  • In this paper, we have proposed the pattern adjustable base station antenna for WCDMA applications. The proposed antenna consists of an omni-antenna(sleeve monopole) and two movable reflectors. The two reflectors can be controlled by mechanically and used to adjust the horizontal pattern of the base station antenna. The antenna was designed, fabricated, and measured. The antenna covers the entire WCDMA band for VSWR<1.4. The measured antenna gain is more than 15 dBi over the operating frequency range. By changing the angle (a) and the distance (d) of the antenna, the pattern adjustment of the proposed base station antenna is found to be possible.

  • TEM Horn antenna is typically used in HPEM area. It is necessary to apply a high voltage of the antenna for radiating HPEM. Then, it is necessary to insulate essentially of applying a high voltage to the antenna. At this time, radiation pattern and gain of the TEM Antenna is changed. For this reason, it is necessary to analyze changing characteristics by using simulation. In this paper, I analyzed the radiation pattern of the antenna in accordance with the lens and insulating material. As a result, it was observed that the value of the gain is changed in accordance with the frequency. The lens is used for the antenna, the gain characteristic is improved.

  • A comparison of the antenna parameters for R-band (1.7-2.6 GHz) and S-band (2.6-3.95 GHz) standard gain horn antennas has been performed by the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), together with seven domestic participants from private companies and public institutions. Its purpose, as a proficiency test program of the 'Antenna Measurement Club' of KRISS, was to check equivalences in antenna parameter measurements between KRISS and the participants, particularly in the R-/S-band, to support antenna manufacturers and end users in Korea. The measurement parameters of this comparison are the power gain, radiation pattern, and reflection coefficient of the traveling standards for R-/S-band pyramidal standard gain horn antennas. The comparison used a gain comparison method and an extrapolation method to measure the power gain of the two traveling standards; the radiation patterns were measured in the far-field region of the transmitting and receiving antennas.

  • This paper presents a novel design of a differential patch antenna for 60-GHz millimeter-wave applications. The design process of the back-to-back (BTB) patch antenna is based on the conventional single-patch antenna. The initial design of the BTB patch antenna (Type-I) has a patch size of 0.66 × 0.98 mm2 and a substrate size of 0.99 × 1.48 mm2. It has a gain of 1.83 dBi and an efficiency of 94.4% with an omni-directional radiation pattern. A 0.4 mm-thick high-resistivity silicon (HRS) is employed for the substrate of the BTB patch antenna. The proposed antenna is further analyzed to investigate the effect of substrate size and resistivity. As the substrate resistivity decreases, the gain and efficiency degrade due to the substrate loss. As the substrate (HRS) size decreases approaching the patch size, the resonant frequency increases with a higher gain and efficiency. The BTB patch antenna has optimal performances when the substrate size matches the patch size on the HRS substrate (Type-II). The antenna is redesigned to have a patch size of 0.81 × 1.18 mm2 on the HRS substrate in the same size. It has an efficiency of 94.9% and a gain of 1.97 dBi at the resonant frequency of 60 GHz with an omni-directional radiation pattern. Compared to the initial design of the BTB patch antenna (Type-I), the optimal BTB patch antenna (Type-II) has a slightly higher efficiency and gain with a considerable reduction in antenna area by 34.8%.

  • The TC&R(Telemetry, Command & Ranging) antennas should have the hemispherical omni antenna patterns to make sure that the communication link between the satellite and the ground station can be established under whatever satellite attitude during after launch to on-orbit mission. The hemispherical omni-antennas are typically placed on the +z axis and -z axis of the satellite to provide the spherical omni patterns. The S-band qaudrifilar helix antennas having RHCP and LHCP hemispherical omni pattern are designed to meet the antenna gain and the axial ratio requirements. To investigate the omni-antenna pattern characteristics depending on four cases of antenna polarization combination placed on the +z axis and -z axis, the antenna pattern of each case is analyzed. Based on the result, after installing the designed RHCP and LHCP S-band omni-antennas on the +z axis and -z axis of the satellite, the combined antenna gain is obtained and finally analyzed in conjunction with the communication link influence.

  • The paper is a phase controlled loop antenna for multi-media devices. We developed a phase control loop pattern arrangement methods for loop antenna in mobile devices like as a cell phone and PCS, WCDMA. In the loop antenna pattern, arrange close adhesive the loop antenna pattern $180^\circ$ cycle in wave length, the radiated electro-magnetic wave from close adhesive loop pattern become to coherent wave than the phase controlled loop antenna has high efficiency and high radiation gain. To acquire a wide band width on phase controlled loop antenna, we arrange a multiple phase controlled loop pattern that has a different length each other. Different length for each other loop pattern cause a different frequency that we can acquire a wide band width for loop antenna from close adhesive phase control. In experiment, we designed a CDMA850 mobile multi-media antenna in 20mm$\times$20mm area thickness 0.4mm, the radiation efficiency is over 60% and radiation gain is over 0dBi.

  • In this paper, we propose a three-element CRPA array with improved low-elevation gain. The proposed antenna consists of a feed patch and a radiating patch, and the feed patch is connected by a coaxial cable. The radiating patch is electromagnetically coupled to the feed patch, which allows to improve the low-elevation gain of the antenna. To demonstrate the suitability of the proposed antenna, the antenna characteristics are measured in a full anechoic chamber. The resulting bore-sight gain is 2.8 dBic with an axial ratio of 2.7 dB, and the average gain at the low-elevation direction of $75^{\circ}$ is -1.4 dBic. The results verify that the proposed antenna is suitable for CRPA arrays with anti-jamming capability.

  • In this paper, six kinds of spiral antenna, a combination of two types of spiral arm-width and three types of spiral curvature are analyzed by using moment method. Dividing spiral arms into N sections, the current distribution is calculated by Galerkin`s method. The radiation pattern and the antenna gain are derived from antenna currents. All os the six spiral antenna have amni-dirctional and wide-band characteristics, although the antenna gain changes within +_ 5dB bound for operating range(600MHz-2GHz). The variation of antenna`s gain is caused by the return loss in connection the Balun to the antenna. Simulation and experimental results on the radiation pattern also show spiral antennas have omni-directional and wide-band characteristics.

  • In this paper, we use the characteristics of electromagnetic waves underwater attenuation for estimating linear distance between a transmitting node and receiving node, and research underwater vertical plane attenuation model for constructing the underwater localization system. The underwater localization of 2 dimensional with the plane attenuation model in the horizontal plane (H-plane) was proposed previous research. But for the 3 dimensional underwater localization, the additional vertical plane (E-plane) model should be considered. Because the horizontal plane of omnidirectional antenna has the same attenuation tendency in x-y plane according to the distance, whereas in vertical plane shows an irregular pattern in x-z plane. For that reason, in the vertical plane environment, the attenuation should be changed by the position and inclination. Hence, in this paper the distance and angle between transmitting and receiving node are defined using spherical coordinate system and derive an antenna gain pattern using half power beam width (HPBW). The HPBW is called a term which defines antenna's performance between isotropic and other antennas. This paper derives omnidirectional antenna's maximum gain and attenuation pattern model and define vertical plane's gain pattern model using HPBW. Finally, experimental verifications for the proposed underwater vertical plane's attenuation model was executed.
