A Study on the Visual Image by Pattern Drafting of Tailored Collar (Tailored Collar 패턴 제도법에 따른 시각적 이미지 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to give the guideline to the pattern designing by supplying various images of the transformed shape of tailored collar with the location and angle of gorge line and laying measurement of the tailored collar while designing the tailored collar. The results of this study are as follows : Images of the sample at the case of 1cm of laying measurement looks 'urban', 'light', 'sharp', 'young', 'fashionable' and 'narrow' than that at the case of 7cm. When the laying measurement increases, the image of the sample looks more 'classical' and 'boorish'. The image of the sample 'light', 'sensuous' and 'young' at the case of sample of which laying measurements of the collar was 3cm. Second, at the case of sample whose laying measurements of the collar was 5cm, it was shown that the low location of gorge line made the image of the sample 'soft' and 'short'. On the other hand the image of the sample looked 'hard', 'keen' and 'long' by the high location of gorge line. Third, at the case of sample of which laying measurements of the collar was 7cm, low location of gorge line made the image of the sample look short. However, normal location of gorge line made the image of the sample looked 'fashionable'. The images of the samples of which laying measurements of the collar were 3cm, 5cm and 7cm, respectively, had changed with the angle of gorge line. First, the high angle of gorge line made the image of the sample 'rigid' and 'keen' at the case of sample of which laying measurements of the collar was 3cm. The high angle of gorge line made the image of the sample looked 'boorish' and 'singular'.

Reliability and Validity of the Femorotibial Mechanical Axis Angle in Primary Total Knee Arthroplasty: Navigation versus Weight Bearing or Supine Whole Leg Radiographs

  • Purpose: To evaluate the reliability and validity of the femorotibial mechanical axis angle from radiographs in the weight bearing (WB) and supine positions compared with navigation-measured values. Materials and Methods: Sixty-eight cases of navigation-assisted total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were included. The pre- and postoperative whole leg radiographs (WLRs) in WB and supine positions were compared with the initial and final navigation values. Results: The mean mechanical axis angle from the preoperative WBWLR and navigation were not statistically different (p=0.079) and were correlated strongly with each other (intraclass correlation [ICC], 0.818). However, on postoperative measurements, although the WBWLR and navigation values were not different (p=0.098), they were not correlated with each other (ICC, 0.093). The standard error of measurement was $1.8^{\circ}{\pm}3.6^{\circ}$ for the preoperative WBWLR and $2.5^{\circ}{\pm}4.8^{\circ}$ for the postoperative WBWLR. The validity that was determined by the Bland-Altman plot was not acceptable for both pre- and postoperative measurements. Conclusions: The preoperative WBWLR could provide accurate but not precise measurement value of the femorotibial mechanical axis angle for navigation-assisted TKA, and postoperative measurements in navigation were not comparable with radiographic measurements. The lack of agreement was found between the radiographic and navigation measurements of the coronal alignment regardless of pre- or postoperative evaluation although the accuracy was found acceptable. Effects of Backward Walking Training with a Weighted Bag Carried on the Front on Craniocervical Alignment and Gait Parameters in Young Adults with Forward Head Posture: A case series

  • Purpose : This case study aimed to investigate the effects of backward walking exercises with a front-loaded bag on craniovertebral angle (CVA), craniorotational angle (CRA), and gait variables in subjects with forward head posture (FHP). Methods : Two individuals in their twenties with FHP performed backward walking exercises on a treadmill while carrying a front-loaded bag with a load equivalent to 20 % of their body weight, for 30 minutes per day, three times a week, over two weeks. CVA and CRA were measured before and after the intervention using side view photographs taken from 1.5 meters away. CVA was calculated by marking C7, the tragus of the ear, and the outer canthus of the eye, and CRA was determined using the same landmarks. Image J software was used for angle analysis, with measurements taken three times and averaged. Gait variables such as step length and cadence were recorded using a step analysis treadmill and analyzed with the software included with the equipment, with measurements taken at baseline and after the two-week intervention. Results : Both participants demonstrated notable improvements in the CVA, indicating enhanced head alignment relative to the cervical spine. There was also a marked decrease in the CRA, suggesting a reduction in rotational misalignment. Although differences were observed in gait variables, such as step length and cadence, these changes were not consistent across measurements. The results suggest that backward walking exercises with a load carried in front can positively influence postural adjustments by aligning the cervical spine in individuals with FHP. Conclusion : The findings of this case study indicate that backward walking exercises with a front-loaded bag can effectively improve cervical spine alignment in individuals with FHP. Differences were observed in gait variables, such as step length and cadence, but these changes were not consistent across measurements. Future studies should explore these effects more comprehensively and consider optimizing the exercise protocol for better therapeutic outcomes.

