  • The creation of favorable water space, in our living circumferential space, is very important factor to offer rural scenery to neighbor residents. We are to introduce stream landscape arrangement technique considering favorable water environment against conventional methods. In this study, the modeling district is Seungdu small stream of Ansung river system in Pyung-Teak city, Kyonggi province, and we carried out stream landscape simulation. The arranging plans of landscape are classified ti three types. The first one is conservation type of ecological environment that can express natural characteristics of stream inherence, raise variety of living things and construct coexisting environment between human beings and the other living things. The secong one is favorable water approach type. The basic object of this type is space construction for easy approach to waterside and increase of comfortable feelings of spectators. The third one is water utilization/flood control management type. In planning of environmentally favorable landscape arrangement, this type is the most important but is likely to be ignored. This type is an arranging plan of stream landscape considering safety. Also, we developed Streams Landscape Simulation System(SLSS). This program can be used for comparison of original landscape image with simulated one. To apply SLSS on the interested stream, landscape simulation that is based on hydraulic characteristics, runoff, flow direction, detailed conditions of basin and ecosystem of stream have to be executed. In this point, developing a stereographical technique of image processing and exact study of applying plan have to be executed continually.

  • rate of outflow is equated to the total rate of flow, both the state equation and its linearized equation yield almost identical oscillations of water levels. This shows that effects of pipe resistance on the surges are small, and justifies a free oscillation analysis. Free oscillation equation has six eigen modes of different periods, including a rigid mode which is existed when the pumped rate of outflow differs from the total rate of inflow. The six modes constitute a variety of surges dependent on different inflow and outflow conditions. Presence of the rigid mode needs sophisticated pump operations adjusted to real flood inflows.

  • This paper presents the empirical formulas for determining the design-width for medium rivers in the Han river basin. The design flood, the watershed ares, and the channel slope of 216 medium rivers in the Han river basin are collected. the design width formulas are then determined by 1) the least squares (LS) method, 2)the least median squares (LMS) method, and 3) the reweighted least squares method based on the LMS (RLS). The six types of formulas are considered to determine the acceptable type for medium streams in the Han river basin. The root mean squared errors (RMSE), the absolute mean (AME) errors, and the mean errors (ME) are computed to test the formulas derived by three regression methods. It si found that the equation related stream width to the watershed area and the channel slope is acceptable for determining the design width for medium streams in the Han river basin. It is expected that the equations proposed by this study be used an index for determining the design-width for medium streams in the Han river basin.

  • A fourteen-month-old Holstein bull from a private cattle fattening farm at Ansung county in Kyunggi Province Korea was submitted on August 2nd 1997, for examination at the Pathology Division of the National Veterinary Research Institute. The bull died within 24 hours after developing clinical signs of abrupt inertia, complete anorexia high fever(40.3℃) diffuse severe emphysematous swelling of upper part of the right hind leg lateral recumbancy and paralysis. At necropsy diffuse severe subcutaneous redness and influx of serosanguinous exudate containing gas bubbles had accumulated under the thorax right hip and upper region of right hind leg. Muscles in upper right hind leg were blackish to dark red and yellowish brown in color. Muscle bundles were dry and separated by gas bubbles and serosanguinous fluids and muscles sections from affected regions floated in water. Histopathologically muscle fibers were partially or entirely degenerated fragmented and separated by exudate and gaseous substance mixed with polymorphonuclear cells. Blood vascular walls in affected regions showed severe acute fibrinoid necrosis. Typical large rod-shaped bacteria with or without oval central to subterminal spores were frequently observed in tissue sections stained with H-E and Gram stain. The large Gram-positive anaerobic endospore-producing rods were isolated from the suspension of muscle lesions. Isolated bacteria were identified as Clostridium(CL) chauvoei and CL. sordellii by biochemical tests. This case was diagnosed as blackleg based on the typical clinical signs gross finding histopathological observation and bacteriological results. This is the first case report on blackleg associated with Cl. chauvoei and Cl. sordellii in Holstein cattle in Korea.

  • The objective of this study was to identify the applicability of AGNPS(Agricultural Nonpoint Source Pollution) model using RS data; Landsat TM merged by KOMPSAT EOC and GIS data. AGNPS model which is well-known distributed nonpoint source pollution model was used as the assessment tool. This model has the capability to adjust the level of pollutant load from farmstead and the fertilization level of upland field. A small agricultural watershed($4.12km^2$) which has 20 livestock farmhouses located in Gosan-myun, Ansung-gun was selected. AGNPS data were prepared by using Arc/Info, GRASS, ER-Mapper and Idrisi. Four storm events in 1999 were used for runoff calibration, and 2 storm events which were measured in hourly-base at 4 locations along the stream were used for water quality(TN, TP) calibration.

