  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the convenience and image quality of patients with acute lumbar pain patients at a general hospital in Daejeon using ancillary devices for postural changes and correction. The results of the study are summarized as follows. First, the Turbo S pin Echo technique(TS E) using ancillary equipment has the highest image evaluation rating with an average score of 4.440, which is highly valuable on a diagnosis. Second, the average score for patient the questionnaire 'When using ancillary equipment, I feel that my body is calibrated to side without bias.' was shown as 4.440, which is very useful for the correction of the patient's body when using ancillary equipment. Finally, Breath Hold technique(BH) is very effective in shortening test time of acute lumbar pain patients, because it can reduce test time 86.4% faster than Turbo Spin Echo technique(TSE). The results of the study showed that the use of ancillary equipment to perform the test through the side lying postures helped to reduce the pain and control the patient's breathing, and the diagnostic value of the image was high.

  • Output data streams of the MSC contain flags, Headers and image data according to the established protocols and data formats. Especially the Header added to each data lines contain information of a line sync, a line counter and, ancillary data which consist of ancillary identification bit and one ancillary data byte. This information is used by ground station to calculate the geographic coordinates of the image and get the on-board time and several EOS(Electro-Optical Subsystem) parameters used at the time of imaging. Therefore, the EGSE(Electrical Ground Supporting Equipment) that is used for testing MSC has to have functions of interpreting and displaying this Header information correctly following the protocols. This paper describes the design of the header data processing module which is in EOSEGSE. This module provides users with various test functions such as header validation, ancillary block validation, line-counter and In-line counter validation checks which allow convenient and fast test on imagery data.

  • In this paper, modified power control algorithms are proposed for a satellite mobile communications system with ATC (ancillary terrestrial component). In order to increase system capacity and reduce the transmitting power of the user's equipment, we propose the modified power control scheme consisting of the modified closed-loop and open-loop power control. The modified CLPC (closed-loop power control) algorithm, combining the delay compensation algorithms and pilot diversity, is mainly applied to the ATC link in urban areas because it is more suitable to the short RTD (round-trip delay). In the case of rural areas where ATCs are not deployed or a signal is not received from ATCs, combining monitoring transmitting power equipment and OLPC (open-loop power control) algorithms using an efficient pilot diversity is mainly applied to the link between the user's equipment and the satellite. Two power control algorithms are applied equally to the boundary areas where two kinds of signals are received in order to ensure coverage continuity. The simulation results show that the modified power control scheme has good performance compared to conventional power control schemes in a GEO (geostationary earth orbit) satellite system with ATC.

  • It is expected to confront numerous technological advancements in ter railroad technology with an opening of state-of-art Kyung-Bu High Speed Railroad that permits traveling speed in excess of 300 Km/hr. Expansions of railroad facility such as revival of silk railroad in Eurasia due to the connection of South-North Korea and modernization of rolling stock and ancillary equipment have certainly contributed to the technological development of Korean Railroad. Such technological advancements will provide of opportunities to participate in foreign projects that have been offered in past years. Thus, a comprehensive plan and R&D policy is necessary to continuously raise and upgrade national competitiveness in the railroad industry.

  • Green communication is a new paradigm of designing the communication system which considers not only the processing performance but also the energy efficiency. Power control management is one of the approaches in green communication to reduce the power consumption in distributed communication system. In this paper, we propose improved power control schemes for mobile satellite systems with ancillary terrestrial components (ATCs). In order to increase system capacity and reduce the transmitting power of the user's equipment, we propose an efficient channel estimation method consisting of a modified open-loop power control (OLPC) and closed-loop power control (CLPC). The OLPC works well if the forward and reverse links are perfectly correlated. The CLPC is sensitive to round-trip delay and, therefore, it is not effective in a mobile satellite system. In order to solve the above problem, we added monitoring equipment to both the OLPC and CLPC to use information about transmitting power that has not yet been received by the receiver over the satellite/ATC channel. Moreover, we adapted an efficient pilot diversity of both OLPC and CLPC in order to get a better signal to interference plus noise ratio estimation of the received signal.

  • The most powerful analytical equipment usually comes at the cost of having the highest demand for space. Where electron microscopes has traditionally required a room to themselves, not just for reasons of their size but because of ancillary demands for pipes and service. The simple optical microscopes, of course, can occupy the desk-top, but because their performance is limited by the wavelength of light, their powers of magnification and resolution are inferior to that of the electron microscope. Mini SEM will sit comfortably on a desk-top but offers magnification and resolution performances much closer to that of a standard SEM. This new technique extends the scope of SEM as a high-resolution microscope, relatively cheap and widely available imaging tool, for a wider variety of samples.

  • An open architecture manufacturing strategy intends to integrate manufacturing components on a single platform so that a particular component can be easily added and/or replaced. Therefore, the control scheme based upon the open architecture concept is hardware-independent. In this paper, a modular and object oriented approach for a PC-based open robot control system is investigated. A standard reference model for robot systems, which consists of three modules; hardware module, operating system module, and application software module, is first proposed. Then, a PC-based Open Robot Controller(PC-ORC), which can reconfigure robot control systems in various production environments, is developed. The PC-ORC is built upon the object-oriented method, and allows an easy implementation and modification of various modules. The PC-ORC consists of basic softwares, application objects, and additional hardware device on the PC Platform. The application objects are: sequencer, computation unit, servo control, ancillary equipment, external sensor control, and so on. In order to demonstrate the applicability of the PC-ORC, the proposed PC-ORC configuration is applied to an industrial SCARA robot system.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to identify factors inhibiting access of people with disability to health check-ups as well as identify pertinent solutions for improvement. Methods: Twenty-three people with disability older than the age of 19 who took respective health check-ups within the last 3 years were selected as participants. For the data collection, the 1:1 intensive interview was used. The data were analyzed by the grounded theory by Corbin and Strauss. Results: The results comprised nine categories, 23 subcategories, and 179 concepts. The central phenomenon was 'failure to obtain check-ups.' Causal conditions were observed as a 'lack of communication method,' 'physical difficulties,' and 'staff unfamiliar with people with disability,' Interventional conditions comprised 'physical accessibility,' 'staffs' competency,' and 'assistant manpower.' The active strategy was included 'to investigate the professional medical institution,' 'to find the medical institution of convenient traffic accessibility,' 'to overcome communication difficulties through equipment,' and 'to overcome linguistic barriers through sufficient communication.' Whereas, 'utilization of ancillary equipment,' 'the education of staffs on people with disability,' 'universal design manual,' and 'customized check-ups' were included in the passive strategy. Such processes arose in the contextual conditions of 'lack of expectations for daily lives' and 'lack of government support.' As a consequence, the subjects participated experienced the 'disadvantages,' 'discrimination,' and 'reduced reliability of the health check-ups.' Conclusion: The subjects who participated in this study emphasized 'staffs familiar with people with disability' and 'systems customized for people with disability' are mandatory to secure complete health check-ups for people with disability.