  • In the conventional AOA(angle-of-arrival) positioning utilizing reverse-link wireless channel, each sensor should be equipped with an array antenna to measure the incident angle of signal transmitting from a tag. To perform the complicated signal processing for angle measurements, sensor size and its power consumption will be large. In some applications like mobile robot location, there exists no strict restriction in tag size or in power consumption. Rather, it is desirable that the sensor would be as small as possible. This paper presents a new AOA positioning method utilizing forward-link channel. Under the assumption that the mobile robot is operating on the flat surface, the measurement model for FLAOA(tiJrward-link AOA) is derived first. Two kinds of position estimation algorithms using FLAOA measurements are proposed; Gauss-Newton method and closed-fonn solution method. With the proposed methods, we can ohtain the attitude of robot as well as its position. Positioning performance of proposed methods is compared by computer simulation. Simulation results show that the closed-form solution method using FLAOA measurements is suitable for indoor robot positioning.

Effects of Deep Cervical Flexors Strengthening Exercise on Cervical-Shoulder Angle, Disability index and pain and in Patients with Chronic Neck Pain (깊은목굽힘근 강화운동이 만성 목통증 환자의 통증과 목-어깨각도, 장애지수 및 통증에 미치는 영향)

  • Background: The purpose of this study on the effects of deep cervical flexors strengthening exercise to forward head posture and pain of neck in patients with chronic neck pain. Method: We selected 30 subjects among neck pain patients and carried out measurements. The subjects' forward head posture was measured including head tilt angle (HTA), neck flexion angle (NFA) and forward shoulder angle (FSA), neck disability index (NDI), numeric rating scale (NRS). The subjects underwent deep cervical flexors muscle strengthening with pressure bio-feedback device for 4 weeks. Then, after intervention, the subjects' forward head posture was measured again. It was performed Wilcoxon signed-ranks test for confirming the effect of deep cervical flexor muscles strengthening exercise. Results: As a result of comparison of measurements before and after intervention, we found that there were statistically significant improvement in the subjects' NDI, NRS and forward head posture including head tilt angle, neck flexion angle and forward shoulder angle. Conclusion: We concluded that deep cervical flexors strengthening exercise has the effect of alleviation of neck pain patients and is effective for forward head posture.

  • This study was purpose to evaluation of Modulation Transfer Function in Measurements by using the International electrotechnical commission standard(IEC 62220-1) which were edge device each angle by using edge method. In this study was Aero(Konica, Japan) image receptor which is a indirect Flat panel detector(FPD) was used. The size of matrix 1994 × 2430 (14"× 17" inch) which performed 12 bit processing and pixel pitch is 175 ㎛. The results of shown as MTF measurements at IEC standard. The amount of data seemed reasonable and at an MTF value of 0.1 the spatial frequencies were 2.56 cycles/mm at an angle of 2.4°. MTF value of 0.5 the spatial frequencies were 1.32 cycles/mm at an angle of 2.4°. This study were to evaluate MTF by setting each angle 2.0°~2.8° degrees the most effective optimal edge angle and to suggest the quantitative methods of measuring by using IEC.

Relation of the measuring values in cephalometric radiographs and TMJ tomographs (두부규격방사선사진과 측두하악관절 단층방사선사진 계측치간의 상관관계)

  • Purpose : To examine whether the maxillofacial skeletal morphology correlates with the condylar position and the anatomic characteristics of articular eminence using measurements of lateral cephalometric radiographs and individualized sagittal temporomandibular joint (TMJ) tomographs. Materials and Methods : I compared measurements of 202 TMJs of 101 orthodontic patients of Kangnung National University Dental Hospital. 1 used Pearson's correlation for comparison of the measuring values in lateral cephalometric radiographs and individualized sagittal TMJ tomographs. Results : Large occlusal plane angle tendency showed decreased width of posterior eminence slope, decreased depth of articular fossa and decreased posterior slope angle of eminence. Large mandibular plane angle tendency showed decreased superior joint space, decreased depth of articular fossa and decreased posterior slope angle of eminence. Large genial angle tendency showed decreased depth of articular fossa, decreased posterior slope angle of eminence and anterior position of condylar head. Large anterior facial height and large posterior facial height tendency showed increased width of posterior slope of eminence, increased depth of articular fossa, increased posterior slope angle of eminence and posterior position of condylar head. Conclusion : Maxillofacial skeletal morphology has correlation with the anatomic characteristics of TMJ. Individualized sagittal TMJ tomographs can provide useful information for anatomical analysis of TMJ.

