This paper is results of analyzing the characteristics of rainfall triggering landslides and geometry of slopes, caused by the heavy rainfall and antecedent precipitation by Typhoons Ewiniar and Bilis at Chuncheon area in Gangwondo around July in 2006. As results of analyzing the characteristics of rainfall, landslides in 131 sites were found to happen due to the heavy rainfall having the maximum intensity of rainfall in an hour during July 15 and antecedent precipitation during July 12 to 14 causing the ground to be weak by increasing the degree of saturation previously. From results of analyzing the geometrical characteristics of 131 slopes where landslides occurred, the slope width were in the range of 6~10m. The average slope length and angle were 46m and $51.8^{\circ}$, which was relatively steep slope, respectively. Landlises occurred in the elevation of 400 - 500 m with the most probable frequency.

The mount of antecedent 5-day rainfall (P5) is usually used to determine the antecedent soil moisture condition for estimating effective rainfall using the NRCS-CN method. In order to re-establish the threshold of P5 considering basin characteristics, this study investigated the sensitivity of the threshold of P5 to effective rainfall by comparing the corresponding observed direct runoff. The overall results indicate that the direct runoff estimated using the re-establihed threshold of P5 has smaller mean error (RMSE of 27.3 mm) than those using the conventional threshold (RMSE of 35.2 mm). In addition, after evaluating the effectiveness of threshold of P5 using the improvement index, the threshold re-established in this study improved the ability to estimate the direct runoff by 30% on average. This study also suggested to employ regression models using topographic indices to re-establish the threshold for ungauged basins. When using the re-established threshold from the regression model, the RMSE decreased ranging from 0.4 mm to 15.1 mm and the efficiency index of Nash and Sutcliffe increased up to 0.33.
This study was conducted to identify the runoff characteristics of non-point source according to rainfall in Nam watershed. Land-uses of the Nam watershed were surveyed paddy field 4.5%, crop field 6.8%, mountainous 78.7%, urban 2.4%, and etc. 7.7%. Mean runoff coefficients in each area were observed Ⅰ area 0.08, Ⅱ area 0.08, and Ⅲ area 0.05. In the relationship between the rainfall and peak-flow, correlation coefficients(r) were investigated Ⅰ area -0.8609, Ⅱ area 0.6035, and Ⅲ area -0.4913. In the relationship between the antecedent dry period and first flow runoff, correlation coefficients(r) were investigated Ⅰ area -0.9093, Ⅱ area -0.1039, and Ⅲ area -0.7317. The discharge of pollutant concentrations relates to the flow rate of storm-water. In the relationship between the rainfall and watershed loading, exponent values of BOD, COD, SS, and T-N were estimated to 1.2751, 1.2003, 1.3744, and 1.1262, respectively.

The monolithically coupled finite element analysis for a deformable unsaturated soil slope is performed to investigate the effect of antecedent rainfall which is assumed by initial conditions varying degree of saturation (36, 51, 77%) in finite element analysis. The distributions of matric suction and deformation on slope surface obtained from numerical simulation show the instability of antecedent rainfall-induced unsaturated soil slope. Moreover, the numerical analysis using Drucker-Prager model can be checked if a soil slope has reached failure (trial failure criterion $f^{tr}$ >0, plastic behavior) or not (trial failure criterion $f^{tr}$ < 0, elastic behavior). It is found that displacement of slope surface layer increases and the matric suction on soil slope decreases with an increase of initial degree of saturation by antecedent rainfall. Especially, the matric suction of the soil slope in dry condition (S=36%) rapidly decreases rather than that in wet condition (S=51%) at the same rainfall duration. The results of the trial failure criterion ($f^{tr}$ > 0) show slope instability in the toe region and surface of the slopes.
The aim of this study was evaluated the effects of total rainfall, rainfall intensity and antecedent dry days and identify the correlation analysis with the EMC removal efficiency, in order to provide an understanding of the operation and maintenance factors of constructed wetland in flood pumping station. This study was conducted total of 20 monitoring in a catchment(326.2 ha) of constructed wetland in Ga-un flood pumping station located at the downstream of the Wang-suk stream. The determined EMC removal efficiencies were $36.04{\pm}9.45%$ for BOD, $38.50{\pm}13.50%$ for $COD_{Mn}$, $34.34{\pm}13.05%$ for TN and $34.22{\pm}14.27%$ for TP, respectively. These results showed that the pollutants concentration and EMC were reduced while passing through the constructed wetland. In the correlation analysis, the highly correlations with EMC removal efficiency of BOD and $COD_{Mn}$ were observed for total rainfall and rainfall intensity (P<0.05). However, the correlations were not found with TN and TP for rainfall variables.
This paper address the characteristics of loading pollutants caused by the unit agricultural area to establish an efficient management method in NPS (non-point source). The relationship between rainfall and runoff shows good coefficient with 0.92, when the event which shows relatively long antecedent dry days is excepted. The impact of runoff volume on the runoff coefficient can be described by the rainfall intensity strongly. The pollutant EMCs (event mean concentrations) in runoff increased by the increase of antecedent dry days due to dry soil conditions. As the similar pattern of pollutant's loads such as TSS, BOD, COD, TN and TP, it is cleared that other pollutants can be removed when TSS is removed. Therefore the system using only runoff coefficients is not sufficient for the prediction of pollutant loads. It is necessary to consider soil conditions such as rainfall, antecedent dry day, antecedent rainfall etc. for the prediction system.

