  • Mobile IP is a base protocol to support host mobility in IP-based wireless network. It is well known that the protocol contains two main delay factors on a handoff process; one is to detect a host movement, and the other is to register the host's current location to its home network. This paper examines Layer 2(L2) handoff procedure in the IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN, and identifies these L2 triggers that can be usefully applied to Layer 3(L3) handoff. Then, the MCAA(Multiple-Casting using Anchor Agent) mechanism is proposed. It makes use of the L2 trigger and the network topology to construct an anchor agent dynamically, and the multiple-casting scheme to prevent an ongoing packet to be lost. Using a network simulator, the proposed mechanism has been evaluated the handoff delay and the packet lost point of view, in comparison with the regional registration protocol which is the most well known micro mobility support mechanism.

  • Consistent observation with high temporal and spatial resolution is required for an efficient monitoring of coastal environments. Remote monitoring system installed on the ground is capable of simultaneous observation of wide coastal area and consistent observation with high frequency, which a small number of in-situ measurements cannot manage. This paper studies two typical ground based coastal monitoring system, marine radar and camera system. Marine radar can produce time series of frequency spectrum by integrating wave number spectrum calculated from spatial and temporal variation of waves in the radar image. The time averaged radar images of waves can analyze wave breaking zone, rip currents and location of littoral bars. Camera system can observe temporal variation of foam generation originated from coastal contamination as well as shoreline changes. By extracting the part of foams from rectified images, quantitative analysis of temporal foam variation can be done. By using the two above systems of different characteristics, synergetic benefit can be achieved.

  • It is widely accepted that high user densities in mobile multimedia environments can only be achieved with micro- and pico-cell. The smaller cell size causes frequent handovers between cells, and decreases permissible handover processing delay. This may result in the handover failure, in addition to the loss of some packets during the handover. In these cases, re-transmission is needed in order to compensate errors, which in turn triggers a rapid degradation of throughput. In this paper, we propose a new handover scheme for the next generation mobile communication systems, in which the handover setup process is done in advance before a handover request by predicting the handover cell based on mobile terminal's current position and moving direction. Simulation is performed in order to analyze the handover failure rate and packet loss rate. Simulation results show that our proposed method provides a better performance than the conventional method.

  • In this paper, we propose the fault-tolerant network-based mobility management scheme for supporting multimedia services of broadcasting & communications convergence in fixed mobile convergence (FMC) networks. The proposed scheme is based on AIMS (Access Independent Mobility Service) which is developed for the mobility support among heterogeneous access networks. To support stable location management and handover control for a MN, the proposed scheme supports stable management of binding information by sensing network attachment and detachment of a mobile node (MN). In addition, the proposed fault-tolerant (FT) AIMS supports a function of message retransmission for the support of handover control message and a function of heartbeat message transmission for the support of stable access network environments to a mobile node. We evaluate and analyze the performance of the proposed scheme through the implementation of AIMS system test-bed.

  • In this paper, it presents to detect location using structural information of hand from the input color images on Webcam and to recognize hand gestures. In this system, based on the skin color, the image changes a binary number and labels. Within each labeled area, we can find the Maximum Inscribed Circle using Voronoi Diagram. This circle can find the center of hand. And the circle extracts hand region from analyzing the ellipse elements to relate Maximum Inscribed Circle. We use the Maximum Inscribed Circle and the ellipse elements as characteristic of hand gesture recognition. In various environments, we cannot recognize the object that have similar colors like the background colors. But the proposed algorithm has the advantage that can be effectively eliminated about it.

  • The East Asia (EA) region including China, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea are especially vulnerable to hydrometerological extremes during the boreal summer (June-September). Therefore, this study pursued an exploratory analysis to improve better understanding of the potential impacts of the PJ pattern on WNP Tropical cyclone (TC) activity and TC-affected extremes based on the Korean Nakdong River Basin. The results show that during the positive PJ years, the large-scale atmospheric environments tend more favorable for the TC activity than those in the negative PJ years. KP-influenced TCs during the positive (negative) PJ years are likely to occur more southwestward (northeastward), recurve at more northwestward (northeastward) locations, and indicate increase (decrease) in frequency over Korea and Japan. Consequently, TCs making landfall are more exhibited over the southeastern portions of South Korea during the positive PJ years.

  • This paper studies the security module for the reliable transmission of the meter reading and the control data between the remote terminals and the upper server-side in smart water grid. The proposed security module was implemented to make it attachable to the remote terminal without security function. In particular, unlike the smart grid of electric field, the low power is considered due to the use of battery power in the smart water grid, and the ARIA-GCM-128 symmetric key method is adopted taking into the account that the damp and constrictive environments by the installed meter location in the underground occur a communication obstacle on building of the large-scale network system. The encryption module of this paper was devised to ensure the safety between the reading data on the terminal and the control data from the upper server, and secure the stability of the remote meter reading system by taking protection against an arbitrary alteration or modification.

  • To keep pace with Industry 4.0, it is imperative for companies to redesign their working environments by adopting robotic automation systems. Automation lines are facilitating the latest cutting-edge technologies, such as 3D vision and industrial robots, to outdo competitors by reducing costs. Considering the nature of the manufacturing industry, a time-saving workflow and smooth linkwork between processes is vital. At Dellics, without any additional new installation in the automation lines, only a few improvements to the working process could raise productivity. Three requirements are the development of gripping technology by utilizing a 3D vision system for the recognition of the material shape and location, research on lighting projectors to target long distances and high illumination, and testing of algorithms/software to improve measurement accuracy and identify products. With some of the functional requisites mentioned above, improved robotic automation systems should provide an improved working environment to maximize overall production efficiency. In this article, the ways in which such a system can become the groundwork for establishing an unmanned working infrastructure are discussed.

  • To create dynamic and bustling urban environments, a diverse array of commercial facilities is indispensable. These facilities are recognised as pivotal in attracting and accommodating a larger floating population, thereby suggesting that a greater diversity of commercial establishments fosters heightened consumer expenditure. With this premise, our study endeavours to explore the influence of commercial facility diversity on the Consumer Centre Index. Focused on the temporal context of 2021 and the spatial context of Seoul, our analysis utilizes the Consumer Centre Index, derived from Kernel Density analysis, as the dependent variable. Independent variables encompass factors reflecting commercial attributes and urban characteristics. Employing spatial regression analysis at the administrative district level, we discern that the clustering of similar industries exerts a more pronounced positive effect on consumer activation compared to the clustering of disparate industries. Additionally, the findings underscore the importance of concentrating industries that bolster consumer activation. Anticipated outcomes of this study include insights beneficial for optimizing commercial facility location policies within the consumer market.

  • This study employed network analysis techniques to examine the relationships between spatiotemporal factors associated with crimes in public restrooms, drawing on diverse relevant data sources. We then evaluated the relative importance of these factors in crime occurrence. Variables related to crime incidence were identified, and their interconnectedness was assessed for network analysis, resulting in a data-driven network model with complex relational structures. The network model contributed to calculating the weight of each factor and identifying key elements. The location of public restrooms, usage time, surrounding environment, and facility conditions emerged as crucial factors in crime occurrence, with lighting quality and local security status showing high weightings. These findings can be utilized to prioritize interventions in public restroom design and management to enhance safety. The network analysis methodology demonstrated its potential in proposing crime prevention measures for public spaces, including restrooms, and contributing to the creation of safer public environments.
