기를 가진 저반사 패턴이 형성 된 태양전지용 실리콘 기판을 제작하기 위해 ICP 장비를 이용한 $Cl_2$ 플라즈마 식각공정을 진행하였다. 먼저 Au agglomeration 기술을 이용하여 Au nano particle을 실리콘 기판 위에 형성 후, 이를 식각 마스크로 이용하여 ICP 식각을 진행하였다. 이어서 나노 돌기가 형성 된 실리콘 기판 위에 $Cl_2$ 플라즈마에 내식각성이 우수한 레지스트를 이용하여, 나노 임프린트 리소그래피 기술을 통해 저반사 패턴을 형성하였다. 이 방법으로 형성 된 저반사 패턴을 식각 마스크로 사용하여 앞의 공정과 동일한 조건으로 실리콘 기판을 식각하였다. 최종적으로 agglomerated Au particle과 $Cl_2$ 플라즈마에 내식각성이 우수한 레지스트를 이용하여 나노 돌기를 가진 저반사 패턴이 형성된 실리콘 기판을 제작하였다.

Antimicrobial Activity of Specific IgY against Salmonella gallinarum (Salmonella gallinarum에 대한 specific IgY의 항균력)

  • In this study, we investigated the antimicrobial effects of anti-Salmonella gallinarum-specific IgY separated from egg yolk obtained from layers immunized by S. gallinarum. The comparison tests of vaccination, content of IgY and innoculation number were examined by microscopic observation, turbidity, and pH. The results show that the ratio of anti-S. gallinarum IgY in the total IgY was 23%. Also, the anti-S. gallinarum IgY had selectivity only to S, gallinarum. The 0.3% addition of anti-S. gallinarum-specific IgY resulted in agglutinating clusters of S, gallinarum cells, but the agglomeration didn#t occur in IgY from layers not immunized nor in the control group. Microscopic observation indicated agglomerative cells when IgY was added at 0.2% or higher, and the pH and turbidity examinations revealed that a suppression effect was remarkable in IgY at more than 0.1%. These results suggest the possibility that IgY extracted from eggs and obtained from layers immunized by S. gallinarum can be used to prevent fowl typhoid.

FABRICATION OF AGAR-SILICA AEROGEL NANOCOMPOSITE FILMS

  • In this study, agar-based nanocomposite films containing ultra-porous silica aerogel particles were fabricated by gel casting using an aqueous agar/silica aerogel slurry. The silica aerogel particles did not show significant agglomeration and were homogeneously distributed in the agar matrix. Transmission electron microscopy observations demonstrated that the silica aerogel particles had a mesoporous microstructure and their pores were not incorporated into the agar polymer molecules. The thermal conductivities of the agar and agar/5 wt.% silica aerogel nanocomposite films were 0.36 and 0.20 W·m-1·K-1, respectively. The transmittance of the agar films did not decrease upon the addition of silica aerogel particles into them. This can be attributed to the anti-reflection effect of silica aerogel particles.

  • Anti-reflection film was coated by using spherical silica nano colloidal particles and fumed silica particles. Silica colloid sol was reserved between two inclined slide glasses by capillary force, and particles were stacked to form a film onto the substrate as the upper glass was sliding. The deposition processes were studied to enhance the wavelength dependency of the light transmittance and to control the effective refractive index of the film. Both of the spherical and fumed silica particles showed an enhancement of $4.0-4.4\%$ in light transmittance by one step coating. The dependence of the transmittance on wavelength was largely improved at the longer wavelength by partial coating of fumed particles on the film of spherical particles. The effective refractive index of the film was controlled by removing latex particles that were co-deposited with silica particles. Using this process the light reflectance from one side of the glass substrate could be reduced from $4.2\%$ to $0.6\%$ although zero reflectance was not achieved due to the agglomeration of the latex particles.
