Deformation by line heating for thin plate (박판 곡직을 위한 선 가열 시 변형 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The line heating methods is very widely employed to correct deformation of thin plate structures. In this study, evaluation was carried out on the temperature distribution of line heating methods using FEA and practical experiments. In FEA, heat input model was established using Tsuji's double Gaussian heat input mode. This model was verified by comparing with experimental data. Thermo elasto-plastic analysis was performed using commercial FE code, MSC/MARC. Transverse shrinkage and angular distortion were measured using 3D measuring apparatus. Based on these results, a simplified analysis method is applied by using equivalent loading method.

  • This paper is mainly concerned with developing the formulae of predicting thermal deformation of steel plate due to multi-line heating. By investigating the results of line heating test and numerical analysis, reasonable heat flux model has been defined. Formulae of predicting the transverse shrinkage and the angular distortion as the dominant thermal deformation types in plate forming by line heating have been derived based on the results of line heating test and numerical analysis with varying plate thickness, heating speed and distance between torches. This paper illustrates how the derived formulae are used in investigating the effect of multi-line heating upon the thermal deformation and how they can be used in defining the limit distance with that there is no interacted effect between torches. This paper ends with describing the extension of the present study.

  • Ground movements during tunnelling have the potential for major impact on nearby buildings, utilities and streets. The impacts on buildings are assessed by linking the magnitude of ground loss at the source of ground loss around tunnel to the lateral and vertical displacements on the ground surface, and then to the lateral strain and angular distortion, and resulting damage in the building. To prevent or mitigate the impacts on nearby buildings, it is important to understand the whole mechanism from tunnelling to building damage. This paper discusses tunneling-induced ground movements and their impacts on nearby buildings, including the importance of the soil-structure interactions. In addition, a building damage criterion, which is based on the state of strain, is presented and discussed in detail and the overall damage assessment procedure is provided for the estimation of tunnelling-induced building damage considering the effect of soil-structure interaction.

Testing LCDM with eBOSS / SDSS

  • In this talk I will review recent progress that the SDSS-IV / eBOSS collaboration has made in constraining cosmology from the clustering of galaxies, quasars and the Lyman-alpha forest. The SDSS-IV / eBOSS collaboration has measured the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) and redshift space distortion (RSD) features in the correlation function in redshift bins from z~0.15 to z~2.33. These features constitute measurements of angular diameter distances, Hubble distances, and growth rate measurements. A number of consistency tests have been performed between the BAO and RSD datasets and additional cosmological datasets such as the Planck cosmic microwave background constraints, the Pantheon Type Ia supernova compilation, and the weak lensing results from the Dark Energy Survey. Taken together, these joint constraints all point to a broad consistency with the standard model of cosmology LCDM + GR, though they remain in tension with local measurements of the Hubble parameter.

  • Ground settlements induced by tunnel excavation cause the foundations of the neighboring building structures to deform. An expert system called NESASS( Neural network Expert System for Adjacent Structure Safety analysis) was developed to analyze the structural safety of such building structures. NESASS predicts the trend of ground settlements resulting from tunnel excavation and carries out a safety analysis for building structures on the basis of the predicted ground settlements. Using neural network technique. the NESASS learns the database consisting of the measured ground settlements collected from numerous actual fields and infers a settlement trend at the field of interest. The NESASS calculates the magnitudes of angular distortion, deflection ratio, and differential settlement of the structure. and in turn, determines the safety of the structure. In addition, the NESASS predicts the patterns of cracks to be formed in the structure, using Dulacska model for crack evaluation. In this study, the ground settlements measured from Seoul subway construction sites were collected and classified with respect to the major factors influencing ground settlement. Subsequently, a database of ground settlement due to tunnel excavation was built. A parametric study was performed to select the optimal neural network model for the database. A comparison of the ground settlement predicted by the NESASS with the measured ones indicates that the NESASS leads to reasonable predictions. The results of confidence evaluation for safety evaluation system of the NESASS are presented in this paper.

