Solutions for Adjusting SELinux To Android-Powered Devices (안드로이드 응용 단말기를 위한 SELinux 환경설정 방법)

  • Google Android framework consists of an operating system and software platform for mobile devices. Using a general-purpose Linux operating system in mobile device has some advantages but also security risks. Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) is a kernel-based protection approach which can help to reduce potential damage from successful attacks. However, there are some challenges to integrate SELinux in Android. In this research, we do a study on how to do the integration and find out four challenges. The first one is that the Android file system (yaff2) does not support security namespace for extended attribute (xattr) which is required by SELinux. The second one is that it's difficult to apply SELinux policy to Dalvik process on which an Android application runs on. The third one is that Android lacks methods, tools and libraries to interact with SELinux. The last one is how to update the SELinux policy automatically when installing or removing an application. In this paper, we propose solutions for the above limitations that make the SELinux more adaptive and suitable for Android framework.

  • In this paper, we design and implement a political online platform using smartphones. This platform is consisted of monitoring of members of the National Assembly, monitoring of legislation, and participating in several issues. It is implemented as an AWS server, DB and an Android applications. Especially, we update the political information in real time by using Open API and Naver API. This system will be well applied to the division in discussion and sharing of thinking about legislation and political issues.

  • In this paper, we propose a mobile image retrieval system which utilizes the mobile device's sensor information and enables running in a variety of the environments, and implement the system on Android platform. The proposed system deals with a new image descriptor using combination of the visual feature with EXIF attributes in the target of JPEG image, and image matching algorithm which is optimized to the mobile environments. Experiments are performed on the Android platform, and the experimental results revealed that the proposed algorithm exhibits a significant improved results with large image database.

  • Embedded System operates hardware installed like processor, memory device, various input/output devices and software to control them. This thesis presents MPU module and Base board which are efficient industrial control through design and manufacture as developing S5PV210 CPU of SAMSUNG used by ARM Cortex-A8 based on Android which is Open mobile platform is installed to embedded system. Data for temperature and humidity which are received by CAN communication module proved the suitability and validity for the embedded platform design as implementing application program employed the native App with Linux Kernel based on the Android OS and application of HTML5.

A User-Centric Response Time Analyzer for Improving User Experience of Android Applications (스마트폰 응용 프로그램의 사용자 경험 향상을 위한 사용자 중심 반응 시간 분석 도구)

  • We propose a novel user-perceived performance optimization framework for the Android platform that takes advantage of the user-centric response time analysis. To this end, we propose a new definition of response time, which we call the user-centric response time, as a metric for the quality of user-perceived performance of the smartphone application. In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of an on-line user-centric response time analyzer for Android-based smartphones, which provides smartphone application developers with valuable insight for user-perceived performance optimization. We implemented the user-centric response time analyzer on the Android platform, version 4.0.4 (ICS) running on a Galaxy Nexus smartphone. From our experimental results, the proposed user-centric response time analyzer accurately estimates user-centric response times with an accuracy of 92.0% compared to manually measured times with less than 1% performance penalty. In order to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed framework, we were able to reduce the user-centric response time of the target application by up to 16.4% based on the evaluation results by the proposed framework.

  • Recently, the need to introduce smart farms is increasing in order to solve the problems of intensifying competition such as a decrease in rural population due to aging, a decrease in production, and the inflow of foreign agricultural products, and accordingly, the need for education is increasing. This paper is a study on the implementation of an Android-based IoT smart farm for education so that it can be used in a real environment by reducing the farm's smart farm system. To confirm that Android-based education can be applied in a real environment using the IoT smart farm for education, experiments were performed in automatic mode and manual mode using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and server/client communication methods. In the automatic mode, the current status can be checked in real time by receiving all data, and in the manual mode, commands are transmitted in real time using the received sensor data and remote control is performed. As a result of the experiment, it was possible to understand the characteristics of each communication method, and it was confirmed that remote monitoring and remote control of the smart farm using the Android App was possible.

Design and Implementation of Key Frame Sharing Application in Android Using Chord Protocol

  • Due to the popularity of mobile phones, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) content sharing in mobile phones is highly desirable, especially in a mobile data connection. In addition, there has been an increasing demand for content sharing applications for P2P communication in Android-based smartphones as ubiquitous mobile devices. However, due to wireless network limits, unstable characteristic and restricted storage space, mobile users confront challenges in establishing connections and sharing video frames with other users. To solve this issue, we propose an architectural design and implementation of key frame sharing application that uses Chord, a distributed lookup protocol to establish a content sharing platform for mobile devices, combined with the Chord SDK based on Android. Our proposed system enables users easily to share key information on video data in real-time over a wireless network without manual processing of devices which join or leave the group and cost associated with the 3G/4G network.

  • With the development of smartphone technologies enable photoplethysmogram (PPG) acquisition by camera and heart rate (HR) measurement. This papers presents improved algorithm to extract HR from PPG signal recorded by smartphone camera and to develop real-time PPG signal processing Android application. 400 video samples recorded by Samsung smartphone camera are imported as input data for further processing and evaluating algorithm on MATLAB. An optimized algorithm is developed and tested on Android platform with different kind of Samsung smartphones. To assess algorithm's performance, medical device Beurer BC08 is used as reference. According to related works, accuracy parameters includes 90% number of samples that has relative errors less than 5%, Person correlation (r) more than 0.9, and standard estimated error (SEE) less than 5 beats-per-minutes (bpm).
