The suspension elements like primary coil spring, yaw damper, body to body damper are core parts of high speed railway bogie and the faults relating to these elements are reported recently. Thus, this study is started to analyze the displacements characteristics of suspension elements of high speed railway rolling-stock for the purpose of preventing the faults and developing the maintenance technology for suspension elements like spring and dampers. For this purpose, we made a plan to measure the displacements of the primary coil spring, yaw damper and body to body damper in actual running condition. We developed the measurement device to measure the longitudinal displacement and angular displacement of suspension elements and installed this device to test suspension elements. Test to measure displacements of suspension elements is conducted in service line of high speed railway. The displacement data which is acquired from the test with actual vehicles was analyzed for its maximum displacement depending on the track sections. As a result of analysis, we obtained the displacement trends occurring with the sections and valuable results like maximum values and the displacement distribution.

In this paper, we present the equations of motion by which the natural vibration of a rotating annular disk can be analyzed accurately. These equations are derived from the theory of finite deformation and the principle of virtual work. The radial displacements of annular disk at the steady state where the disk is rotating at a constant angular velocity are determined by non-linear static equations formulated with 1-dimensional finite elements in radial direction. The linearlized equations of the in-plane vibrations at the disturbed state are also formulated with 1-dimensional finite elements in radial direction along the number of nodal diameters. They are expressed as in functions of the radial displacements at the steady state and the disturbed displacements about the steady state. In-plane static deformation modes of an annular disk are used as the displacement functions for the interpolation functions of the 1-dimensional finite elements. The natural vibrations of an annular disk with different boundary conditions are analyzed by using the presented model and the 3-dimensional finite element model to verify accuracy of the presented equations of motion. Its results are compared and discussed.

In this study we presented kinematic and kinetic data of foot joints using approximated equations and partial plantar pressure during gait. The maximum angular displacements of each tarsometatarsal joint were found to range from 4$^{\circ}$to 7$^{\circ}$ and the maximum moments were from 200Nㆍcm to 1500Nㆍcm. It was relatively wide distribution. Foot kinematic data calculated from the approximated equations, which were represented by the correlation between moment and angular displacement, and the data from motion analysis were similar. We found that the movements of foot joint were mainly decided by the passive characteristics of the joint when ground reaction force acts. The method of kinematic and kinetic analysis using approximated equations which is presented in this study is considered useful to describe the movements of foot joints in gait simulations.
There are many functional methods for estimating the mean axis of rotation of a joint. However, it is still a controversial issue which method is superior. The purpose of this study was to compare functional methods for estimated axes of rotation from synthetic data. The comparison was made in terms of suitabilities on describing humans in sports. For a more practical situation, the axis error as well as measurement and marker movement error were applied to generated data. Simulations having 1000 times of 80 rotational displacements were performed. The functional methods used in the study were two transformation methods, two fitting methods, and one more transformation method called M. The M method is a combination of S$\ddot{o}$derk & Wedin(1993) and Mardia & Jupp(2000). Another factor of the study was angular velocity with levels of .01, .025, .05, .5 and 1 rad/s. The method M resulted in unbiased, stable, and consistent axis of rotation vectors in all levels of angular velocity except .01 rad/s. Therefore, the method M had the highest validity and reliability of all the methods. The fitting methods were very sensitive in small angular velocities and stable only in the velocities of more than .5 rad/s. The most suitable method for analyzing human motion by using marker photogrammetry is M.
Population concentration in urban areas has led traffic management a central issue. To mitigate traffic congestions, the government has planned to construct large-cross-section tunnels deep underground. This study focuses on estimating the damage caused to frame structures owing to tunnel excavation. When constructing a tunnel network deep underground, it is necessary to divide the main tunnel and connect the divergence tunnel to the ground surface. Ground settlement is caused by excavation of the adjacent divergence tunnel. Therefore, predicting ground settlement using diverse variables is necessary before performing damage estimation. We used the volume loss and cover-tunnel diameter ratio as the variables in this study. Applying the ground settlement values to the settlement induction device, we measured the extent of damage to frame structures due to displacement at specific points. The vertical and horizontal displacements that occur at these points were measured using preattached LVDT (Linear variable differential transformer), and the lateral strain and angular distortion were calculated using these displacements. The lateral strain and angular distortion are key parameters for structural damage estimation. A damage assessment chart comprises the "Negligible", "Very Slight Damage", "Slight Damage", "Moderate to Severe Damage", and "Severe to Very Severe Damage" categories was developed. This table was applied to steel frame and concrete frame structures for comparison.

