  • Korea Sounding Rocket(KSR)-III onboard telemetry system has acquired various data from subsystems and sensors in the rocket, and radiated PCM/FM data using two S-band antennas during the flight. Simultaneously, it is necessary that the ground receiving systems track the rocket, and receive and decode telemetry data. Also post processed telemetry data are needed to be broadcasted on ethernet network in real time. Range safety display system displays flight trajectory using telemetry data in mission control center, and so flight manager makes a decision for flight termination from the trajectory This paper describes operating technique about telemetry reception, the development for the realtime data processing system, and the results for telemetering reception on fight test. We telemetered, processed, and broadcasted numerous telemetry data during the flight test successfully.

  • North Korea has various ballistic missiles from short range to long range such as inter continental ballistic missiles. Short range ballistic missiles such as SCUD series are threatening to Korea peninsula. Therefore Korea is constructing various missile defense systems to protect country. Parameters influencing the received power from the target to the radar are transmitting power, antenna gain, carrier frequency, RCS(Radar Cross Section) of target and distance from radar to target. Especially, RCS and distance from target are not radar performance defined parameters but external parameters. Therefore radar deployment position that large RCS can be observed and target to radar distance should be considered in parallel to improve target detection probability. In this paper, RCS pattern of SCUD-B ballistic missile is calculated, received power is analyzed based on radar deployment position during ballistic missile trajectory and methode for optimum radar deployment position to improve target detection probability is suggested.

  • At center frequency of 11.85 GHz, wideband left-handed circularly polarized microstrip array antenna is designed with the method of sequential ratation based on $2\times2$ radiation elements($0^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, $135^{\circ}$ phase delay). Its return loss, axial ratio bandwidth, radration pattern, and gain are compared with those adopting sequential rotation based on $1\times2$ radiation elements($0^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, $180^{\circ}$, $270^{\circ}$phase delay). The $8\times8$ array is manufactured and measured. The results show that 10 dB return loss bandwidth is 10.51~12.74GHz(18.82%) which is 1.57 times wider than the case using $1\times2$ sequential rotation method, 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth is 11.43~12.5 GHz(9.03%) which is 1.25 times as wide as that using $1\times2$ sequential rotation method and the antennal gain is 25.4 dB. The results of mesurements are almost similar to those of simulation.

  • In this paper, we derive the achievable degrees of freedom (DoF) for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Z-interference channels (Z-IC) with reconfigurable antennas at the receivers, assuming that channel state information is not available at the transmitters. We propose a new linear scheme to align interfering signals and to decode desired signals through the designed preset mode switching pattern of reconfigurable antennas at the receivers. The key idea of our scheme is to use interfering signals as a side information at the interfered receiver by being silent at the corresponding transmitter during some time slots. Consequently, it is shown that the reconfigurable antennas at the receivers can bring a DoF gain if the number of preset modes is greater than the number of RF chains at the receivers.

  • In this paper, a study on optimization of three dimensional multi-layered metallic disk array structure(MDAS) excited by circular waveguides was performed to shape efficient flat-topped element patterns(FTEP) of ${\pm}$20$^{\circ}$ beam width. Each radiating element of the MDAS is composed of input, transition and radiation circular waveguides and finite metal disks stacked on radiation circular waveguide. It has an array structure of a hexagonal lattice appropriate for the conical beam scanning. The analytic algorithm for the MDAS was proposed and the code was also programmed using it. Optimal design parameters of the MDAS were determined through the optimal simulation process to obtain ${\pm}$20$^{\circ}$ FTEP. Also, bandwidth characteristics for FTEP and reflection coefficients of the MDAS were investigated and, as the results, it was shown that the MDAS could shape good FTEPs of ${\pm}$20$^{\circ}$ beam width in main planes at least within a 5.6 % frequency band.

  • An orthogonal code hopping multiplexing (OCHM) technique has been proposed for accommodating a large number of users with low channel activities than the number of orthogonal codewords through statistical multiplexing in downlink cellular systems. In this paper, a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna based OCHM system is proposed to improve the performance. Each modulated symbol is repeated N times and the N repeated symbols are transmitted simultaneously using N transmit antennas. Through repetitions, the effect of perforations that the OCHM system experiences is decentralized among the repeated symbols and the full perforation probability is significantly reduced. Each receiver detect the transmitted signal using its pre-assigned code hopping pattern. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme saves the required energy for a given frame error rate (FER).

