  • This paper discusses several low-temperature heat-tranfer fluids, including water-based inorganic salt, organic salt, alcohol/glycol mixtures, silicones, and halogenated hydrocarbons in order to choose the best heat-transfer fluid for the newly designed direct contact refrigeration system. So, it contains a survey on commercial products such as propylene glycol and potassium formate as newly used in super market and food processing refrigeration. The stability of commercial fluids at the working temperature of $-20^{\circ}C$ was monitored as a function of time up to two months. And organic and inorganic compositions of candidate fluids were obtained by analytical instruments such as ES, XRF, AAS, ICP-AES, GC, and GC-MS. Analysis results indicate that commercial propylene glycol is very efficient and safe heat transfer fluids for the direct cooling system with liquid phase.

  • An approximate analytical solution of a nonlinear hydro-thermo coupled diffusion equation is derived using the dimensionless form of the equation and transformation method. To derive an analytical solution, it is drastically assumed that the product of first order derivatives in the non-dimensionalized governing equation has little influence on the solution of heat and moisture behavior problem. The validity of this drastic assumption is demonstrated. Some numerical simulation is performed to investigate the applicability of a derived approximate analytical solution. The results show a good agreement between analytical and numerical solutions. The proposed solution may provide a useful tool in the verification process of the numerical models. Also, the solution can be used for the analysis of one-dimensional coupled heat and moisture movements in unsaturated porous media.

  • This study was carried out to examine the optimal analytical method for determination of urinary toxic arsenic (inorganic arsenic and its metabolites) by HG-AAS (hydride generation-atomic absorption spectrometry). In the analysis of SRMs (standard reference materials), method E (addition of 0.4% L-cysteine to pre-reductant and use 0.04M HCl as carrier acid) showed the most accurate results compared with the reference values. In the analysis of 30 urinary samples, analytical results were significantly different depend on the component of pre-reductant and the concentration of carrier acid. When the concentration of carrier acid was higher, the analytical result was lower. The recovery rates of MMA (monomethylarsonic acid) and DMA (dimethylarsenic acid) were varied by the concentration of pre-treatment acid and carrier acid and hydride generation reagents. When the concentration of carrier acid was 1.62 M (5% HCl), the recovery rates of DMA was 1%. The recovery rates of MMA and DMA in method E (=V) were 102% and 100%, respectively. The results of this study suggest that the component and concentration of pre-reductant and carrier acid must be carefully adjusted in the analysis of urinary arsenic, and method E is recommendable as the most precise analytical method for determination of urinary toxic arsenic.

  • The object of this paper is to find the characteristics of fire proof materials through an analytical method and to suggest a proper approach for fire-proof design of reinforced concrete beam strengthened with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP). Heating tests for fire-proof materials were conducted and the thermal conductivities and specific heats of them were simulated through finite element analyses. In addition, a finite element analysis on the beam specimen strengthened with FRP under high temperature, which was conducted by previous researchers, was performed and the analytical result was compared with test result. And then the compatibility of the analytical approach was evaluated. Finally, the heat resistance characteristic of RC beam strengthened with FRP was analyzed by the proposed analytical method and the strength decrease of the beam due to the high temperature was evaluated. From the comparison with analytical and test result, it was found that the heat transfer from outside to inside through the fire-proof materials can be suitably simulated by using the proposed analytical approach.

  • This paper deals with eddy current loss of magnetic coupling with radial permanent magnet (PM) using analytical method such as a space harmonic method. Superposition of two kinds analysis model is used to analyze eddy current loss induced in inner PM and outer PM of magnetic coupling. When the eddy current is induced, the environmental temperature increases, and the permanent magnet(PM) characteristics are degraded because the performance of PM is greatly influenced by temperature rise. Hence, the calculation of eddy current loss becomes an important factor in the magnetic coupling. In order to analyze eddy current loss, first, on the basis of the magnetic vector potential and two-dimensional(2-D) polar-coordinate system, the magnetic field solutions of the radial magnetized PM are obtained. And we obtain the analytical solutions for the eddy current density produced by permanent magnet. Lastly, analytical solutions for eddy current loss are derived by using equivalent, electrical resistance calculated from magnet volume and analytical solution for eddy current density. This analytical results are validated by comparing with the 2-D finite element analysis (FEA).

  • To study the vibration characteristics of a high-speed railway continuous girder bridge-track coupling system (HSRCBT), a coupling vibration analysis model of an m-span continuous girder bridge-subgrade-track system with n-span approach bridge was established. The model was based on the energy and its variational method, where both the interlaminar slip and shear deformation effects were considered. In addition, the free vibration equations and natural boundary conditions of the HSRCBT were derived. Further, according to the coordination principle of deformation and mechanics, an analytical method for calculating the natural vibration frequencies of the HSRCBT was obtained. Three typical bridge-subgrade-track coupling systems of high-speed railway were taken and the results of finite element analysis were compared to those of the analytical method. The errors between the simulation results and calculated values of the analytical method were less than 3%, thus verifying the analytical method proposed in this paper. Finally, the analytical method was used to investigate the influence of the number of the approach bridge spans and the interlaminar stiffness on the natural vibration characteristics of the HSRCBT based on the degree of sensitivity. The results suggest the approach bridges have a critical number of spans and in general, the precision requirements of the analysis could be met by using 6-span approach bridges. The interlaminar vertical compressive stiffness has very little influence on the low-order natural vibration frequency of HSRCBT, but does have a significant influence on higher-order natural vibration frequency. As the interlaminar vertical compressive stiffness increases, the degree of sensitivity to interlaminar stiffness of each of the HSRCBT natural vibration characteristics decrease and gradually approach zero.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose an analytical framework for the essential contents that must be included in a climate change education program for elementary school students based on community issues, which can be used by citizen instructors in the community. To develop the analytical framework, 24 climate environmental education specialists were consulted seven times. The content validity of the final analysis framework was statistically verified using I-CVI and S-CVI coefficients, and the reliability of the expert panel was verified using Fleiss' Kappa coefficient. The final analysis framework consists of three analytical areas (program objectives, program content, program evaluation), seven analysis items, seven analysis indicators, and detailed explanations of the analysis indicators. In particular, by adding detailed explanations for the analysis indicators, the content validity and reliability were increased, and the objective nature of the analysis framework was firmly established. It is expected that the proposed analytical framework for a community-based climate change education program for elementary school students in this study will contribute to the systematic development of the program by citizen instructors.

  • In this article, the generalized coupled non-Fickian diffusion-thermoelasticity analysis is carried out using an analytical method. The transient behaviors of field variables, including mass concentration, temperature and displacement are studied in a strip, which is subjected to shock loading. The governing equations are derived using generalized coupled non-Fickian diffusion-thermoelasticity theory, which is based on Lord-Shulman theory of coupled thermoelasticity. The governing equations are transferred to the frequency domain using Laplace transform technique and then the field variables are obtained in analytical forms using the presented method. The field variables are eventually determined in time domain by employing the Talbot technique. The dynamic behaviors of mass concentration, temperature and displacement are studied in details. It is concluded that the presented analytical method has a high capability for simulating the wave propagation with finite speed in mass concentration field as well as for tracking thermoelastic waves. Furthermore, the obtained results are more realistic than that of others.