It is important to estimate accurate effective rainfall to analyse flood flow and long-term runoff for the rational planning, design, and management of water resource. The initial abstraction is also important to estimate effective rainfall. The Soil Conservation Service (SCS) has developed a procedure and it has been most commonly applied to estimate effective rainfall. But the SCS method still has weak points, because of unnatural assumptions such as antecedent moisture conditions and initial abstraction. The coefficient of initial abstraction(K) is depending on the soil moisture condition and antecedent rainfall. The maximum storage capacity of Umax which is calibrated by stream flow data in the proposed watershed was derived from the DAWAST(DAily WAtershed STreamflow) model. The values of K obtained from 69 storm events at the five watersheds are ranging from 0.133 to 0.365 and its mean value is 0.207. Effective rainfall could be estimated more reasonably by introducing new concept of initial abstraction. The equation of $K=0.076Sa^{0.255}$ was recommended instead of 0.2 and it could be applicable to the small-medium rural watersheds.
The monitoring technique based on electrical conductivity (EC) can provide researchers with some advantages in maintenance management and is cost-effective as compared with existing CSOs monitoring. In this study, the flow rate estimation using EC data was executed in two sites where storm overflow chamber had installed. In the result of A-site, R2 of second order multinomial between dilution ratio of EC and observed flow rate was showed the range of 0.68 ~ 0.77. And $R^{2}$ of B-site was 0.62 ~ 0.81. On the other hand, cumulative frequency of A-site was 43.4 ~ 52.2% in the relative error level of under 20%. And B-site was 10.1 ~ 46.5%. The flow rate estimation formula was improved through consideration of some parameters including antecedent dry days and rainfall duration. And difference between estimated flow rate and observed flow rate in total rainfall event was very small.
This paper is results of analyzing characteristics of landslides occurred in Wonju, Gangwondo, around July, 16 in 2006, caused by heavy rainfall and antecedent precipitation by two typhoons of Ewiniar and Bilis. The main causes of landslides were antecedent precipitation during July 8 to 15, resulting in weakening grounds by increasing the degree of saturation previously, and the heavy rainfall during July 15 to 16. Most of landslides in natural slopes were transitional failures occurred along the boundary between the residual weathered soil in shallow depth and the hard mother rock. From results of conclusive analyses regarding 28 sites in Wonju region where landslides occurred, the slope length of landslide, the slope width, and the slope area were less than 50m with 71% of frequency, 20m with 79% of frequency and $300m^2$ of 64% of frequency respectively. The average value of slope angle was $35^{\circ}$. The most probable direction of slope was found to be north because of topography and advancing direction of seasonal rain front.
Soil moisture is one of the most important interests in hydrological response and the interaction between the land surface and atmosphere. Estimation of Antecedent Wetness Conditions (AWC) which is soil moisture condition prior to a rainfall in the basin should be considered for rainfall-runoff prediction. In this study, Soil Wetness Index (SWI), Antecedent Precipitation Index ($API_5$), remotely sensed Soil Moisture ($SM_{rs}$), and 5 days ground Soil Moisture ($SM_{g5}$) were selected to estimate the AWC at four study area in the Korean Peninsula. The remotely sensed soil moisture data were taken from the AMSR-E soil moisture archive. The maximum potential retention ($S_{obs}$) was obtained from direct runoff and rainfall using Soil Conservation Service-Curve Number (SCS-CN) method by rainfall data of 2011 for each study area. Results showed the great correlations between the maximum potential retention and SWI with a mean correlation coefficient which is equal to -0.73. The results of time length representing the time scale of soil moisture showed a gap from region to region. It was due to the differences of soil types and the characteristics of study area. Since the remotely sensed soil moisture has been proved as reasonable hydrological variables to predict a wetness in the basin, it should be continuously monitored.
