The Impact of Wireless Data Technologies in New Zealand: A Study of New Zealand Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises

  • The rapidly improving price-performance of wireless technologies is providing an unprecedented platform for the development of wireless applications for the business. Such applications are able to take advantage of a new paradigm of mobility for data services, with the ability to sensitize to location, time and personal features. While big business has been a central feature of wireless implementation, it is now clear that small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are beginning to take advantage of the strategic benefits of wireless data communications. This study examines the state-of-the-art of wireless data services in New Zealand. It provides a survey of 127 current applications in use, as well as two short illustrative cases of application use. The paper rounds off with a summary and conclusions.

  • This study is to design the web-based educational setting in industry to test the effectiveness of online teaching in Korea. Especially this study focuses on the impact of information technology on educational influence on employees in small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) because these experimental settings are differed from universities or large firms often called Jaebaels. The findings of the study are summarized as education setting especially personalization content materials greatly influences on the speed and quality of employees' learning. Also the positive attitudes of employees toward the learning environment correlate to the effectiveness of online learning in SME.

  • Domestic industry calamity rate did decrease in large numbers by many efforts of the safety and health organizations. But that is low yet among the OECD countries. Calamities are started In most work inexperience and safety consciousness absence. So, we can know that education is how important. Domestic small and medium enterprises are in trend that industrial accident is increased by deterioration of hardware, not enough preparedness of safety equipments. But, the safety and health education had not been utilized so far effectively and applied systematically. Therefore, the most important among many means to reduce calamity is the safety and health education. An efficient education will supply suitable knowledge and technology to work people. And that will lead to prevent accident by building right habit and attitude. This research did the survey about problems of education that is enforced in small and medium enterprises. That survey is done to three groups of workers, administrators and managers. We compared domestic safety and health education system and advanced foreign system. And, analyzed problems and presented a solution. Finally, this research presented efficient operation model of the safety and health education suitable to domestic medium and small enterprises.

  • 현재 우리나라 중소기업은 혁신역량이 부족한 영세기업의 비중이 높고, 매출 규모가 건실한 기업군이 취약한 구조로 발전을 기대하기 어려운 상황이다. 따라서 정부 3.0을 기반으로 한 중소기업의 빅 데이터 활용방안을 제시한다. 정부 3.0을 기반으로 중소기업의 활성화를 위한 정부지원 빅 데이터 활용 방안을 제시한다. 정부3.0을 기반으로 빅 데이터 인프라를 중소기업과 중소 벤처들이 자유롭게 이용할 수 있는 개방형 빅 데이터 서비스 플랫폼의 구축이 반드시 필요하다.

  • Most of enterprises use various applications for serving their routine business. One of most widespread applications is the enterprise resource planning (ERP). This paper focuses on open source ERP software and aims to find out what benefits it can bring to small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) comparing to proprietary ERP. To serve the purpose, this paper introduces the successful adoption of open source ERP software through the case study of small Vietnamese firm. The results of this paper show the advantage of open source ERP software and the possibility of adoption for SME.

  • This study emphasizes R&D as a management strategy for small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) to achieve competitive advantage and aims to analyze the impact of innovation resistance, prior knowledge, and technological capability on the intention to adopt R&D. The research targeted 403 decision-makers from SMEs that have not adopted R&D. The analysis revealed the following key findings: As a result, both technical capabilities and prior knowledge had a negative effect on innovation resistance. In addition, technological capabilities and prior knowledge had a positive effect on adoption intention, and innovation resistance had a negative effect on acceptance intention. The indirect effects of technical capabilities and prior knowledge both had a positive impact. In addition, we tested whether dependency on partners and trading organizations that accepted R&D had a moderating effect, but it was not significant. The academic implications of this study provide a detailed analysis of how prior knowledge and technological capability affect innovation resistance in SMEs and verify the intention to adopt R&D. The practical implications suggest a direction for small and medium-sized enterprises to reduce innovation resistance in accepting R&D, and companies need to recognize the suitability of R&D and recognize the importance of technological capabilities and prior knowledge in order to reduce innovation resistance.