  • Purpose: In spite of the recent application of a general infection control method, central line-associated infections is still relatively high in Korea. Central line bundle with Chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) tegaderm dressing was reported to be effective in reducing catheter colonization and central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI). Therefore, this study aimed to examine the incidences of catheter colonization occurrence and CLABSI while using Tegaderm vs. CHG Tegaderm dressings. Methods: We used a descriptive design. 400 patients who had central venous catheters were selected from four hospitals in the Korean National Healthcare-associated Infections Surveillance System. Of all subjects, 200 used Tegaderm™ (Tegaderm group), and the remaining 200 used CHG Tegaderm (CHG Tegaderm group) dressing at the catheter insertion site. Data were analyzed using the χ2 test or Fisher's exact test, t-test, and logistic regression analysis using SPSS WIN 21.0. Results: In the Tegaderm and CHG Tegaderm groups, CLABSI incidences were 5.89 and 1.79 per 1,000 catheter-days, catheter colonization incidences were 3.93 and 1.43 per 1,000 catheter-days, and central line bundle compliance rates were 26.0% and 49.0%, respectively. Catheter colonization risk factors were 'reinsertion after failure' and 'Tegaderm dressing' at the central line insertion site. CLABSI risk factors were 'incomplete performance of 7 central line bundle items' and 'Tegaderm dressing' at the central line insertion site. Conclusion: A further prospective study is needed to examine the effects of central line bundle with CHG Tegaderm dressing, avoiding central line reinsertion after failure, and improving the bundle compliance in reducing catheter colonization and CLABSI.

  • Blood pressure refers to the force exerted by circulating blood on the walls of blood vessels, and chronical elevation of blood pressure is known as hypertension. Although hypertension is affected by genetic and environmental factors, the genetic background of hypertension is not fully understood. One of the candidate genetic factors, Prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2 (PTGS2), is a membrane-bound enzyme, catalyzing the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin, and recently SNPs of PTGS2 gene was associated with hypertension in Japanese population. Therefore the association of PTGS2 polymorphisms was investigated with blood pressure in healthy Korean subjects, 470 unrelated individuals randomly selected from Ansung and Ansan cohorts. The 25 SNPs of PTGS2 gene were identified by the sequencing analysis of 24 Korean samples. Among identified polymorphisms, three SNPs (rs689466, -1329A>G; rs5275, +6365T>C; rs4648308, +8806G> A) were selected for further association analysis, and rs689466 located in promoter region was associated with blood pressure as well as triglyceride level in the blood. By in silico analysis, rs689466 locates in v-Myb transcription factor binding site, and the v-Myb site disappears when the SNP is changed from A to G nucleotide. Individuals with A/G and G/G genotype in rs689466 have higher blood pressure than those with A/A genotype, and the regression p-value is 0.008 for systolic and 0.004 for diastolic blood pressure. In summary, the PTGS2 polymorphism (rs689466) is associated with blood pressure in Asian populations based on this and Japanese studies, shedding light on it as a genetic risk marker of hypertension.

  • The endogenous steroids from human urine were simultaneously analyzed by selected ion monitoring method of GC/MS which is currently used for the doping procedure, together with anabolic steroids. The recovery range of this method was 72.33 %∼94.54% and the RSD values of precision and accuracy test were 1.43%∼10.86%, 0.96%∼9.98%, respectively. Using this method steroids profile was investigated in the urine of male volunteers after oral administration of nine anabolic steroids banned by IOC (International Olympic Committee). Urinary endogenous steroids level was varied specifically according to the excretion tendency of the metabolites of anabolic steroids.

  • In this paper, travel speed patterns were deducted based on historical DSRC travel speed data using Decision Tree technique to improve availability of the massive amount of historical data. These patterns were designed to reflect spatio-temporal vicissitudes in reality by generating pattern units classified by months, time of day, and highway sections. The study area was from Seoul TG to Ansung IC sections on Gyung-bu highway where high peak time of day frequently occurs in South Korea. Decision Tree technique was applied to categorize travel speed according to day of week. As a result, five different pattern groups were generated: (Mon)(Tue Wed Thu)(Fri)(Sat)(Sun). Statistical verification was conducted to prove the validity of patterns on nine different highway sections, and the accuracy of fitting was found to be 93%. To reduce travel pattern errors against individual travel speed data, inclusion of four additional variables were also tested. Among those variables, 'traffic condition on previous month' variable improved the pattern grouping accuracy by reducing 50% of speed variance in the decision tree model developed.

  • Estrogens, which play an important role in sex hormone and potential inhibitor of cancer cell proliferation were profiled for normal female and male. The nineteen endogeneous estrogens were simultaneously analyzed by selected ion monitoring method of GC/MS. Urinary estrogens were extracted by using Serdolit AD-2 resin, hydrolyzed with $\beta-glucuronidase/arylsulfatase$ from Helix pomatia, liquid-liquid extraction and quantitatively derivatized by MSTFA/TMSCl mixture in order to be detected on the GC/MS. The good quality-control data were obtained through the precision and accuracy test and the recovery range of them was 80.97∼97.81%. The Korean reference values of urinary estrogens were established and differences were found in normal female compared with normal male.
