  • This paper presents capacity characteristics of the indoor LOS(Line-Of-Sight) propagation channel for MIMO system at 5GHz. The distance between antenna elements, their moving path, and number of transmitting and receiving antennas can be determined by wanted eigen-vlaue, and channel capacity of the MIMO communication channel using only reliable simulation without measurements. The simulation uses 3D Ray tracing and patch scattering model to which electromagnetic material constants are applied. As distance between antenna elements increases, distribution of the eigen-value show a tendency to decrease, but channel capacity increases in LOS environment. However, despite of short distance between antenna elements, large value of channel capacity is obtained in positions which have high AS. When the position of receiver antennas are shifted, channel capacity hardly changed, and as number of antenna elements increases, channel capacity also increases regularly.

  • Antenna PIM(Passive Intermodulation) level measurement results are rarely credited due to the external signal receiving characteristics of antenna, and seriously affected by the external PIM sources such as anechoic chamber absorber and antenna tower. In this paper, antenna PIM model for the Reflect PIM measurement method is presented. Through the null point phenomena of the PIM level obtained by antenna PIM model simulations and experimental results, we concluded that antenna PIM level measurements are greatly affected by the PIM level generated on the anechoic chamber absorber and the path differences of PIM signal reflected to the antenna.

  • A new fractal geometry of the traveling wave type cross antenna is newly presented. In the conventional type of the traveling wave antenna, the electrical length of the radiating conductor increases as the order of fractal expansion increases. But, increased length of the current path degrades the performance of the antenna from the various loss mechanism of the traveling wave type antenna. To reduce the antenna performance degradation, the new hybrid fractal antenna, which divides the entire fractal structure into some smaller ones and connects each smaller fractal group with a power divider is presented. The secondly, thirdly and fourthly expanded hybrid fractal cross antennas are fabricated and their performances are examined by measurements. Influences of the fractal order to the antenna performance are examined.

  • In this paper, a vehicle antenna for AM, FM, TDMB, GPS systems was designed and implemented. AM antenna loaded into small space of shark shape was designed by ferrite turn style antenna. For the FM and TDMB antenna, folded monopole antenna which helical is folded was applied. GPS antenna for achieving characteristics both bandwidth and gain improvement was designed microstrip patch that has air substrate and fractal structure. Receiving signal strengths by the measurement were presented for the AM, FM and TDMB antenna. AM signal strength was -65.7dBm, this strength is almost as same conventional pole antenna as -63.4dBm. It can be replaced conventional pole or glass antenna by the studied antenna. Signal strengths for FM and TDMB were -55.66 and -43.50dBm at center frequency, they are 5~10dB higher than conventional antenna. Measurements of bandwidth and gain for the GPS antenna showed 135 MHz under VSWR 2 : 1 and 4.31dBi, gains over GPS band were 3~5dB higher than ceramic patch antenna.

  • In this paper, to achieve a broad-band and high-gain antenna, we thus designed and analyzed the CRLPDA(Corner Reflector Antenna feeding by Log-Periodic Dipole Antenna) made up of 90$^{\circ}$corner reflector, which is trough-reflector type installed a planar reflector at the folded line. CRLPDA for operating frequency band of 1,400 MHB ~ 2,400 MHz was designed and radiation characteristics of the designed antenna were analyzed by moment method. To verify the analysis results, CRLPDA was fabricated and the calculated results were compared with the measured results. The measured results showed good agreement with the calculated results. As the result of measurements, bandwidth(VSWR>2) for 1,000 MHz was achieved and gain was 13 dBi.

  • In this paper, the propagating-wave attenuation characteristics at 1, 3, and 6 GHz in the open environment roadway where the ground-reflected wave dominates are analyzed through a propagation model simulation using a ray-tracing method and propagation measurements. Simulations has been performed by varying the ground material, the transmitting antenna height, and the receiving antenna height. The measurements were conducted using a directional transmission antenna installed at 10 m mast and a omnidirectional receiving antenna installed at 1.5 m mast in an open environment. Comparison of simulation and measurement results confirms that the null points having the weak signal strength depend on those parameters. Although this research has been investigated for the wide road, the derived result could be useful for installing the transmitter and receiver in the roadway open environment.

  • We implemented a subminiature internal antenna that is around 1 cc volume for the mobile phone. The fundamental type of studied antenna is IFA(Inverted F Antenna), and this antenna is designed to be improved efficiency and gain due to minimum current cancellation by the avoidance of multiple bending pattern. For the implementation of multiple band, helix is applied to compensate for short antenna length for low frequency band, and a 3 dimensional pattern is used for high frequency band. We made two kinds of 3D structure antenna. One is a 1 cc volume antenna for GSM/DCS band on the bare board set, and the other is a 1.5 cc volume for the GSM/USPCS mobile phone set. Measurements showed good gain performance that average gain of two antenna on each band are $-3.46{\sim}-0.45\;dBi$ and $-4.80{\sim}-3.29\;dBi$ respectively.

  • We present results of room-temperature characterization of lithographically manufactured antenna-coupled NbN micro-bolometers. The bolometers are assembled together with a hyper-hemispherical Si lens to couple the incident radiation to the bolometer from the back-side of the substrate. The bolometers are designed to operate at 300~1,000 GHz and they are characterized at 321~782 GHz. Radiation patterns are measured at 321 GHz, 400 GHz, 654 GHz, and at 782 GHz. The frequency dependency of the beamwidth is studied with several azimuthal beam profile measurements at 321~500 GHz.

  • We propose a way to measure the absorber reflectivity at a low cost. Only one simple antenna with a small radiating aperture and a frequency-domain instrument are utilized. The previously used equation for calculating the reflectivity of an absorber is inaccurate, and, therefore, a new equation is derived based on multiple reflection analysis and three test models. Notably, the reflection coefficient of the antenna is included in the derived equation. The accuracy of the proposed method is proven through simulation and measurements. It can be easily applied to a product examination by absorber manufacturers and customers owing to its advantages of simplicity, cost effectiveness, and non-cutting examination.

  • An inverted-F antenna for wireless local area network (WLAN) is presented. The proposed design is based on the typical dual-band planar inverted-F antennas (PIFA), which have two tunable resonant modes. The low-profile antenna is built by stamping and designed to be mounted on the metal frame of the laptop LCD panel. The obtained antenna can perform in 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and be adopted for other wireless applications. All the measurements are performed in the actual test fixture.
