X-ray mammography is the most effective method for the diagnosis of calcified lesions of various breast diseases. To reduce patient dose and to obtain optimal image required for diagnosis, the performance of the mammography system should be maintained continuously. Because the target (anode) angle of the X-ray tube is measured from the central X-ray, the effective angle can be slightly different in view of the position on the detector, which can result in degrading spatial resolution of the imaging within the field of view. In this study, we measured the MTF to examine spatial resolution for positions on the detector in the digital mammography system. For a tungsten wire of $50{\mu}m$ diameter, the highest spatial frequency was obtained. It meant that a wire diameter for measuring MTF through LSF should be small compared to the pixel size of the detector used in the mammography system. The spatial resolution showed slightly different performance according to positions on the detector. The center position gave the best spatial resolution and positions away from the center showed the degraded performance although the difference of the spatial resolution was small. The effective focal spot size of the full width at half maximum also showed similar result. It concluded that the slightly increase of the effective focal spot size gave the degradation of the spatial resolution for positions on the detector.
Artificial superlattices of Co/Pd were prepared by RF magnetron sputtering Multilayered structure and compositional modulation were analyzed with a side angle x-ray diffractometer. It has been found that expansion of Co lattice occured in this artificial superlattice due to the lattice mismatch between Co and Pd. Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy could be observed when the Co layer thickness became less than 8${\AA}$ and maximum coercivity of 2350 Oe could be obtained in [Co(2.5 ${\AA}$)/Pd(9.3 ${\AA})]_{50}$/Pd$(200\;{\AA})$ with a perfect squareness of magnetic hysteresis loop. Characteristic of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in Co/Pd superlattices could be related to the expansion of Co lattice caused by Pd layer and it turned out that as the thickness of Pd layer increased, perpendicular magnetic anisotropy increased. The interface anisotropy energy and volume anisotropy energy were calculated to be 0.29 ergs/$cm^2$ and -$6.9{\times}10^6$ ergs/$cm^3$ respectively, which are consistent with the values reported elsewhere.

In this thesis, a Synthetic Aperture Rarar Processor that is possible real-time handling is implemented using CW(Continuose Wave) laser as a light source, CCD(charge Coupled Device) as a time integrator, and AOD(Acousto-Optic Device) as the space integrator. One of the advantages of the proposed system is that it does not require driving circuits of the light source. To implement the system, the linear frequency modulation(chirp) technique has been used for radar signal. The received data for the unit target was processed using 7.80 board and accompanying electronic circuits. In order to reduce the smear effect of the focused chirp signal which occurs Bragg diffrection angle of the AOD has been utilized to make sharp pulses of the laser source, and the pulse made synchronized with the chirp signal. Experiment and analysis results of the data and images detected from CCD of the proposed SAR system demonstrated that detection effect is degrated as the unit target distance increases, and the resolving power is improved as the bandwidth of the chirp signal increases. Also, as the pulse width of the light source decreases, the smear effect has been reduced. The experimental results assured that the proposed system in this papre can be used as a real time SAR processor.

The nonlinear forward diffraction of a modulated wave train by a thin wedge has been studied analytically. Since the physical variables involved in the problem have vastly different scales, the multiple scale expansion method has been used to obtain an approximate solution. To simplify the problem. the wedge is assumed to be thin and the parabolic approximation is utilized. The wave evolution can be described by a kind of the cubic Schrodinger equation. which consists of the linear time evolution. the lateral dispersion and the nonlinearity. Numerical results indicate that the nonlinearity. which it defined by the ratio of the ratio of the incident wave to the wedge angle. governs the amplitude and the stability of diffracted waves. The instability of dirffracted waves becomes more pronounced as the nonlinearity increases and the modulation ratio decreases. It is also found that the stem waves. initially developed along the wedge. can not sustain for a long time.

This paper discusses the methods for reducing the sampling time quantization errors of the body dither type ring laser gyroscope. A ring laser gyroscope has the angle quantization error which is generated by the frequency counting method of the laser beat signal and sampling time quantization error which is generated by the demodulation method for eliminating the body dithering in which the sampling periods are fitted to the dither periods. Generally, because the dither periods are longer than the calculation periods of the inertial navigation system, vehicle navigation errors are produced by long time attitude update missing during the vehicle move with a high dynamical motion. In this paper, the double demodulation method is proposed for reducing the sampling time quantization error and its effects under the dynamic situation are confirmed by simulation.
An original sensor system based on Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG) for the strain monitoring of an adaptive wing element is presented in this paper. One of the main aims of the SARISTU project is in fact to measure the shape of a deformable wing for performance optimization. In detail, an Adaptive Trailing Edge (ATE) is monitored chord- and span-wise in order to estimate the deviation between the actual and the desired shape and, then, to allow attaining a prediction of the real aerodynamic behavior with respect to the expected one. The integration of a sensor system is not trivial: it has to fit inside the available room and to comply with the primary issue of the FBG protection. Moreover, dealing with morphing structures, large deformations are expected and a certain modulation is necessary to keep the measured strain inside the permissible measure range. In what follows, the mathematical model of an original FBG-based structural sensor system is presented, designed to evaluate the chord-wise strain of an Adaptive Trailing Edge device. Numerical and experimental results are compared, using a proof-of-concept setup. Further investigations aimed at improving the sensor capabilities, were finally addressed. The elasticity of the sensor structure was exploited to enlarge both the measurement and the linearity range. An optimisation process was then implemented to find out an optimal thickness distribution of the sensor system in order to alleviate the strain level within the referred component.

