Eco-village adopted its basis on continual notion as one of the alternative dwelling models in the dwelling sector and it suggests a dwelling pattern of modern society. Ansolgi village was organized in 2000 as an intended Eco-village for the first time in Korea and after 8 years, the village seems different to that of the earlier period. The cause of the difference can be originated from changes of planning strategies and notion of life. The village is different from its original design due to lack of space resorted from installation of many facility and overall layout of the village. The different look of the village can be categorized in 4 types; village layout, community facility, Eco-based facility and hydro circulation. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to suggest actual data about Eco-village establishment plan by performing a comparison analysis on the current status and the initial design on the basis of the intended Ansolgi village, the village that had been organized 8 years ago.

Eco-village is an alternative community which applies ecological principles to the development of human ecosystem in order to achieve sustainability. Ansolgi village in Korea has been established five years ago, in 1999, by a group of environment conscious families. The author has visited and stayed in the village twice during last two years, for several days each time, and observed and surveyed the changes of physical, social, and cultural aspects of the community. They adopt more environment friendly techniques in building their houses, sewage system, roads and parking, and growing their own foods, and so on. The residents have diverse jobs, many of them outside the village as the village lacks job opportunities. The residents themselves often question the sustainability of the village and reluctant to identity Ansolgi as an eco-village. Most residents joined the community with their own images of an eco-village and find it difficult to reach consensus on what the eco-village should be like and how it should be managed and maintained. Residents wish to get government assistances and professional guidance. This paper concludes it is still very difficulty and problematic to establish an eco-village in Korea.

It was undeniable that rapid development of scientific technology gave us not only convenience and efficiency but troubles for existence of human due to destruction of ecosystem. Especially, rapid and massive expansion of the city deteriorated those phenomenons. Constructing Ecovillage was important and could be an alternative dwelling model in that it was sustainable so that we could cope with the troubles. But now, meaning and purpose of it was being hazy while thoughtless Ecovillage and notions of it were diffused. This study began to derive planning and evaluation index of Ecovillage on the basis of reference studies and suggestion for the notion and purpose of Ecovillage. This study began to suggest more clear notion of Ecovillage with reference study and derive planning and evaluation index of Ecovillage on the basis of the prior study. After Interviewing research and Field study, the derived index was applied to Ansolgi village and an evaluation for the application was made to suggest a direction and ways to develop and activate Ecovillage. The result of evaluation with the indices showed that Ansolgi village had those declined to visible and easy to make planning factors. Therefore, to activate and sustain Ecovillage in KOREA, even, simultaneous and well linked planning and evaluation indices should be developed. At this moment, since ten years have passed from the beginning of Ecovillage in KOREA, a study reflecting dwellers' evaluation is needed. And it is the most important the dwellers' cognition for the problems and will to resolve them and continuous interest and investment of government and others who are interested in sustainable development.

The studies on eco-village have been focused on the notion of the village and methods to construct it. However, there haven't been enough studies to research changes of the village derived from dwellers of the village. This fact is being one of reasons to deliver many constructions of Eco-Villages being out of balance. Though the dweller is practical user of the village, planning methods concerning user's opinion are not used and even devaluated in the comparison to methods at the beginning of the planning. Thus, this study began to research dwellers' consciousness for Eco-Village and point out problems which can be happen in real life of Eco-Village.

Eco-village is emerging as one of housing styles in the modern age. The common space in Eco-village uses environment-friendly materials while residents appear to aspire to a community. The common space in Eco-village offers a place of interchange and interaction for both visitors and residents as a transit area connecting dwelling units. It also forms the sense of community and serves as a space that builds friendly relations among residents. However, there seems to be a lack of research compare to its various roles and importance for this common space, which is an significant factor in establishing Eco-village plans. The purpose of this study is to provide research data by creating a layout drawing of Eco-village and reveal the characteristics of space boundary and practical use of common space through case studies on villages. This will serve as actual data in designing common space which would correspond to the purpose of Eco-village planning.
