  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the safety consciousness of the lobours working at the ship building or repairing yard at which the industrial accidents frequently happen, and to provide the basic data required for the prevention of those accidents. This study is made by analyzing the questionnaires of 208 labours working at various ship building or repairing industries at random. This questionnaire is focused on finding the basic data for prevention of industrial accidents and getting the public opinions and proposals of labours. The results obtained by this study are as follows ; The negative estimations of the labours to the safety are cultivation of safety consciousness, the safety behavior in company, the molters of arrangement and the estimation of industrial or post arrangement. The positive ones are the arrangements of the protective tools and equipments for safety, the rule of safety regulation and the order of works, and the status of health education within company.

  • In any form of construction work, it is essential that accidents be prevented at every stage, from foundation preparation to build completion. For this, it is necessary to use models that can assess risk and provide instructions for safe work processes so that the risk of accidents is reduced. Currently, however, very few models can perform these tasks. In this paper, we present a model that assesses risk quantitatively by analyzing the risk factors involved in each stage of construction, such as foundation work, temporary work, structural work, equipment work, and finishing work. The model performs assessment based on examples of accidents and by investigating actual conditions during construction. In addition, we present in this paper a safety management system developed to assess risk during construction and to effectively train laborers.

  • Estimating the cost of injuries and "accidents" to an organization is very important to figure out about how much well each organization has run his company and how much efficiently he has got the results using a certain amount of the expense for safety. Despite the potential usefulness to management of information as to the cost of a company's "accidents", it is not customary accounting practice to make these data available. Of the two general kinds of costs forced on a company by its occupational injuries and "accidents", the insurance cost and uninsured cost, -the former is by far the easier to find out. But actually, this uninsured cost should be figured out at each company. Authors have designed the generalized model to figure out the above problem costs to establish its efficient safety control. One construction company has been a pilot for this study. It is found that efficient safety control cost should be 1.2%~l.3% of total selling amount by analyzing actual data for three years.g actual data for three years.

  • Owing to advancements in intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and artificial-intelligence technologies, various machine-learning models can be employed to simulate and predict the number of traffic accidents under different weather conditions. Furthermore, we can analyze the relationship between weather and traffic accidents, allowing us to assess whether the current weather conditions are suitable for travel, which can significantly reduce the risk of traffic accidents. In this study, we analyzed 30000 traffic flow data points collected by traffic cameras at nearby intersections in Washington, D.C., USA from October 2012 to May 2017, using Pearson's heat map. We then predicted, analyzed, and compared the performance of the correlation between continuous features by applying several machine-learning algorithms commonly used in ITS, including random forest, decision tree, gradient-boosting regression, and support vector regression. The experimental results indicated that the gradient-boosting regression machine-learning model had the best performance.

  • Although a number of chemical accidents have been occurred in South Korea, the effective prevention act for soil contamination has not been established so far. To effectively protect soil contamination from chemical accidents, decision support laws and regulations are absolutely essential. Regarding this situation, this study was aimed at diagnosing problems in current chemical safety management and prevention and response system against chemical accidents through analyzing the domestic and foreign causes of chemical accidents and the accident response procedures and finally suggesting policy measures for solving those problems. In order to clarify management of soil contamination by chemical accident, this study suggests the establishment of chemical accident preparedness, response, and making of local chemical management law and policy. This law needs to be supported by a clear management framework to guide government officials and all other stakeholders in the management of soil contamination by chemical accident.

  • As the length of local tunnels is getting longer, the demand for tunnel safety attracts more attention. But only a few information can be found concerning traffic and fire accidents occurred in local tunnel, and full-fledged studies had not been carried out to fulfill the expectation of the tunnel users. This study aims at collecting and analyzing the data on traffic and fire accidents in local road tunnels and providing the fundamental data for the tunnel fire safety evaluation. Focus is placed on quantifying the relationship among traffic accidents, fire occurrences and tunnel characteristics.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of traffic accidents and to develop the models by day and night-time in the case of the arterial link sections. In pursuing the above, this study uses the 224 accident data occurred at the 24 arterial link sections in Cheongju. The main results analyzed are as follows. First, it was analyzed that the number of accidents during day was more than night, but the accidents rate during night was higher than day. Second, four models which were all statistically significant were developed. Finally, the differences between the day and night models were comparatively analyzed using independent variables.

  • Accident scenarios analysis is a course to understand, analyze, and describe a process of an accident and behavior pattern of the parties to an accident. The method of accident scenarios is that we described patterns represented between accidents and hazardous conditions, and then provide data to prevent the accident. We have carried out scenarios analysis in various fields so far, but it was not taking account of system. In this research, we made a study on technology of accident scenarios analysis using QFD (Quality Function Deployment) to analyze systematically and evaluate quantitatively types of hazards and scenarios of railway accident. And we analyses accident scenarios of a subject of work-related fatality accident to railway employee and conducted risk assessment for different scenarios. Also we defined relation between unsafe events and hazardous conditions caused to work-related fatality accident, and attempted to quantitatively assess work-related fatality accident and the parties to accidents. The results of this research will be used in analyzing for important causes and contributing factors of work-related fatality accidents at the step of risk assessment of railway system, and quantitatively assessing frequency of work-related accidents and risk.

  • Currently, safety accidents in hospitals are steadily occurring. In particular, safety accidents of elderly patients with weak immunity, such as nursing hospitals, continue to occur, and countermeasures are needed. Most accidents are caused by patient movement. As a method of reducing safety accidents by analyzing and recognizing the sound of the inpatient room according to the movement of the patient, this paper classifies the sound pattern for sound recognition in the hospital inpatient room using DTW (Dynamic Time Warping), an algorithm applicable to time-series pattern recognition. It was analyzed by applying it to the inpatient room environment.

  • The airline industry has been growing steadily since 2016 with more than 100 million air passengers, renewing the largest number of air passengers every year. Increasing air demand leads to an increase in air traffic in limited airspace, increasing the likelihood of accidents between aircraft. Due to the massive human and material damage caused by a single mistake, aviation safety is being heavily focused around the world to efficiently use limited airspace. Studies related to various human factors are underway as most of the aviation accidents are found to be caused by human factors, but research on human factors by controllers is insufficient while they are active in terms of control and operation. Given that 82% of air accidents caused by controllers are caused by human error, the importance of management of human error and changes in perception are urgently needed. This study aims to understand the seriousness of the controller's human error by analyzing the accident cases caused by the controller's human error using TEM to identify threats and errors and derive common human factors.
