The purpose of this study was to compare the body measurements of cyclists and non-cyclists and to classify cyclists' body types to offer basic information for the bicycle apparel manufacturer in Korea. The anthropometric data was collected including both direct and indirect measurements of 81 cyclists (40 female, 41 male) aged from 19 to 24. Anthropometric measurements were analyzed using percentiles, T-test, factor and cluster analysis. The results were as follows; Comparison of anthropomeoic data between cyclist and non-cyclist was to clarify that cyclists have bigger size than non-cyclists; especially the thigh circumference shows big differences. As the result of factor analysis, 5 factors, which explain 74% of variance, were extracted from all items for male and female cyclists. The results of cluster analysis classified body types into 3 groups. Cluster 1 among three female cyclist groups has biggest torso and had an erect back. Cluster 2 has small size among three female group and drooping shoulders. Cluster 3 has the bended forward shoulders and shows the protrusion back. In case of male cyclists, cluster 1 has thin body type owing to big height measurements and small girth measurements. Cluster 2 among three male groups has the biggest torso and thigh circumference. Cluster 3 has big forward angle of shoulders and shows the protrusion of the back as female cyclist.
This study provides abasis for the development of high functional cycle wear with clothing comfort and fitness for highschool boy cyclists by a comparison of the somatotype of highschool boys cyclists and general highschool boys. This study directly measured 44 anthropometric targeted cyclists across Korea. "The sixth national standard physical survey" data targeted 16 to 18-year-old male adolescents; subsequently, anthropometric measurement data was provided by 766 people for research. Highschool boy cyclists used t-test to compare the differences in body type. The results in this study are follows. Highschool boys cyclists(compared to regular highschool boys) indicated a great somatotype stature and weight. The differences in the cervical height and the acromion height results of, cyclist appeared smaller. Cyclists angle of shoulder was smaller. The upper body of highschool boys cyclist was greater than the difference between chest breadth and bust breadth with along biacromion length. The waist front length of the cyclist was a short cycle ride upon the attitude of the streamlined. Highschool boy cyclists indicated that the muscles of the arm portion was more developed compared to general highschool boys. The lower body had less abdominal fat with a significantly developed thigh and calf.
Today the number of the disabled people with a spinal cord injury is increasing by the acquired factor. The purpose of the study is to furnish basic data for the study of satisfactory clothing construction data by considering the physical variation by the time passed the since the injury. Also the study includes the actual measuring of the disabled men with spinal cord injuries which is compared with the data of the 5th national anthropometric survey of Korea and makes it possible to grasp the distinguished physical feature of the disabled men with the spinal cord injury. As a result, first, the measured data are smaller than those of the 5th national anthropometric survey of Korea in the items of height and length of the upper half of the body related to stature. Second, the measured data are bigger than those of the 5th national anthropometric survey of Korea in the items of breadth, depth and circumference of the upper half of the body related to the exercise. Third, there are differences in the items of depth of the lower half of the body, breadth and circumference in the analysis of the time passed since the injury.
Most designers of equipment, or of a workplace layout, frequently choose 5 percentile female and 95 percentile male dimensions as design limits. If the design is not an one-dimensional problem, it is difficult to choose '5 percentile female' or '95 percentile male'. Hence it is important to consider the interactions or relationships between body dimensions. This paper deals with correlation analysis, factor analysis and partial correlation analysis using data above age 20 from the national anthropometric survey in Korea, 1986. Besides, a model which represent the extremes of body size of Korean has been developed in this paper.
This paper measured the range of arm joint motion for Korean 54 males in twenties. The range of the arm joint motion of the subjects was measured directly using Goniometer and protractor. The number of the static and the dynamic anthropometric variables are seven and thirteen, respectively. The anthropometric data are analyzed by basic statistical analysis (four group), correlation analysis and regression analysis using commercial SAS program. The results of analysis are compared with American students anthropometric data by Laubach(1978). Thin subjects have larger movement angle as wrist flexion, wrist abduction, elbow flexion, and elbow wupination and have smaller as wrist adduction and shoulder flexion. Fat subjects have larger movement angle as shoulder flexion and are smaller wrist abduction, elbow flexion, pronation, shoulder extension, shoulder adduction, shoulder abduction, and shoulder medial rotation Korean are more flexible than American in wrist and ranges of elbow flexion and elbow rotation. The shoulder movement is similar to that of American, but shoulder flexion is less flexible.
Objectives To investigate correlation between anthropometric data (neck circumference (NC), waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI), and body shape indexes) and radiological parameters of lumbosacrum. Methods The data of college students living in Seoul (n=24) were analyzed retrospectively. Anthropometric data of NC, WC, and BMI were measured. Lumbar spine X-ray film was taken to measure lumbar lordotic angle, Ferguson's angle. To evaluate body shape of participants, three indexes of neck-to-waist ratio (NWR), neck-to-height ratio (NHR), and waist-to-height ratio (WHR) were used. Anthropometric data's correlations with radiological parameters of lumbosacrum were investigated. Results Anthropometric data of NC, WC, and BMI had no significant correlation with radiological parameters of lumbosacrum. NWR had significant positive correlation with lumbar lordotic angle and Ferguson's angle. NHR and WHR had no significant correlation with radiological parameters of lumbosacrum. Conclusions The results suggest that NWR-related fat distribution in neck has significant correlation with radiological parameters of lumbosacrum regardless of obesity.
