Experimental study of the torsion of reinforced concrete members

  • This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on the behaviour of 56 reinforced concrete beams subjected to pure torsion. The reported results include the behaviour curves, the failure modes and the values of the pre-cracking torsional stiffness, the cracking and ultimate torsional moments and the corresponding twists. The influence of the volume of stirrups, the height to width ratios and the arrangement of longitudinal bars on the torsional behaviour is discussed. In order to describe the entire torsional behaviour of the tested beams, the combination of two different analytical models is used. The prediction of the elastic till the first cracking part is achieved using a smeared crack analysis for plain concrete in torsion, whereas for the description of the post-cracking response the softened truss model is used. A simple modification to the softened truss model to include the effect of confinement is also attempted. Calculated torsional behaviour of the tested beams and 21 beams available in the literature are compared with the experimental ones and a very good agreement is observed.

  • The fully digitalized inverter has some difficulties in implementation because of the limitation of available memory capacity and computation time. In this paper schemes suitable for a one-chip microprocessor-based realization, which linearize notch angles of selected harmonic elimination (SHE) PWM, are presented. Also the detailed description of the scheme along with the realization is described. The simulation and experiment results show that proposed schemes have the predicted advantages such as good voltage waveforms and a memory-saving.

  • Two angle-shaped extrusions have been studied in order to analyze the bending effect of the extruded product using the three-dimensional rigid-plastic finite element method. The velocity distribution at the outlet becomes the source for the construction of the bending configuration of the final product. in which an analytic scheme has been developed for the description of the bending. A systematic approach presented here appears to have sound agreement with the experimental result, and has been applied to a large extrusion of aluminum alloy.

Model Development of Flexible Disk Grinding Process

  • A flexible disk grinding process model was developed based on the dynamic relationship proposed by Kurfess and the influence of the major system parameters which potentially affect the grinding process was studied. Due to the process complexities, several new parameters were assumed to be kinematically dependent on the geometric layouts of the process. Different process stages had been defined depending on the kinematic relationships between the grinding disk and workpiece. A trend of depth of cut was simulated using the proposed model and compared with the empirically measured data in two dimensions. Due to a poor prediction capability of the first model, a modified model was proposed and a better performance has been proved to reveal a closer description of processed surface quality. Also a deflection length has been verified using a different analytical approach.

설상형 종골 골절의 부정 유합 후에 발생한 Haglund씨 증후군 - 3례 보고 - (Late Sequelae of Secondary Haglund's Syndrome after Malunion of Tongue Type Calcaneus Fracture - Report of Three Cases -)

  • Haglund's syndrome produces retrocalcaneal bursitis or achilles tendinitis due to impingement of posterior superior bursal projection of calcaneus on insertional fibers of achilles tendon. Haglund's syndrome has been mainly associated with wearing rigid counter shoes and with athletes. We experienced three case of late sequelae of secondary Haglund's syndrome after malunion of tongue type calcaneus fracture. It is to be the first description of secondary Haglund's syndrome after calcaneus malunion and also the first report as the late complication of calcaneus fractures. Three cases were all tongue type intraarticular fractures and were treated with $45^{\circ}$ superior angle resection of superior calcaneal tuberosity. Clinical results by modified Rowe score were excellent with complete pain relief for all three cases.

연결극점을 이용한 다중로봇의 대형유지 (Formation-Keeping of Multiple Robots using Chained-Poles)

  • We propose a formation-keeping and changing methods for outdoor multiple mobile robots in chained form. Our proposed method is designed to maintain the follower to its desired distance and orientation with respect to the pole using the concept of virtual force such as potential field. The client robots use a behavior-based control to perform kinematic control to keep formation under the centralized system in our software framework. The relationship of each poles that is expressed by set of distance and angle is the description of the formation type and the type converting is performed using this set. In addition, we also examine the stability and capability in the simulation and experiments with real robots.