In this study, the transverse and the torsional vibration analyses of a precision dynamic drive system with the magnetic coupling are accomplished. The force of the magnetic coupling is regarded as an equivalent transverse stiffness, which has a nonlinearity as a function of the gap and the eccentricity between a driver and a follower. Such an equivalent stiffness is calculated by and determined by the physical law and the calculated equivalent stiffness is modelled as the truss element. The form of the torque function transmitted through the magnetic coupling is a sinusoidal and such an equivalent angular stiffness, which represents the torque between a driver and a follower, is modelled as a nonlinear spring. The main spindle connected to a follower is assumed to a rigid body. And then finally we have the nonlinear partial differential equation with respect to the angular displacements. Through the procedure mentioned above, we accomplish the results of the torsional vibration analysis in a spindle system with the magnetic coupling.
A new type of modular mirror manipulator with independent adjustability was developed for the EPU6 beamline under construction at the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory. The mirror manipulator was designed so that the angular displacements of roll and pitch rotations do not introduce translational displacements and are independent with each other by positioning the mirror center to the center of a newly devised spherical joint. Manipulating its roll and pitch micrometers, the rotation angles of a dummy mirror were measured at an accuracy of 5 $\mu$rad using a gravity-referenced inclinometer. While the designed angular resolution was 3.937 $\mu$rad/$\mu\textrm{m}$, measured angular resolutions were 3.94 $\mu$rad/$\mu\textrm{m}$ for roll rotation and 3.85 $\mu$rad/$\mu\textrm{m}$ for pitch rotation. The effect of roll rotation on pitch angles was measured to be -3.18% and the effect of pitch rotation on roll angles was measured to be -5.21%. As the mirror manipulator was designed with emphases on independent adjustability and standardization, it results in eases of manufacturing, installation and adjustment as well as reductions of development period and design cost of mirror manipulators for various types of mirrors.
Purpose: This study was to investigate how dose the radiography findings are to magnetic resonance (MR) image findings in the L5-S1 instability patients. The subjects of this study were comprised of eleven males and fifteen females, who had Lumbago and agreed with this research. Methods: Radiography and MR images of Lumbar spine were acquired respectively from subjects in conditions of maximum flexion and extension. The horizontal and angular displacements in lumabosacral spine radiography were used to assess the instability of lumbar spine. MR images were also used to evaluate the intervertebral disc abnormalities and change of bone marrow. Results: The results are as follows. 1. In the case of flexion transitional displacement proposed by Dupuis et al, the specificity and negative predictive value were good accuracy ($0.7{\sim}0.8$), and the negative predictive value was in average. In the case of extension displacement, the negative predictive value was about average ($0.6{\sim}0.7$), but the sensitivity, specificity and positive predictive value were below the poor (<0.6). On the other side, the specificity was about average but other things were below in the case of angular displacement. 2. In the case of flexion transitional displacement proposed by Dupuis et al., compared with the intervertebral disc abnormalities, the negative prediction value was excellent, the sensitivity good, and the specificity about average. In the case of extension, the negative prediction value was about average, but the other things were poor. On the other side the specificity and negative predictive value had good accuracy and the sensitivity and positive prediction value were below average in the case of angular displacement. Conclusion: The above results show that the radiography finding is sufficiently helpful to find the lumbar spine instability as an economic point of view.
In this study, the human gait trajectories during normal walking were synthesized using the inverse kinematics and optimization techniques. The synthesis is based on a gait model consisting of a torso and two legs. Each let has three segments: thigh, shank, foot, and has six degrees-of-freedom. In order to synthesize trajectories of this redundant system, the sum of angular displacements of articulating joints was selected as an objective function to be minimized. The proposed algorithm in this study is very useful for the analysis of human gait. For the gait analysis, the trajectories of four points in each leg should be measured. Hpwever, by using the algorithm, measuring the trajectories of two points is sufficient, and thus the experimental set-up can be simplified.

Statistical differences between men and women are investigated for a total of eleven joint motions during level walking. Human locomotion which exhibits nonlinear dynamical behaviors is quantified by the chaos analysis. Time series of joint motions was obtained from gait experiments with ten young males and ten young females. Body motions were captured using eight video cameras, and the corresponding angular displacements of the neck and the upper body and lower extremity were computed by motion analysis software. The maximal Lyapunov exponents for eleven joints were calculated from attractors constructed and then were analyzed statistically by one-way ANOVA test to find any difference between the genders. This study shows that sexual differences in joint motions were statistically significant at the shoulder, knee and hip joints.
