  • Despite the abundant literature in the field, there is still the need to find a time-efficient, highly accurate, easy to deploy and robust localization algorithm for real use. The algorithm only involves minimal human intervention. We propose an enhanced Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) based positioning algorithm for Wi-Fi capable devices, called the Dynamic Weighted Evolution for Location Tracking (DWELT). Due to the multiple phenomena affecting the propagation of radio signals, RSSI measurements show fluctuations that hinder the utilization of straightforward positioning mechanisms from widely known propagation loss models. Instead, DWELT uses data processing of raw RSSI values and applies a weighted posterior-probabilistic evolution for quick convergence of localization and tracking. In this paper, we present the first implementation of DWELT, intended for 1D location (applicable to tunnels or corridors), and the first step towards a more generic implementation. Simulations and experiments show an accuracy of 1m in more than 81% of the cases, and less than 2m in the 95%.

  • The main purpose of milk heat-treatment is to improve milk safety for consumer by destroying foodborne pathogens. Secondly, heat-treatment of milk is to increase maintaining milk quality by inactivating spoilage microorganisms and enzymes. Pasteurization is defined by the International Dairy Federation (IDF, 1986) as a process applied with the aim of avoiding public health hazards arising from pathogens associated with milk, by heat treatment which is consistent with minimal chemical, physical and organoleptic changes in the product. Milk pasteurization were adjusted to $63{\sim}65^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes (Low temperature long time, LTLT) or $72{\sim}75^{\circ}C$ for 15 seconds (High temperature short time, HTST) to inactivate the pathogens such as Mycobacterium bovis, the organism responsible for tuberculosis. Ultra-high temperature processing (UHT) sterilizes food by heating it above $135^{\circ}C$ ($275^{\circ}F$) - the temperature required to destroy the all microorganisms and spores in milk - for few seconds. The first LTLT system (batch pasteurization) was introduced in Germany in 1895 and in the USA in 1907. Then, HTST continuous processes were developed between 1920 and 1927. UHT milk was first developed in the 1960s and became generally available for consumption in the 1970s. At present, UHT is most commonly used in milk production.

  • Advanced mobile communication devices require a bright, high information content display in a small, light-weight, low power consumption package. In this paper we will outline our progress towards developing such a low power consumption active-matrix flexible OLED ($FOLED^{TM}$) display. Our work in this area is focused on three critical enabling technologies. The first is the development of a high efficiency long-lived phosphorescent OLED ($PHOLED{TM}$) device technology, which has now proven itself to be capable of meeting the low power consumption performance requirements for mobile display applications. Secondly, is the development of flexible active matrix backplanes, and for this our team are employing poly-Si TFTs formed on metal foil substrates as this approach represents an attractive alternative to fabricating poly-Si TFTs on plastic for the realization of first generation flexible active matrix OLED displays. Unlike most plastics, metal foil substrates can withstand a large thermal load and do not require a moisture and oxygen permeation barrier. Thirdly, the key to reliable operation is to ensure that the organic materials are fully encapsulated in a package designed for repetitive flexing. We also present progress in operational lifetime of encapsulated T-PHOLED pixels on planarized metal foil and discuss PHOLED encapsulation strategy.

  • Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the burden experienced by nursing personnel working irregular shifts in Greece and to conduct the first test of a Greek version of the Standard Shiftwork Index (SSI). Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out. The SSI was completed by 365 nurses and nursing assistants working shifts, including nights. Results: Female nursing personnel and those suffering from a chronic disease were most affected by working rotating shifts as they had elevated scores on the majority of the SSI scales, such as sleep, chronic fatigue, digestive and cardiovascular problems, general health questionnaire, cognitive and somatic anxiety, shift time satisfaction, engagement and disengagement strategies, languidity, flexibility, and neurotisicm. Nurses with longer working experience and those with family responsibilities also scored higher on some of the SSI scales, such as the sleep, shift time satisfaction, social and domestic disruption, disengagement strategies, morningness, and languidity scales. Conclusion: Shiftwork affects female nurses, those with chronic disease, older age, and domestic responsibilities more severely. Therefore management should take these factors into account when designing work schedules to alleviate the burden caused by shiftwork.

  • To understand the fundamental parameters of Alvand tokamak, A Rogowski coil with an active integrator was designed and constructed. Considering the characteristics of the Alvand tokamak, the structural and electrical parameters affecting the sensor function, were designed. Calibration was performed directly in the presence of plasma. The sensor has a high resistance against interference of external magnetic fields. Plasma current was measured in various experiments. Based on the plasma current profile and loop voltage signal, the time evolution of plasma discharge was investigated and plasma behavior was analyzed. Alvand tokamak discharge was divided into several regions that represents different physical phenomena in the plasma. During the plasma discharge time, plasma had significant changes and its characteristic was not uniform. To understand the plasma behavior in each of the phases, the Rogowski sensor should have sufficient time resolution. The Rogowski sensor with a frequency up to 15 kHz was appropriate for this purpose.

