  • In this paper, we collected the physical traces from high speed Internet backbone traffic and analyze the various characteristics of the underlying packet traces. Particularly, our work is focused on analyzing the characteristics of an anomalous traffic. It is found that in our data, the anomalous traffic is caused by UDP session traffic and we determined that it was one of the Denial of Service attacks. In this work, we adopted the unsupervised machine learning algorithm to classify the network flows. We apply the k-means clustering algorithm to train the learner. Via the Cramer-Yon-Misses test, we confirmed that the proposed classification method which is able to detect anomalous traffic within 1 second can accurately predict the class of a flow and can be effectively used in determining the anomalous flows.

  • Some REE ore deposits are located in the middle part the of Korean peninsula. Geotectonically, the REE ore deposits situated on the Kyemyeongsan Formation of northern margin of the Okcheon geosynclinal belt and in the transitional zone between Kyeonggi massif and the Okcheon belt, with a deep-seated fracture separating the two tectonic units. The Kyemyeongsan Formation are different in lithology and metamorphic grade from the Gyeonggi massif and the Okcheon super group. The sequence of Kyemyeongsan Formation is dominantly composed of acidic metavolcanic and volcaniclastic rocks associated with alkaline igneous rocks which are related to volcano-plutonism. The REE ore deposits contain mainly Ce-La, Ta-Nb, Y, Y-Nd and Nd-Th group minerals. More than 15 RE and REE minerals have been found in the deposits, such as allanite, fergusonite, thorite bestnaesite, euxenite, polyclase, monazite, columbite, (Nb)-rutile, okanoganite, sphene, zircon, illmenite and some other unknown minerals. According to the characteristics of the mineral association, the REE ore deposits may be divided into 4 ore types; Zircon-REE, allanite-REE, feldspar-REE and fluorite-REE type. The Sm-Nd isochron age of the REE ore is 330 Ma, and the Sm-Nd model age is 1.11 Ga with ${\varepsilon}_{Nd(t)}$ being - 2.9. This data suggest that the REE ore deposit was formed in the early Carboniferous, and the ore-forming material came from the mantle. The REE ores show distinct light REE enrichment with strong negative Eu anomaly. The REE patterns of schistose rocks from Kyemyeongsan Formation are similar to felsic volcanics from rifts or back arc basins in or near continental crust. The genesis of the REE ore deposit is quite complicated. Different geologic processes are displayed in the studied area; sedimentation, volcanic activity, metamorphism and hydrothermal replacement. Alkali granite has suffered extensive post-magmatic metasomatism of a high temperature to produce alkali metasomatites. Geochemical charateristics show that metasomatism of alkaline fluid was probably the dominant ore-forming process in Chungju district.

  • After launch of Low Earth Orbit(LEO) satellite, Initial Activation Checkout(IAC) and Calibration and Validation(Cal & Val) procedure are performed prior to enter normal operation phase. During normal operation phase, most of the time is allocated for mission operation except following up measures to anomaly and orbit maintenance. Since mission operation capability is key indicator for success of LEO satellite program and consistent with promotion purpose of LEO satellite program, reliability should be ensured by conducting through test. In order to ensure reliability by examining the role of LEO satellite and ground station during ground test phase, realistic test scenario that is similar to actual operation conditions should be created, and test that aims to verify full mission cycle should be performed by transmitting created command and receiving image and telemetry data. This paper describes the test design and result. Consideration items for test design are described in detail and result of designed test items are summarized.

  • Out-of-limit (OOL) alarm method that is threshold checking of telemetry value is widely used for the satellites fault diagnosis and health monitoring. However, it requires engineering knowledge and effort to define delicate threshold value and has limitations that anomalous behaviors within the defined limits can't be detected. In this paper, we propose a satellite anomalous behavior detection system through fuzzy model that is composed by important statistical feature selected by rough-set theory. Not pre-defined anomaly is detected because only normal state data is used for fuzzy model. Also, anomalous behavior within the threshold limit is detected by using statistic feature that can be collected without engineering knowledge. The proposed system successfully detected non-ordinary state for battery temperature telemetry.