Comparison of the Results between Cadaveric and Radiological Measurements of Calcaneus (종골의 사체 실측 결과와 방사선학적 측정 결과의 비교)

  • Purpose: We wanted to compare the results between cadaveric and radiological measurements of calcaneus. Materials and Methods: Sixty three calcaneus of 33 cadavers donated between December 2012 and December 2014 were actually measured. Computed tomography (CT) images of 244 calcaneus in 122 patients of the same age group with cadavers were radiologically measured. Maximum length, maximum width, maximum height, $B{\ddot{o}}hler$ angle, Gissane angle, Fowler-Phillip angle, and tala-articular angle were measured. Results: In cadaveric measurement, the mean maximal height, length, and width were $41.8{\pm}3.3mm$, $73.3{\pm}3.4mm$, and $40.7{\pm}2.2mm$, respectively. In radiological measurement, the mean maximal height, length, and width were $38.5{\pm}4.3mm$, $74.0{\pm}5.7mm$, and $44.7{\pm}1.4mm$, respectively. In cadaveric measurement, the mean $B\ddot{o}hler$ angle, Gissane angle, Fowler-Phillip angle, and tala-articular angle were $32.1^{\circ}{\pm}6.2^{\circ}$, $110.8^{\circ}{\pm}8.1^{\circ}$, $55.8^{\circ}{\pm}6.8^{\circ}$, and $59.7^{\circ}{\pm}4.6^{\circ}$, respectively. In radiological measurement the mean $B{\ddot{o}}hler$ angle, Gissane angle, Fowler-Phillip angle, and tala-articular angle were $32.6^{\circ}{\pm}3.8^{\circ}$, $113.7^{\circ}{\pm}5.7^{\circ}$, $62.2^{\circ}{\pm}3.9^{\circ}$, and $61.6^{\circ}{\pm}6.3^{\circ}$, respectively. The mean maximal height was significantly higher in the cadaveric measurement group (p<0.001) and the mean maximal length and width were significantly higher in the radiologic measurement group (p<0.001, p<0.001). The mean Gissane angle, Fowler-Philip angle, and $B{\ddot{o}}hler$ angle were significantly higher in the CT group (p=0.001, p<0.001, p=0.016, respectively). There was no significant difference in the mean tala-articular angle (p=0.352). Conclusion: Significant differences in length parameters were observed between the cadaveric measurement group and the radiologic measurement group. However, no significant differences in angular measurements were observed between the two groups. The authors carefully conclude that radiological measurement values may be different from actual values in the calcaneus.

A LATERAL CEPHALOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF THE KOREAN ADULT NOSE IN ANGLE'S CLASS I OCCLUSION (Angle's class I 교합의 한국인 성인 코에 두부방사선 계측학적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to establish a set of standard values for the form of the nose and its relationship to other craniofacial structures in young korean adults in angle's class I occlusion. The subjects were 40 (20 male, 20 female) Korean dental students in angle's class I occlusion. Lateral cephalometric radiographs were used to determine the form of the nose and its positon relative to other craniofacial structures. The results were obtained as followed. 1. There was a significance between the registered male and female measurements in nasal height(P<0.05). (Male: 58.23mm Female : 54.62mm) 2. There was a significance between the registered male and female measurements in nasal length(P<0.05). (Male : 54.18mm Female : 49.38mm) 3. The vertical distances from the tip of the nose in Korean adults were significantly greater in the male(P<0.05) and were smaller in both sex in comparison with caucasian.

Characterization of Silk Fibroin/S-carboxymethyl Kerateine Surfaces: Evaluation of Biocompatibility by Contact Angle Measurements

  • Surface characterization of materials has been considered critical in the development of biomaterials, as many unfavorable responses from the body occur at the interface between a material and the body component. The contact angle measurement is one means to characterize the surface properties and to correlate them to the biocompatibility of materials. In this paper, surface characteristics of silk fibroin/S-carboxymethyl kerateine, representative fibrous proteins, were investigated by contact angle measurements of ESCA. The biocompatibility of the blends was evaluated based on minimal interfacial free energy concept, and compared with other potential biomaterials. It was also hypothesized that the enhanced surface polarity of the blends was generated from the conformational transition of proteins. This approach to evaluate the biocompatibility of materials based on surface characteristics may find wide utility in many biomedical applications.
