In this paper, DOA(direction of arrival) of multiple incident signals received from linear array antenna and circular array antenna, which is based on nonparametric estimation algorithm, and adaptive beam-forming algorithm are studied and analyzed. In nonparametric estimation algorithm, we minimize a regularized objective function for finding a estimate of the signal energy as a function of angle, using nonquadratic norm which leads to supper resolution and noise suppression. And then, DOA is estimated by the signal and noise spatial steering vector, and adaptive beam-forming pattern is improved by weight vectors obtained from the spatial vector. Especially, the discrimination ability of DOA and the adaptive beam-forming ability according to antenna array methods and the number of array elements are compared and considered.

The radiation characteristics of leaky antenna from the dielectric-coated conducting cylinder with periodic corrugation are investigated theoretically for the infinite and finite periodic structures. For the infinite periodic structure, mode-matching method is applied. The integral equation is derived for the finite periodic structure by use of the Fourier transform and mode expansion and a simultaneous linear equation is obtained. The influences of the corrugation slot width, corrugation depth, dielectric thickness, cylinder radius, and finite corrugation number on the radiation characteristics (leakage constant, phase constant, and radiation pattern) are investigated. The results of the finite periodic corrugations are compared with those of the infinite extent structure and good agreement is found. To reduce high side lobe levels of the uniform finite periodic structure, tapering process on the beginning and end section of antenna and nonuniform quasi-period slot arrays are considered. Especially, for the corrugation period, width and depth used for a corrugated surface wave antenna, through the proper tapering process, end-fire radiation pattern with reduced side lobe levels is given.

In this paper, a rectangular loop array antenna for beam scanning is designed. A program using RWG MoM(Rao Wilton Glisson Method of Moment) is developed for SEP(Scan Element Pattern) theoretically. Simulation results obtained by using a commercial software tool, MWS are compared with the MoM results to confirm the validity of the program. Also these results are compared with the measured ones for the case of an $8{\times}5$ subarray. The fabricated $8{\times}5$ subarray showed a flat gain characteristic in the elevation scan range of ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ in the E-plane.

Effect of a finite square substrate plane on the radiation characteristics of a microstrip patch antenna is investigated. Effect of a finite square substrate plane on the resonance frequency and bandwidth is very small, while that on the radiation pattern is very large. The gain of front radiation and the direction of the maximum gain vary almost periodically with the length of a square substrate plane. The length of a square substrate plane for the maximum gam and the minimum gain of front radiation decrease as the electrical thickness of a substrate increases. The variation of the gain of front radiation with the length of a square substrate plane increases as the electrical thickness of a substrate increases. The variation of the radiation pattern with the length of a square substrate plane is almost determined by the electrical thickness of a substrate.

In this paper, a new approach to the optimum synthesis of line source difference patterns is proposed for the monopulse tracking way antennas. In the Proposed scheme, which is different from the well-known Bayliss difference pattern synthesis, the difference patterns with the desired individual sidelobe levels are optimally synthesized by appropriately modifying the Taylor line source sum pattern formula. That is, the relationship between the difference pattern and the corresponding source distribution function is analytically established, and then the desired pattern and the distribution are simultaneously extracted by the optimum perturbation of pattern null positions. Furthermore this method provides more rapid sidelobe decay rates than conventional methods. Some numerical results show the validity and usefulness of the proposed procedures.

In this paper, the small loop antenna with a parasitic loop structure for penta-band mobile phone application is proposed. This antenna is composed of a feed monopole, a radiating loop antenna with a parasitic loop structure and an additional radiating element. The antenna is printed on the very thin flexible substrate to mount on the dielectric carrier with a volume of 40 mm$\times$11 mm$\times$3 mm. The bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 402 MHz(773~1,175 MHz) for low band and 583 MHz(1,622~2,205 MHz) for high band. As a result, the proposed antenna covers the five bands of GSM850, GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1,900 and WCDMA for a 3:1 VSWR. Moreover, the radiation pattern, gain and efficiency are appropriate for mobile handset. Therefore, this antenna is suitable for small sized multi-band mobile handset applications.

This paper suggests a test and evaluation procedure of conformal load-bearing antenna structure(CLAS) for high speed military jet application. A log periodic patch type antenna was designed for multi-band communication and navigation antenna. Carbon/Glass fiber reinforced polymer was used as a structure supporting aerodynamic loads and honeycomb layer was used to improve antenna performance. Multi-layers were stacked and cured in a hot temperature oven. Gain, VSWR and polarization pattern of CLAS were measured using anechoic chamber within 0.15~2.0 GHz frequency range. Tension, shear, fatigue and impact load test were performed to evaluate structural strength of CLAS. Antenna performance test after every structural strength test was conducted to check the effect of structural test to antenna performance. After the application of new test and evaluation procedure to validate a new CLAS, a design improvement was found.

In this paper, we proposed a U-shaped broadband RFID tag antenna with a parasitic element operating at UHF band. The proposed tag antenna consists of a U-shaped half wavelength dipole antenna and an inverse U-shaped parasitic element inside the U-shaped dipole antenna. In order to have good impedance matching, the commercial tag chip is attached to the lower center of the rectangular shaped feed. On the condition of VSWR<2, the tag antenna had the measured bandwidth of 4.96 % from 882 to 927 MHz and showed the gain deviation of less than 3.16 dB. On the condition of VSWR<5.8, the tag antenna satisfies the worldwide UHF RFID bandwidth and is showed the gain deviation of less than 5.07 dB. The minimum gain deviation characteristic appears near the center of bandwidth which minimizes variation of gain deviation characteristic with respect to the frequency.

In this paper, the antenna for parking management using wireless communication in outdoor parking environment was proposed. The proposed antenna was miniaturized by using parasitic element to reduce the size of the radiating element of the basic ${\lambda}/2$ microstrip antenna. The dimensions of the proposed antenna are $35mm{\times}35mm{\times}20.1mm$ that is 98.7% smaller than $309.1mm(0.46{\lambda}){\times}296.1mm(0.441{\lambda}){\times}20.1mm(0.029{\lambda})$ of the basic ${\lambda}/2$ microstrip antenna. The electrical characteristics of the antenna are 1.1 dBi at the center frequency of 447 MHz, an omni-directional radiation pattern on the E-plane, and $87.5^{\circ}$ of HPBW on the H-plane. The miniaturized ${\lambda}/4$ folded microstrip antenna using parasitic element has proved to be easy to mount on the wireless repeater, the sensor node installed on the ground, and the strop bar in the outdoor parking environment.

This paper presents an X-band (9.375 GHz) $1{\times}2$ array microstrip antenna which is capable of active beam compensation for installation of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). First of all, a basic $1{\times}2$ array microstrip antenna incorporated with wilkinson power divider was designed and performance of the array antenna was verified. Next, to verify beam steering performance of the designed array microstrip antenna, we fabricated a phase shifter, and the wilkinson power divider as module structure and measured characteristics of beam steering according to phase shifting. The main lobe is 0.6 dBi at $0^{\circ}$, and the side lobe decreased 18.8 dB. The reliable radiation pattern was achieved. Finally, an active beam steering microstrip array antenna attached with the phase shifter and the power divider on the back side of the antenna was designed and fabricated to install wing of UAV for compactness. The maximum gain is 0.1 dBi. Therefore, we obtained a basic antenna technology for compensating beam error according to wing deformation of an UAV installed array antennas.