  • A GDS (Geomagnetic Depth Sounding) method, one of extremely low-frequency EM methods, has been carried out to examine deep geo-electrical structures of the Korean peninsula. In this study, five additive GDS sites acquired in south-eastern area of the Korea were integrated into twelve previous GDS results. In addition, 3-D MT modeling considering the surrounding seas of the Korean peninsula was performed to evaluate sea effect at each GDS site quantitatively. As a result, Observed real induction arrows was not explained by solely sea effect, two conductive structures that are able to explain differences between observed and calculated induction arrows, was suggested. The first conductive structure is the Imjingang Belt, which is thought as a extension of Quiling-Dabie-sulu continental collision belt. The effects of the Imjingang Belt clearly appear at YIN and ICHN sites. The second one is the HCL (Highly Conductive Layer), which is considered as a conductive anomaly by mantle upwelling generated in back-basin region. The effects of the HCL are also confirmed at KZU, KMT101, 107 sites, in the south-eastern of the Korean peninsula.

  • As the usage of mobile devices extremely increases, malicious mobile apps(applications) that target mobile users are also increasing. It is challenging to detect these malicious apps using traditional malware detection techniques due to intelligence of today's attack mechanisms. Deep learning (DL) is an alternative technique of traditional signature and rule-based anomaly detection techniques and thus have actively been used in numerous recent studies on malware detection. In order to develop DL-based defense mechanisms against intelligent malicious apps, feeding recent datasets into DL models is important. In this paper, we develop a DL-based model for detecting intelligent malicious apps using KU-CISC 2018-Android, the most up-to-date dataset consisting of benign and malicious Android apps. This dataset has hardly been addressed in other studies so far. We extract OPcode sequences from the Android apps and preprocess the OPcode sequences using an N-gram model. We then feed the preprocessed data into LSTM and apply the concept of Information Gain to improve performance of detecting malicious apps. Furthermore, we evaluate our model with numerous scenarios in order to verify the model's design and performance.

  • By analyzing Asian Precipitation-Highly-Resolved Observational Data Integration Towards Evaluation (APHRODITE) from May to September for 1951~2007, this study investigates impacts of two dominant boreal summer intraseasonal oscillation (BSISO) modes on precipitation over Monsoon Asia including Korea and long-term change of 10~20-day and 30~60-day ISO over Korea. It is shown that BSISO strongly modulates rainfall variability over the many part of Monsoon Asia including Korea. Korea tends to have more (less) rainfall during the phases 3~5 (7~8) of BSISO1 representing the canonical northward/northeastward propagating 30~60-day ISO and during the phases 6~8 (3~5) of BSISO2 representing the northward/northwestward propagating 10~20-day ISO. It is found that the 10~20-day ISO variability contributes to summer mean rainfall variability more than 30~60-day ISO over Korea. For the 57 years of 1951~2007, the correlation coefficient between the May to September mean precipitation anomaly and standard deviation of 10~20-day (30~60-day) ISO is 0.71 (0.46). It is further noted that there is a significant increasing trend in the 10~20-day and 30~60-day ISO variability in the rainy season during the period of 1951 to 2007.

  • In order to collect information on local distribution of conductivity and permittivity underneath a scan probe, we developed a multi-frequency trans-admittance scanner (TAS). Applying a sinusoidal voltage with variable frequency on a chosen distal part of a human body, we measure exit currents from 320 grounded electrodes placed on a chosen surface of the subject. The electrodes are packaged inside a small and light scan probe. The system includes one voltage source and 17 digital ammeters. Front-end of each ammeter is a current-to-voltage converter with virtual grounding of a chosen electrode. The rest of the ammeter is a voltmeter performing digital phase-sensitive demodulation. Using resistor loads, we calibrate the system including the scan probe to compensate frequency-dependent variability of current measurements and also inter-channel variability among multiple. We found that SNR of each ammeter is about 85dB and the minimal measurable current is 5nA. Using saline phantoms with objects made from TX-151, we verified the performance of the lesion estimation algorithm. The error rate of the depth estimation was about 19.7%. For the size estimate, the error rate was about 15.3%. The results suggest improvement in lesion estimation algorithm based on multi-frequency trans-admittance data.

  • The year-to-year fluctuations of seasonal variation of sea surface temperatures (SST) in the Korea Strait are studied based on monthly SST data for more than 50 years at Mitsushima ana Okinoshima in the strait. The frequency distribution of SST has two peaks at temperatures below and above the multi-year average, but that of SST anomalies has only one peak at the zero anomaly. More than $95\%$ of the anomalies are in the range of ${\pm}2^{\circ}C$. The harmonic constansts of seasonal SST variation vary from year to year. The standard deviations of annual means, annual amplitudes, ana semi-annual amplitudes are less than $1^{\circ}C$, and those of the annual ana semi-annual phases are about $5^{\circ}$ and less than $50^{\circ}$, respectively. The SST in the Korea Strait have a tendency to decrease their amplitudes as the annual means increase. Physical mechanisms responsible for the analyzed results are discussed in this paper.