The perception of flicker on the computer display devices depends upon the temporal waveform of the phosphor decay characteristic, the frame rate, and the display size. The lowest frequency at which flicker is not perceived is called the critical fusion frequency or critical frequency. Critical fusion frequency is evaluated by the display illuminance and the modulation (m) defined as the ratio of the amplitude of first harmonic frequency to the DC of the waveform. In this paper, we analyze the relationship bet ween the critical fusion frequency, relating to the decay characteristic of the phosphors and luminance on the monitor, and the frame frequency. Also under considering the viewing angle, we presented the frame frequency that is less sensitive to the full size of the display device.
In this paper, an extremely low voltage operated micro corner cube retroreflector (CCR) was fabricated for free-space optical communication applications by using bulk silicon micromachining technologies. The CCR was comprised of an orthogonal vertical mirror and a horizontal actuated mirror. For low voltage operation, the horizontal actuated mirror was designed with two PZT cantilever actuators, torsional bars, hinges, and a mirror plate with a size of $400{\mu}m{\times}400{\mu}m$. In particular, the torsional bars and hinges were carefully simulated and designed to secure the flatness of the mirror plate by using a finite element method (FEM) simulator. The measured tilting angle was approximately $2^{\circ}$ at the applied voltage of 5 V. An orthogonal vertical mirror with an extremely smooth surface texture was fabricated using KOH wet etching and a double-SOI (silicon-on-insulator) wafer with a (110) silicon wafer. The fabricated orthogonal vertical mirror was comprised of four pairs of two mutually orthogonal flat mirrors with $400{\mu}m4 (length) $\times400{\mu}m$ (height) $\times30{\mu}m$ (thickness). The cross angles and surface roughness of the orthogonal vertical mirror were orthogonal, almost $90^{\circ}$ and 3.523 nm rms, respectively. The proposed CCR was completed by combining the orthogonal vertical and horizontal actuated mirrors. Data transmission and modulation at a frequency of 10 Hz was successfully demonstrated using the fabricated CCR at a distance of approximately 50 cm.
This paper uses the switching function approach to present a simple state model of the Vienna-type rectifier. The approach introduces the relationship between the DC-link neutral point voltage and the AC side phase currents. A novel direct power control (DPC) strategy, which is based on the sliding mode control (SMC) for Vienna I rectifiers, is developed using the proposed power model in the stationary ${\alpha}-{\beta}$ reference frames. The SMC-based DPC methodology directly regulates instantaneous active and reactive powers without transforming to a synchronous rotating coordinate reference frame or a tracking phase angle of grid voltage. Moreover, the required rectifier control voltages are directly calculated by utilizing the non-linear SMC scheme. Theoretically, active and reactive power flows are controlled without ripple or cross coupling. Furthermore, the fixed-switching frequency is obtained by employing the simplified space vector modulation (SVM). SVM solves the complicated designing problem of the AC harmonic filter. The simplified SVM is based on the simplification of the space vector diagram of a three-level converter into that of a two-level converter. The dwelling time calculation and switching sequence selection are easily implemented like those in the conventional two-level rectifier. Replacing the current control loops with power control loops simplifies the system design and enhances the transient performance. The simulation models in MATLAB/Simulink and the digital signal processor-controlled 1.5 kW Vienna-type rectifier are used to verify the fast responses and robustness of the proposed control scheme.
In order to achieve the low complexity and area, power in the design of Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) suitable for the smart phone, this paper presents the following design explorations, such as; optimization of gyroscope sampling rate, simple and accurate gyroscope filters, and reduced operating frequency of motion compensation, optimized bit width in ADC and DAC, evaluation of noise effects due to PWM driving. In experiments of gyroscope sampling frequencies, it is found that error values are unvaried in the frequency above 5KHz. The gyroscope filter is efficiently designed by combining the Fuzzy algorithm, to illustrate the reasonable compensation for the angle and phase errors. Further, in the PWM design, the power consumption of 2MHz driving is shown to decrease up to 50% with respect to the linear driving, and the imaging noises are reduced in the driving frequency above 2MHz driving frequency. The operating frequency could be reduced to 5KHz in controller and 10KHz in driver, respectively, in the motion compensation. For ADC and DAC, the optimized exploration experiments verify the minimum bit width of 11bits in ADC as well as 10bits in DAC without the performance degradation.
