Effect of homogenization models on stress analysis of functionally graded plates

  • In this paper, the effect of homogenization models on stress analysis is presented for functionally graded plates (FGMs). The derivation of the effective elastic proprieties of the FGMs, which are a combination of both ceramic and metallic phase materials, is of most of importance. The majority of studies in the last decade, the Voigt homogenization model explored to derive the effective elastic proprieties of FGMs at macroscopic-scale in order to study their mechanical responses. In this work, various homogenization models were used to derive the effective elastic proprieties of FGMs. The effect of these models on the stress analysis have also been presented and discussed through a comparative study. So as to show this effect, a refined plate theory is formulated and evaluated, the number of unknowns and governing equations were reduced by dividing the transverse displacement into both bending and shear parts. Based on sinusoidal variation of displacement field trough the thickness, the shear stresses on top and bottom surfaces of plate were vanished and the shear correction factor was avoided. Governing equations of equilibrium were derived from the principle of virtual displacements. Analytical solutions of the stress analysis were obtained for simply supported FGM plates. The obtained results of the displacements and stresses were compared with those predicted by other plate theories available in the literature. This study demonstrates the sensitivity of the obtained results to different homogenization models and that the results generated may vary considerably from one theory to another. Finally, this study offers benchmark results for the multi-scale analysis of functionally graded plates.

  • In the face of the deterioration of tobacco manufacturing plant, we've got the plan for now manufacturing factory for the competitiveness, modernization, rationalization and environment. To achieve the goals, it was necessary to plan and investigate in the early stage of project. Consequently. We determined to introduce the CM in the early stage. We Performed the whole phase of CM services front the pre design phase services like feasibility analysis of site and building, plant master plan, selection of manufacturing facilities and drawing up the RFP, to maintenance management phase after the completion of a construction work. Contrary to the another CM projects, YongJu New Tobacco Manufacturing Plant CM organized the CM team with expert in field before the design development. This study analyze and evaluate the CM services of YongJu project which performed on the pre design phase. The purpose of this study is to emphasize the importance of pre design phase CM and support that CM services will start from the pre design phase.

Possible Production of Transgenic Chicken by Transferring Foreign Genes and Germ Cells (외부유전자의 전이에 의한 배아세포와 트란스젠닉 가금 생산의 가능성)

  • In recent years, numerous researches have been carried out in author's laboratory to develop several kinds of methods for producing transgened chicken, leaving a lot of new findings. Some of them are very useful to search for new approaches necessary to improve the efficiency of hatchability and the survival rate of developing trasgened embryos. The results obtained hitherto might be summarized as follows: (1) foreign gene(Lac Z/ Miw Z) introduced into blastodermal cells of developing embryos was successfully transferred to embryos, leading to the production of primordial germ cells(PGCs) carrying foreign DNA. However, hatched hickens failed to show the incorporation of introduced gene into the gonads. (2) When foreign gene was introduced into germinal crescent region (GCR), the gene was also efficiently incorporated into germ cells, resulting in the production of transgened chickens(offspring) which produced fruther offspring having foreign gene in the gonads. In this case, 2nd and 3rd generations of chickens were obtained through the reproduction of transgened birds. (3) In another way, the gene was injected into blood vessels of developing embryos at stage 13∼15, creating PGCs having foreign gene, and produced some transgened chickens. In this work, the PGCs were transfered between embryos, resulting in the production of transgenic chickens. (4) in these experiments, PGCs were effectively employed for producing transgenic birds, developing some kinds of chimeric chickens from homo- or hetero-sexual transfer of the PGCs from embryos. This means that the gonads from donor PGCs developed in some degree to the stage of hatching. However, these gonads showed slightly abnormal tissues similar to ovotestis like organs through histological examination. (5) Avian Leukosis Virus(ALV) induced B cell line(DT40) successfully carried foreign genes into chicken embryos, suggesting the possibility of the cells as a vector in this field of study in the future.   • Concrete is cost-benefit and high-durable construction material, however durability problem can be caused due to steel corrosion under chloride attack. Recently deicing salt has been widely spread in snowing season, which accelerates micro-cracks and scaling in surface concrete and the melted deicing salt causes corrosion in embedded steel. The previous governing equation of Fick's 2nd Law cannot evaluate the deteriorated surface concrete so that another technique is needed for the surface effect. This paper presents chloride penetration analysis technique for concrete subjected to deicing salt utilizing multi-layer diffusion model and time-dependent diffusion behavior. For the work, field investigation results of concrete pavement exposed deicing salt for 18 years are adopted. Through reverse analysis, deteriorated depth and increased diffusion coefficient in the depth are evaluated, which shows 12.5~15.0mm of deteriorated depth and increased diffusion coefficient by 2.0 times. The proposed technique can be effectively applied to concrete with two different diffusion coefficients considering enhanced or deteriorated surface conditions.