Determinants of the Competitiveness of Women-Owned Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises: An Empirical Study from Vietnam

  • Guided by a resource-based theory, this study is the first one that takes a quantitative approach to identify determinants of competitiveness of women-owned small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam. The study employs time series data of Vietnamese SMEs extracted from the Vietnam Small and Medium Enterprises Survey conducted biennially from 2005 to 2015 in ten Vietnamese provinces. Firm competitiveness hereby is indicated by revenue, market share, profitability, and export volume. The research reveals a number of determining factors, of all, research and development, labor skills, business environment, technology investment are the most important factors, followed by capital and headcount. It is indicated that the determining factors have different influences on competitiveness obtained by different measurements. Therefore, it is based on specific targets and situations to make wise business decisions. The authors also make comparisons among groups of women-owned enterprises divided by their firm age, location, ownership, export, age, and educational background of business owners. The findings serve as critical empirical evidence and provide policy recommendations for improving the competitiveness of women-owned SMEs in Vietnam. The recommendations range from technology support, education and professional support for female entrepreneurs, access to capital and human resources to business environment improvement.

대구지역 중소기업의 인적자원관리 현황에 관한 연구 (The Current State of Human Resource Management of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Daegu)

  • 중소기업을 대상으로 경쟁력의 주요 결정요소 중 하나인 인적자원관리 실태를 살펴보았다. 제조업을 비롯해 4개 업종에 속한 763개의 대구지역 중소기업을 대상으로 인적자원관리 여건과 인력관리 애로사항에 관해 분석하였다. 전체 응답 기업 중 2%에만 노조가 결성되어 있었으며, 43%가 고용여건이 어려운 것으로 평가하였다. 그리고 자사의 보유인력이 타사에 비해 경쟁우위에 있다고 평가한 기업은 39% 정도였다. 인센티브 규정, 고충처리제도, 제안제도, 고용안정성 보장제도, 업무수행결과 평가제도, 그리고 정기적 교육 훈련 등의 인적자원관리 제도 실시 여부와 활용 정도를 살펴보았다. 전체 응답 기업들에서 실시되고있는 비율이 가장 높은 제도는 정기적 교육 훈련이었으며, 업무수행결과의 평가제도의 도입 비율이 가장 낮았다. 그리고 도입한 인적자원관리 제도 중 활용 정도가 가장 높은 것은 고용안정성 보장 제도인 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이런 결과의 시사점과 앞으로의 연구방향이 제시되었다.

  • As the 4th industrial revolution emerges, the implementation of smart factories are essential in the manufacturing industry. However, 80% of small and medium-sized enterprises that have introduced smart factories remain at the basic level. In addition, in root industries such as injection molding, PLC and HMI software are used to implement functions that simply show operation data aggregated by facilities in real time. This has limitations for managers to make decisions related to product production other than viewing data. This study presents a method for upgrading the level of smart factories to suit the reality of small and medium-sized enterprises. By monitoring the data collected from the facility, it is possible to determine whether there is an abnormal situation by proposing an appropriate algorithm for meaningful decision-making, and an alarm sounds when the process is out of control. In this study, the function of HMI has been expanded to check the failure frequency rate, facility time operation rate, average time between failures, and average time between failures based on facility operation signals. For the injection molding industry, an HMI prototype including the extended function proposed in this study was implemented. This is expected to provide a foundation for SMEs that do not have sufficient IT capabilities to advance to the middle level of smart factories without making large investments.

중소기업 CEO의 리더십 유형이 조직유효성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Leadership Style of CEO at Small and Medium-sized Enterprises on the Organizational Effectiveness)

  • 본 연구는 중소기업 CEO의 리더십 유형(변혁적 리더십, 거래적 리더십, 서번트 리더십)이 종업원의 조직유효성(조직몰입, 조직시민행동)에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 국내 중소기업 전기, 전자, IT업체 종사자를 대상(573명)으로 설문조사를 실시하였고, 이를 바탕으로 통계분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과, 변혁적 리더십의 카리스마, 개별적 배려, 서번트 리더십의 감정적 치유, 지혜, 청지기 정신은 조직몰입에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 변혁적 리더십의 카리스마, 거래적 리더십의 예외적 관리, 서번트 리더십의 지혜, 청지기 정신은 조직시민행동에 정(+)의 여향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 분석결과를 바탕으로 CEO는 종업원의 조직몰입과 조직시민행동 향상을 위해 적절한 의사소통과 애로사항, 문제 등에 필요한 요구사항들을 적극 검토하고, 이를 CEO 리더십 역량 강화에 포함하여 시행해야 한다. 또한 종업원이 자신과 함께 일하고 있다는 자긍심을 가질 수 있도록 가치관이나 신념 등을 강조하고, 장래 비전을 제시해 주며, 최종적으로 CEO와 종업원이 같은 공동목표를 갖는 공동체라는 것을 인식시켜 줄 필요성을 시사한다.