  • Staphylococcus aureus cultures exposed to rotating magnetic field (RMF) were studied in order to analyse the possible induced changes in staphylococcal enterotoxin genes (se) expression. Liquid cultures of S. aureus strains carrying different se were exposed to the RMF of magnetic frequency 50 Hz and magnetic induction 34 mT for 10 h at $37^{\circ}C$. Three time points of bacterial growth cycle were considered for RNA extractions. Gene expression analyses were evaluated using real-time quantitative PCR method. The present study confirmed, that the RMF can stimulate the growth rate of S. aureus cultures in comparison to the unexposed controls, while the stimulation is not strain dependent. The studies have also shown, that the RMF, depending on the exposure time but regardless the bacterial strain, can influence on the expression of various se. In general, except for sea, as a result of bacterial exposure to the RMF through subsequent growth phases, the expression of se decreased, reaching the values below results recorded for unexposed controls. In the case of sea expression remained at a lower level as compared to the control, regardless the time of exposition.

  • Objectives : The goal of this paper is to enhance the percentage of linkages between an acupuncture point ontology and an acupuncture treatment ontology. Methods : Terms of the effect from acupuncture points and terms of the treatment method from diseases are selected in the ontologies. We have disassembled the terms into minimum meaning units and then linked them again. Results : By linking terms of the effect and terms of the treatment method, the meaninful information on the acupuncture point and treatment ontology is increased. Conclusions : The links between points for acupuncture points and treatment methods for diseases could improve the information in the ontologies. This also enables the knowledge representation for the use of acupuncture points with accompanied symptoms, causes of disease, and treatment methods.

  • Pseudomonas strains isolated from the heavily contaminated Lubin copper mine and Zelazny Most post-flotation waste reservoir in Poland were screened for the presence of integrons. This analysis revealed that two strains carried homologous DNA regions composed of a gene encoding a DNA_BRE_C domain-containing tyrosine recombinase (with no significant sequence similarity to other integrases of integrons) plus a three-component array of putative integron gene cassettes. The predicted gene cassettes encode three putative polypeptides with homology to (i) transmembrane proteins, (ii) GCN5 family acetyltransferases, and (iii) hypothetical proteins of unknown function (homologous proteins are encoded by the gene cassettes of several class 1 integrons). Comparative sequence analyses identified three structural variants of these novel integron-like elements within the sequenced bacterial genomes. Analysis of their distribution revealed that they are found exclusively in strains of the genus Pseudomonas.

  • This study seeks to determine the effect of the application of accounting information system (AIS), internal control system, and human resource (HR) competency on the quality of local government financial statements (FS). This study uses agency theory and compliance theory. Agency theory is used to explain that there is a link between the society as the principal and the government as the agent. Compliance theory is a theory, which states that every agency is obliged to comply with regulations because the law-drafting authority has the right to dictate behavior. The population in this study were employees of the financial division of local government organizations in one of the districts in Central Java, Indonesia. The total samples in this study was 106 respondents. The data used are primary data taken from distributing questionnaires to respondents. The method of analysis used to test the hypothesis was multiple linear regression analysis. The results of hypothesis testing indicate that HR competency has an effect on the quality of FS; however, the application of AIS and internal control system has no effect on the quality of FS. The implication of this research underlines the importance of HR competency to improve the quality of local government FS.

  • Human behaviour normally depends on the environment of the incident and the time of its occurrence. The behaviour of people depends on many factors and these behaviour traits are an important aspect in the Library and Information Science (LIS) field. Hence in this paper an attempt has been made to examine the behaviour traits of LIS students in South India. Out of 400 questionnaires distributed 367 have responded and the response rate is 91.75%. In this survey three aspects comprising student behaviour have been analysed such as Work Environment, Natural Environment, and Social Environment. In the case of Work Environment the respondents were grouped as Workaholic, Impatience, Achievement oriented, Rash nature, and Punctuality. Further, in respect to Natural environment, the respondents are grouped as Complacent, Patience, Easygoing, and Relaxed. Last, the respondents were grouped in the Social Environment as Balancing nature, Magnanimity, Naturalistic, Assertive nature, Dependency, Lucrative, Lonely nature, and Time Based personality. Finally the authors conclude that LIS students need to possess these qualities and behaviours to work in different environments.