  • The recent adoption of Bluetooth LE technology in smart phones triggered commercial interest in RSSI-based positioning technology. Estimation error in RSSI measurement due to the antenna pattern, multipath fading, environmental noise has to be considered for designing beacon systems. The paper proposes an analysis method and beacon planning rules for a small and isolated indoor service area, based on probabilistic model of RSSI estimation error. As an practically important guide, the beacons have to be installed at the boundary of the service area to minimize the maximum position error, whereas the beacons have to be evenly distributed in the service space to minimize the average estimation error.

  • We propose the row method that is able to consider the SAR compliance test from the very beginning step of developing the mobile phone. The reason this new method is plausible is that we adopt the certified FDTD for the reliability of calculation, utilizing 1 mm high resolution model that is to model the phantom and the mobile phone almost identically to the reality. In this paper we introduce the process that will apply the proposed method in order to reduce the SAR of the mobile phone that has been problematic in satisfying the SAR compliance test. It results in dropping in the SAR that we keep the mobile phone or its antenna while we use it. Therefore here we make a claim as fellows. When we develop the new mobile phone, we should use the computer simulation combining the CAD design and radiation pattern rather than make a prototype and then use the trial and error method. Moreover the former way leads us to boost up the developing efficiency and reduce the cost.

  • Measurement of deflections of certain bridges is usually hampered by corruption of the GPS signal by multipath associated with passing vehicles, resulting to unrealistically large apparent displacements. Field data from the Gorgopotamos train bridge in Greece and systematic experiments revealed that such bias is due to superimposition of two major effects, (i) changes in the geometry of satellites because of partial masking of certain satellites by the passing vehicles (this effect can be faced with solutions excluding satellites that get temporarily blocked by passing vehicles) and (ii) dynamic multipath caused from reflection of satellite signals on the passing trains, a high frequency multipath effect, different from the static multipath. Dynamic multipath seems to have rather irregular amplitude, depending on the geometry of measured satellites, but a typical pattern, mainly consisting of a baseline offset, wide base peaks correlating with the sequence of main reflective surfaces of the vehicles passing next to the antenna. In cases of limited corruption of GPS signal by dynamic multipath, corresponding to scale distortion of the short-period component of the GPS waveforms, we propose an algorithm which permits to reconstruct the waveform of bridge deflections using a weak fusion of GPS and RTS data, based on the complementary characteristics of the two instruments. By application of the proposed algorithm we managed to extract semi-static and dynamic displacements and oscillation frequencies of a historical railway bridge under train loading by using noisy GPS and RTS recordings. The combination of GPS and RTS is possible because these two sensors can be fully collocated and have complementary characteristics, with RTS and GPS focusing on the long- and short-period characteristics of the displacement, respectively.

  • The purpose of this paper is to present the damage patterns of cellular phone (SCH_W830) batteries according to energy sources and have them utilized as data for the settlement of disputes between manufactures and consumers. The reliability was secured by maintaining the ambient temperature and humidity at $22{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ and 40~60 %, respectively. The voltage of the battery used for the tests was measured to be 4.18V between positive pole (+) and negative pole (-)(1), and 4.19 V between positive pole (+) and negative pole (-)(2). This study applied the Korean Industrial Standard (KS) to the flammability test of cellular phones due to a general flame applied to them and found that no damage occurred to the built-in battery even though the flame was applied to the cases of cellular phones for 30 seconds. From the results of immersing the cellular phones in the saline solution (NaCl, 0.9 %) for 180 seconds, it was found that there was a trace of carbonization and melting due to the heat caused by leaking current. It can be seen that when the cellular phones were heated for 70 seconds using a microwave oven (MWO), the areas containing the metal holder, recharging connector, antenna, etc., were melted and discolored and that other areas showed no particular problems. That is, while the external carbonization of cellular phones, built-in metals and dielectric materials, and damage and deformation of the battery terminal block, etc., occurred differently depending on the types of energy sources, the voltage showed comparatively constant characteristics. Therefore, it is thought to be possible to attribute the cause of damage to the battery by performing analysis taking into consideration comprehensively the characteristics of the flame spread pattern as well as the melting and deformation of metals.