Description of the External Genitalia and Uterus of a 24-month-old Freemartin Hanwoo

  • We observed the external genitalia and uterus of a 24-month-old freemartin Hanwoo. The vulva was smaller than observed in a normal female Hanwoo, while the clitoris was larger in the freemartin. The angle between the external genitalia and the perineum also varied. Upon internal genital examination, the uterus of the freemartin was a thin tube approximately 18 cm in size and had not differentiated into a normal uterus and uterine horns.

  • 본 논문에서는 신호의 반 파장 간격으로 안테나 소자를 배치한 빔형성 시스템에서 다이버시티 이득을 얻을 수 있는 빔형성 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안된 알고리즘은 수신 신호 공간을 스팬(span)하는 고유 벡터들을 이용하여 빔형성 한다. 본 논문에서는 채널 추정을 위한 최적의 고유 공간 차수를 정하기 위한 기준도 제안한다. 제안된 알고리즘을 적용한 빔형성 시스템은 기존의 빔형성 시스템과는 달리 각 퍼짐이 증가함에 따라 다이버시티 이득을 얻어 그 성능이 개선된다. 본 논문은 제안된 알고리즘의 설명과 함께 다양한 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통한 제안 알고리즘의 성능 분석을 제공한다.

Geometric Regualrization of Irregular Building Polygons: A Comparative Study

  • 3D buildings are the most prominent feature comprising urban scene. A few of mega-cities in the globe are virtually reconstructed in photo-realistic 3D models, which becomes accessible by the public through the state-of-the-art online mapping services. A lot of research efforts have been made to develop automatic reconstruction technique of large-scale 3D building models from remotely sensed data. However, existing methods still produce irregular building polygons due to errors induced partly by uncalibrated sensor system, scene complexity and partly inappropriate sensor resolution to observed object scales. Thus, a geometric regularization technique is urgently required to rectify such irregular building polygons that are quickly captured from low sensory data. This paper aims to develop a new method for regularizing noise building outlines extracted from airborne LiDAR data, and to evaluate its performance in comparison with existing methods. These include Douglas-Peucker's polyline simplication, total least-squared adjustment, model hypothesis-verification, and rule-based rectification. Based on Minimum Description Length (MDL) principal, a new objective function, Geometric Minimum Description Length (GMDL), to regularize geometric noises is introduced to enhance the repetition of identical line directionality, regular angle transition and to minimize the number of vertices used. After generating hypothetical regularized models, a global optimum of the geometric regularity is achieved by verifying the entire solution space. A comparative evaluation of the proposed geometric regulator is conducted using both simulated and real building vectors with various levels of noise. The results show that the GMDL outperforms the selected existing algorithms at the most of noise levels.

효율적인 신호개수 추정을 위한 빔공간 기반 AIC 및 MDL 알고리즘 (AIC & MDL Algorithm Based on Beamspace, for Efficient Estimation of the Number of Signals)

  • 도래각 추정, 간섭제거, 신호 수신 등을 위해 수신신호에 포함되는 신호의 개수를 정확히 파악하는 것이 필요하다. 대표적인 신호 개수 추정 알고리즘으로 AIC(: Akaike Information Criterion)와 MDL(: Minimum Description Length) 알고리즘이 있는데, 이들 알고리즘은 각 기준이 최소화되는 값을 찾아 신호의 개수를 추정한다. 수신기의 배열 안테나 요소 개수가 증가하면 추정 성능이 향상되지만, 최소값을 찾기 위해 모든 안테나 요소에 대한 기준값을 계산하여야 하므로 복잡도가 크게 증가한다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해, 본 논문에서는 빔공간 처리를 통해 차원을 축소시켜 계산량을 줄이면서 효율적으로 신호의 개수를 추정할 수 있는 빔공간 기반의 AIC와 MDL 알고리즘을 제안한다. 또한, 다양한 시나리오 기반의 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안된 알고리즘의 성능을 평가하고 분석한다.