  • The capacitive coupled plasma is used widely in the semiconductor industries. Especially, the uniformity of the industrial plasma is heavily related with defect ratio of devices. Therefore, the industries need the capacitive coupled plasma source which can generate the uniform plasma and control the plasma's uniformity. To achieving the uniformity of the large area plasma, we designed multi-powered electrodes. We controlled the uniformity by controlling the power of each electrode. After this work, we started to research another concept of the plasma device. We make the plasma chamber that has multi-ground electrodes imaginary (CST microwave studio) and simulate the electric field. The shape of the multi-ground electrodes is ring type, and it is same as the shape of the multi-power electrodes that we researched before. The diameter of the side electrode's edge is 300mm. We assumed that the plasma uniformity is related with the impedance of ground electrodes. Therefore we simulated the imaginary chamber in three cases. First, we connected L (inductor) and C (capacitor) at the center of multi-ground electrodes. Second, we changed electric conductivity of multi-ground electrode. Third, we changed the insulator's thickness between the center ground electrode and the side ground electrode. The driving frequency is 2, 13.56 and 100 MHz. We switched our multi-powered electrode system to multi-ground electrode system. After switching, we measured the plasma uniformity after installing a variable vacuum capacitor at the ground line. We investigate the effect of ground electrodes' impedance to plasma uniformity.

Investigation on deck-stay interaction of cable-stayed bridges with appropriate initial shapes

  • This paper provides a variety of viewpoints to illustrate the mechanism of the deck-stay interaction with the appropriate initial shapes of cable-stayed bridges. Based on the smooth and convergent bridge shapes obtained by the initial shape analysis, the one-element cable system (OECS) and multi-element cable system (MECS) models of the Kao Ping Hsi Bridge in Taiwan are developed to verify the applicability of the analytical model and numerical formulation from the field observations in the authors' previous work. For this purpose, the modal analysis of the two finite element models are conducted to calculate the natural frequency and normalized mode shape of the individual modes of the bridge. The modal coupling assessment is also performed to obtain the generalized mass ratios among the structural components for each mode of the bridge. The findings indicate that the coupled modes are attributed to the frequency loci veering and mode localization when the "pure" deck-tower frequency and the "pure" stay cable frequency approach one another, implying that the mode shapes of such coupled modes are simply different from those of the deck-tower system or stay cables alone. The distribution of the generalized mass ratios between the deck-tower system and stay cables are useful indices for quantitatively assessing the degree of coupling for each mode. These results are demonstrated to fully understand the mechanism of the deck-stay interaction with the appropriate initial shapes of cable-stayed bridges.

  • This thesis deals with application of Windows CE for Embedded System and the development methode of "Speed Gate Controller Tester" taking advantage of development program. We can improve reliability, stability and convenience of maintenance work as use of "Speed Gate Controller Tester" which was developed and applied "Embedded System" We can provide customers with more qualified service naturally because of the higher rate of operation which makes people use more pleasant and comfortable subway facility. And also it is possible to manage processor, time schedule and hardware resource as application of Embedded System and Windows CE. Embedded System applied OS Windows CE makes it possible to develop other various products, another application of equipment and tester. Thus this paper treats problems the moment developed and the present condition, development process, field application results.

So the authors would take a look the technological trends and future development prospects of domestic and foreign rehabilitation robots. Until now, disability assistive robot technology has been mainly developed in the field of supporting disability with walking disabilities or work limitations rather than cognitive disabilities. However, another issue of population aging is that cognitive impairment has the potential to increase, so development of a disability assistance robot that secures user safety must be actively promoted. Mobile Robot Localization in Geometrically Similar Environment Combining Wi-Fi with Laser SLAM

  • Localization is a hot research spot for many areas, especially in the mobile robot field. Due to the weak signal of the global positioning system (GPS), the alternative schemes in an indoor environment include wireless signal transmitting and receiving solutions, laser rangefinder to build a map followed by a re-localization stage and visual positioning methods, etc. Among all wireless signal positioning techniques, Wi-Fi is the most common one. Wi-Fi access points are installed in most indoor areas of human activities, and smart devices equipped with Wi-Fi modules can be seen everywhere. However, the localization of a mobile robot using a Wi-Fi scheme usually lacks orientation information. Besides, the distance error is large because of indoor signal interference. Another research direction that mainly refers to laser sensors is to actively detect the environment and achieve positioning. An occupancy grid map is built by using the simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) method when the mobile robot enters the indoor environment for the first time. When the robot enters the environment again, it can localize itself according to the known map. Nevertheless, this scheme only works effectively based on the prerequisite that those areas have salient geometrical features. If the areas have similar scanning structures, such as a long corridor or similar rooms, the traditional methods always fail. To address the weakness of the above two methods, this work proposes a coarse-to-fine paradigm and an improved localization algorithm that utilizes Wi-Fi to assist the robot localization in a geometrically similar environment. Firstly, a grid map is built by using laser SLAM. Secondly, a fingerprint database is built in the offline phase. Then, the RSSI values are achieved in the localization stage to get a coarse localization. Finally, an improved particle filter method based on the Wi-Fi signal values is proposed to realize a fine localization. Experimental results show that our approach is effective and robust for both global localization and the kidnapped robot problem. The localization success rate reaches 97.33%, while the traditional method always fails.