Effects of Root Gap on Residual Stresses and Deformation in the Multi-Pass Weld of Thick Plates for Steel Bridge (교량용 후판 다층용접시 잔류응력과 변형에 미치는 루트간격의 영향)

  • The effects of root gap on welding residual stress and deformation are dealt with the multi-pass weldment with three kinds(0, 6, 30mm) of root gap by F.E.M common code, and then compared with experiment data. In this analysis, an 100% ramp heat input model was used to avoid numerical convergence problem due to an instantaneous increase in temperature near the fusion zone, and the effect of a moving arc in a two dimensional plane was also included. During the analysis, a small time increment was applied in a period with instantaneous temperature fluctuation while a large time increment was used in the rest period. The residual stress is distributed as symmetric types and maximum value is also equivalent when the weldment with 0mm and 6mm root gap is welded. In the case of 30mm root gap welding, the distribution of the residual stress extends over a wide range as asymmetric types due to the built-up weld, and most of the residual stress is biased in the side of a built-up weld part. In case of 0mm gap welding and 6mm gap welding, a little angular distortion occurs, but the level of deformation is small. When the weldment with 30mm root gap is welded, the angular deformation of the asymmetric types, however, occurs larger than the other specimens. The experimental and the analytic results show good coincidence and indicate that the welding residual stress and deformation distribution of 30 mm root gap specimen may be asymmetric and the amplitude is larger than those of root gap specimen under standard.

A Study on LCMV Beamforming Method of Quadratic Pattern Constraints (2차패턴 구속의 LCMV 빔형성 방법 연구)

  • The STAP system suppresses clutter and jamming of the radar signal, but required a large number of samples for optimal performance. A large number of samples increases the signal processing computation. Therefore, there is need for a transformation method for reducing the signal rank. The LCMV beamforming method can easily set the distortion-free-constraint in the direction of arrival, and the beamforming scaling is excellent, so that overall rank can be reduced. In this study, the information of target is estimated using the proposed quadratic pattern constraints(QPC) and LCMV beamforming methods. The proposed method can perform beam pattern control in a desired direction according to the number of constraint conditions as a secondary pattern constraint condition. Through simulation, the performance of the propose method is verified. As a result on th simulation, the desired target was estimated when the proposed method had an angular resolution of 10 degrees or more, but it was not possible to accurately estimate the desired target when the angular resolution was less than 10 degrees.

A Study on the Mitigation of Welding Distortion of a Precision Component for Automobile Transmission (자동차 변속기용 정밀 부품의 용접변형 감소화에 관한 연구)

  • In recent years, a demand for precision-welding is increasing in wide industrial fields for getting a high quality welded structures. Although laser welding is commonly used for precision-welding, gas tungsten arc (GTA) welding is also attempted as a precision-welding due to the cost benefit. However, welding heat causes an uneven temperature distribution leading to welding deformation. Since it causes geometric errors and degrades product quality, welding distortion recently rises as an important issue in the field of automobile parts. To control welding deformation, it is needed to design in shapes that can maximize stiffness against deformation during welding; control the welding sequence; minimize heat input; and weld allowing reverse deformation; etc. Thus it is necessary to find the one, among such approaches, that can minimize the deformation range by mathematical analysis and understand how effective it would be when it is actually used in industrial fields. This study performs analyses by numerical calculations and experiments for the De-Tent Lever, one of transmission part that requires precision the most among automobile parts, as the subject of experiment. Decrease in welding deformation is required for this part, since there is currently a trouble in guaranteeing precision due to angular deformation by welding between boss and plate. Finally the ways to minimize welding deformation has been suggested in this study through analyses on it.

EFFECTS ON THE ENLARGEMENT RATIOS DUE TO CHANGES OF HEAD POSTURE ON LATERAL HEADFILMS (측두 규격방사선사진 촬영시 두부의 위치변화가 확대율에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was designed to evaluate the effects of angulation changes of head posture on the enlargement ratios of a lateral headfilm depending on the vortical or horizontal rotation of the objects. A device was constructed to measure regional changes of enlargement ratios. The device was held within the cephalostat and cephalograms recorded at each measured degrees of the device tilting, vertically and horizontally. The enlargement ratios of the horizontal, vertical, and angular measurements on the films taken at each tilted angulations were obtained and compared with those on the films taken without rotation. In summary, the enlargement ratios of the horizontal linear measurements were decreased during horizontal rotations. The enlargement ratios of vortical measurements of the right side on the film were increased and those of the left side were decreased by the horizontal rotations. Enlargement ratios of horizontal measurements were affected further than those of vertical measurements by the same angular changes of the horizontal rotations. Therefore, a disruption of parallelism between the object's midsagittal plane and the film could result in distortion of the image while vertical rotation around the object's porionic axis would not significantly affect the enlargement ratios on the headfilm.
