Structural health monitoring through meta-heuristics - comparative performance study

  • Damage detection and localisation in structures is essential since it can be a means for preventive maintenance of those structures under service conditions. The use of structural modal data for detecting the damage is one of the most efficient methods. This paper presents comparative performance of various state-of-the-art meta-heuristics for use in structural damage detection based on changes in modal data. The metaheuristics include differential evolution (DE), artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC), real-code ant colony optimisation (ACOR), charged system search (ChSS), league championship algorithm (LCA), simulated annealing (SA), particle swarm optimisation (PSO), evolution strategies (ES), teaching-learning-based optimisation (TLBO), adaptive differential evolution (JADE), evolution strategy with covariance matrix adaptation (CMAES), success-history based adaptive differential evolution (SHADE) and SHADE with linear population size reduction (L-SHADE). Three truss structures are used to pose several test problems for structural damage detection. The meta-heuristics are then used to solve the test problems treated as optimisation problems. Comparative performance is carried out where the statistically best algorithms are identified.

Digital Watermarking Method using Discrete Optimization Method (이산최적화 기법을 사용한 디지털 워터마킹)

  • In recent, watermarking technology have been paying attention to methods avoiding illegal use and reproduce of digital contents. Then, in order to protect the right of digital contents, a watermark image is inserted into original images. In different watermarking methods, several technologies using Ant Colony Algorithm have been studied. In this paper, we propose a watermarking method using a discrete optimization method in the ants colony algorithm. This proposed method resembls the process that ants follow the pheromone traps to find out food. And when a watermark image is inserted into original images, the proposed method considers the deployment of obstacles or the balance between cells in the entire digital image. Simulation results show that the proposed method is increased in robustness of watermarked image and is decreased in the perceptibility of watermarking compared to the previous methods.

  • Most biofuel companies are in a small scale with short experience of operating the entire supply chain. In order to compete with existing fossil fuel competitors, renewable companies should be more responsive to demand. It is financially important to reflect this in the decision supporting system of the company. This paper addresses an evolutionary algorithm based methodology for the distribution problem of renewable energies. A numerical example was presented to illustrate the applicability of the proposed methodology with some remarks.

CO2 emissions optimization of reinforced concrete ribbed slab by hybrid metaheuristic optimization algorithm (IDEACO)

  • This paper presents an optimization of the reinforced concrete ribbed slab in terms of minimum CO2 emissions and an economic justification of the final optimal design. The design variables are six geometry variables including the slab thickness, the ribs spacing, the rib width at the lower and toper end, the depth of the rib and the bar diameter of the reinforcement, and the seventh variable defines the concrete strength. The objective function is considered to be the minimum amount of carbon dioxide gas (CO2) emission and at the same time, the optimal design is economical. Seven significant design constraints of American Concrete Institute's Standard were considered. A robust metaheuristic optimization method called improved dolphin echolocation and ant colony optimization (IDEACO) has been used to obtain the best possible answer. At optimal design, the three most important sources of CO2 emissions include concrete, steel reinforcement, and formwork that the contribution of them are 63.72, 32.17, and 4.11 percent respectively. Formwork, concrete, steel reinforcement, and CO2 are the four most important sources of cost with contributions of 67.56, 19.49, 12.44, and 0.51 percent respectively. Results obtained by IDEACO show that cost and CO2 emissions are closely related, so the presented method is a practical solution that was able to reduce the cost and CO2 emissions simultaneously.

생체모방 알고리즘 기반 통신 네트워크 기술

  • 수십 억년 동안 진화를 거듭해온 지구상의 생명체들은 외부의 제어 없이 독자적으로 단순한 행동 규칙에 따라 기능을 수행하여 주어진 목적의 최적해를 달성한다. 이러한 다양한 생명체의 행동 원리를 모델링하여 만든 알고리즘을 생체모방 알고리즘(Bio-Inspired Algorithm)이라 한다. 생체모방 알고리즘은 다수의 개체가 존재하며, 주변 환경이 동적으로 변하고, 가용 자원의 제약이 주어지며, 이질적인 특성을 갖는 개체들이 분잔 및 자율적으로 움직이는 환경에서 안정성, 확장성, 적응성과 같은 특징을 보여주는데, 이는 통신 네트워크 환경 및 서비스 요구사항과 유사성을 갖는다. 본 논문에서는 대표적인 생체모방 알고리즘으로 통신 및 네트워킹 기술로 사용되는 Ant Colony 알고리즘, Bee 알고리즘, Firefly 알고리즘, Flocking 알고리즘에 대해 살펴보고, 관련 프로젝트 및 연구 동향을 정리한다. 이를 통해 현재의 생체모방 알고리즘의 한계를 극복하고 미래 통신 및 네트워킹 기술이 나아갈 방향을 제시한다.