This study was conducted to investigate the dietary intake, anthropometric data, and association between two factors and main food sources contributing macronutrients for overweight and obese females. Subjects were 85 adult females (overweight : 28, obese 57) where mean age was 38.7y. The results are summarized as follows. Mean fat percent, BMI, obesity rate were 29.3, 23.9 and 15.1%, respectively for overweight women and 32.7, 28.3, 36.4%, respectively for obese women. There were significant differences for most of the anthropometric data between groups. Fat percent for all subjects was significantly correlated with weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, mid arm circumference or skinfold thickness for the triceps, subscapular and suprailiac (p < 0.001). The parameter which showed the highest correlation coefficient (r=0.6156) with fat Percentage was the waist to hip ratio. Any significant differences were not found in dietary intake of nutrients or in diet composition between groups. The mean energy intake was 2090.1kcal (104% of RDA) for overweight women and 2113.0kcal (106% of RDA) for obese women. PFC ratio for overweight was 17 : 24 : 59 and 18 : 23 : 58 for obese subjects, which can be regarded as higher fat and lower carbohydrate percentages compared to recommended PFC ratio (15 20 65) .4) Fat intake was positively correlated (r : 0.2301, p < 0.05) with the triceps skinfold thickness, protein intake was also positively correlated with waist circumference (r=0.2668, p < 0.05) or fat weight(r: 0.2406, p < 0.05) .5) The main food items that contributed to energy intake for overweight or obese subjects were similar (rice, pork, bread, grapes, barley) except com oil in overweight or instant noodle for obese group. The subjects in this study were taking less energy from rice and more energy from pork and bread than women from 98 National Health and Nutrition Survey. Because there were no significant differences of dietary data between overweight and obese group, further investigation considering basal metabolic rate or activity would be needed.
In this study, anthropometric and biochemical indicators and related factors for community dwelling elderly living alone (ELA). as well as for elderly not living alone (ENLA) were explored. The subjects were 140 elderly females (70 living alone, 70 not living alone) residing in Bucheon. Anthropometric measurements revealed significant differences between the two groups (ELA/ENLA) for height, weight, BMI, triceps skinfold thickness, suprailiac skinfold thickness, subscapular skinfold thickness, and body fat percentage. The ELA showed significantly lower data for most of the anthropometric indices, except PIBW. Biochemical indicators of iron status (hemoglobin, serum iron, transferrin saturation) were significantly lower for the ELA, whereas the total serum cholesterol, LDL-C, LDL-C/HDL-C, for the ELA were significantly higher. The prevalence of hypercholesterolemia (240 mg%) was 30%. The latter three are not in accordance with general malnutrition among the ELA. The hemoglobin of the ELA was positively correlated with energy, fat, iron and cholesterol intake, but negatively correlated with height. The serum cholesterol of the ELA was Positively associated with most of their nutrient intake.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation coefficients between anthropometric parameters of the foot and kinetic variables during running. Method: This study was conducted on 21 healthy young adults (age: $24.8{\pm}2.1yes$, height: $177.2{\pm}5.8cm$, body mass: $73.3{\pm}7.3kg$, foot length: $256.5{\pm}12.3mm$) with normal foot type and heel strike running. To measure the anthropometric parameters, radiographs were taken on the frontal and sagittal planes, and determined the length and width of each segment and the navicular height. Barefoot running was performed at a preferred velocity ($3.0{\pm}0.2m/s$) and a fixed velocity (4.0 m/s) on treadmill (Bertec, USA) in order to measure the kinetic variables. The vertical impact peak force, the vertical active peak force, the braking peak force, the propulsion peak force, the vertical force at mid-stance (vertical ground reaction when the foot is fully landed in mid-stance or at the point where the weight was uniformly distributed on the foot) and the impact loading rate were calculated. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to investigate the relationship between anthropometric variables and kinetical variables. The significance level was set to ${\alpha}=.05$. Results: At the preferred velocity running, the runner with longer forefoot had lower active force (r=-.448, p=.041) than the runner with short forefoot. At the fixed velocity, as the navicular height increases, the vertical force at full landing moment increases (r= .671, p= .001) and as the rearfoot length increases, the impact loading rate decreases (r=- .469, p= .032). Conclusion: There was a statistically significant difference in the length of fore-foot and rearfoot, and navicular height. Therefore it was conclude that anthropometric properties need to be considered in the foot study. It was expected that the relationship between anthropometric parameters and kinetical variables of foot during running can be used as scientific criteria and data in various fields including performance, injury and equipment development.
To design the cockpit of Korean helicopter, anthropometric data for Korean helicopter pilots as a target population is necessary. The present study measured the body sizes of Korean helicopter pilots to design the cockpit of Korean helicopter, and compared the measurements with those of Korean civilian and the US Army. The sample size was 100 which determined by a statistical analysis. Anthropometric measurements were collected for 100 samples (male = 94, female = 6; age group = 20~40) of Korean helicopter pilots by applying standard measurement protocol. To compare three anthropometric data, Korean civilian and US Army data were controlled by considering age group (20~40) and gender ratio (male: female = 9:1) of Korean helicopter pilots. The average body sizes of Korean helicopter pilots were mostly similar to those of Korean civilian, however, lower limb related variables (hip breadth, popliteal height and thigh clearance) and shoulder-to-elbow length were significantly greater (1~7%) at α=0.05. Furthermore, the average body sizes for Korean helicopter pilots regarding lower limb length and thickness were significantly smaller than those of the US Army (1~12%); however, the average body sizes for Korean helicopter pilots regarding upper body related variables (sitting height, sitting eye height, and acromial height) and hip breadth were significantly greater (0.7~1.9%). Lastly, size variability for Korean helicopter pilots was significantly smaller than those of Korean civilian and the US Army. Anthropometric data for Korean helicopter pilots of the present study was applied to design and evaluate a Korean helicopter cockpit.