  • In this paper, we present an agent-based transportation routing method in a semi-conductor production line. The main characteristic of the proposed method is that each AGV agent individually searches candidates of its route with reference of the pheromone information based on the use of an analogy of Ant System. The proposed method is applied to several routing problems. The performances of the proposed method are compared with those of a Genetic Algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed method is conrmed by many numerical examples.   • 컨테이너 터미널에서 효율적인 적하작업 계획을 자동으로 생성하는 알고리즘을 연구하였다. 실제 터미널에서 계획자들이 적하작업 계획시에 고려하는 제약소건 및 효율적인 계획을 위한 고려사항을 조사하였다. 이를 바탕으로 1단계에서는 개미시스템(ant system)이라는 인공지능기법을 적용하여 제약조건을 만족시키면서 원활한 적하작업이 진행될 수 있도록 컨테이너 크레인과 트랜스퍼 크레인의 이동순서와 위치를 결정하고, 2단계에서는 1단계에서의 결과를 바탕으로 빔탐색법(beam search)을 사용하여 컨테이너 개개의 작업순서를 결정하는 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 또한 개발된 시스템의 성능을 검증하기 위하여 최근의 대형선반에 대한 실제 현장자료를 바탕으로 실험을 수행하였다.

Vibration Control of a Semi-Active Engine Mount Using an ER Fluid (ER 유체를 이용한 반능동형 엔진마운트의 진동제어)

  • This paper presents the vibration control of an engine mount featuring an ER(electro-rheological) fluid. The Bingham properties of the ER fluid to be employed to the ER engine mount are experimentally obtained through Coeutte type viscometer. The ER engine mount is devised ant its governing equation is derived. After evaluating the performance of the ER engine mount on the basis of the mathematical model, the novel type of the ER engine mount is then designed and manufactured. The electric field-dependent transmissibility of the ER engine mount is evaluated by changing the particle concentration and the electrode gap size. To investigate the control performance of the ER engine mount, neuro-control algorithm is adopted. It is shown that the proposed ER engine mount has prominent capabilities of controlling the damping force by tuning the electric fields and excellent vibration isolation performance.

  • 무선 센서 네트워크는 기존의 무선 통신 기술로는 구현 불가능했던 다양한 응용 기술의 실현을 가능케 할 것으로 기대되고 있다. 이를 위해 제한된 자원의 효율적인 사용을 통한 무선 센서 네트워크의 성능 향상에 대한 연구가 지속되고 있으며 네트워크 계층에 있어서는 에너지 효율적인 라우팅 알고리즘에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 데이터 중심(data-centric) 멀티 홉(multi-hop) 평면 라우팅 알고리즘에 최적화 알고리즘의 하나인 Ant Colony Optimization을 적용한 에너지 효율적인 라우팅 알고리즘을 제안한다. 시뮬레이션 결과, 제안한 알고리즘은 기존의 알고리즘에 비해 데이터 전송 지연 시간을 줄였을 뿐만 아니라, 경로 선택 및 유지에 필요한 제어 메시지 최소화를 통해 에너지 소모를 줄여 데이터 전송량의 증가를 가능케 했다.

Intention-Oriented Itinerary Recommendation Through Bridging Physical Trajectories and Online Social Networks

  • Compared with traditional itinerary planning, intention-oriented itinerary recommendations can provide more flexible activity planning without requiring the user's predetermined destinations and is especially helpful for those in unfamiliar environments. The rank and classification of points of interest (POI) from location-based social networks (LBSN) are used to indicate different user intentions. The mining of vehicles' physical trajectories can provide exact civil traffic information for path planning. This paper proposes a POI category-based itinerary recommendation framework combining physical trajectories with LBSN. Specifically, a Voronoi graph-based GPS trajectory analysis method is utilized to build traffic information networks, and an ant colony algorithm for multi-object optimization is implemented to locate the most appropriate itineraries. We conduct experiments on datasets from the Foursquare and GeoLife projects. A test of users' satisfaction with the recommended items is also performed. Our results show that the satisfaction level reaches an average of 80%.
