  • Osteoporosis is one of the most important public health problems facing the aging population. Drug therapy for osteoporosis can be divided operationally into two main categories: drugs that inhibit bone resorption, and thus reduce bone turnover, and those that stimulate bone formation, exerting an anabolic effect. Antiresorptive agents such as estrogens, calcitonin, and bisphosphonates are most effective in the prevention of osteoporosis. Formation-stimulating agents such as sodium fluoride or monofluorophosphate, parathyroid hormone fragments, and anabolic steroids are of potential value in the treatment of established osteoporosis, where bone mass is already low and benefit from antiresorptive drugs is likely to be small Recently, raloxifene, a selective estrogen receptor modulator, has become available in various countries for clinical use in the treatment of involutional osteoporsis. This paper will review the use of these drugs in postmenopausal woman.

  • The increased average life expectancy and an aging society mean a lot of change socially and economically. With the increased population of the new elderly generation, holding a desire to pursue high quality life, plans and marketing strategies towards this group have progressed in the clothing industry. Purchases of clothing will lead the silver clothing industry to a huge consumer market and silver clothing brands are expected to have a lot of potential to grow, especially in department stores in Korea. From now on, there is a need for attacking the market with distinct tactics and characteristics that will satisfy the elderly consumers emotionally. Psychological views towards the elderly generation must be changed and our unique environment state must be considered. With all that, there is also a strong need for researches and development technically and industrially.

  • Alnine pellets were installed in a nuclear power plant for one or two operation cycles and measured by electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrometers for dosimetry. Dose and "x/y ratio", i.e., satellite peak over main center peak ratio, were measured for the returned alanine dosimeters from the nuclear power plant and compared to the values of reference alanine dosimeters exposed only to gamma rays. The variation of the x/y ratio change depended on the population of radicals from each radiation component with different LET. The gamma dose in a mixed radiation field was estimated by an additive gamma ray irradiation experiment and the measured dose rate at specified locations in the containment building.

  • A variety of medical devices are utilized to repair or help injured body functions after accidental injury(such as a traffic accident), population aging, or disease. Such medical devices are being actively researched and developed in portable form, skin patchable type, and further, implantable form. In the future, active implantable medical devices for neuro and brain sciences are expected to be developed. Active implantable medical devices that detect brain signals and control neurology for a wider understanding of human cognition and nerve functions, and for an understanding and treatment of various diseases, are being actively pursued for future use. In this paper, the core elements of implantable devices that can be applied to neuro and brain sciences are classified into electrode technologies for bio-signal acquisition and stimulation, analog/digital circuit technologies for signal processing, human body communication technologies, wireless power transmission technologies for continuous device use, and device integration technologies to integrate them. In each chapter, the latest technology development trends for each detailed technology field are reviewed.

  • Since Korea has already become the 'aging society' and is expected to become the 'aged society' by 2019, development of the facilities and dedicated housing for the senior citizens have become the key issues. The growing population of the older people, changed in the social structure, family type, and the way of living brings a moment to consider the various aspects to support the older people. The purpose of this research is to analyze the interior color characteristics. Based on the research will provide a direction for color planning of elderly housing facilities in Korea. For this purpose, a field survey was conducted between October 17-21 in Japan. The research method employed was an empirical case study visiting 6 senior housing facilities in Japan, Osaka area. First, the brightness used in the senior housing facilities in Japan ranges from high value to low value while the chroma ranges from the middle chroma to low chroma. The warm colors of Y, YR and R are mainly used.

  • As a result of the rapid economic growth and birth control policy, China is experiencing low fertility rates and increasing life expectancy, which makes Chinese population aging very quickly and unprepared for their retired life. The reverse mortgage may be an attractive option for the elderly because it is a loan against a house that they do not have to pay back as long as they live there. In this paper, in order to introduce the reverse mortgage scheme in China the factors that could influence the demand of reverse mortgage are reviewed and the Chinese market environment is analyzed. Then the principal component analysis is performed in order to recommend the regions or cities that have higher potential for successful implementation of a reverse mortgage than any other ones in China.

  • This study analyzes the premium risk of insurers in Korea, which is expected to experience the fastest population aging in the world. Based on the Lee-Carter model, we generate 10,000 scenarios for the number of future survivors in the group of the 10,000 policyholders of life annuity. According to the result of simulation study, the probability of insurer's loss for both groups of male and female policyholders is very low. This result indicates that the premium risk of insurers is not as great as the insurer's concern. This study also suggests introduction of the longevity swap as an alternative to manage the premium risk for the insurer which sells life annuity products. The longevity swap allows insurers to hedge premium risk and reduce capital burden due to the premium risk inherent in life annuity. This study also shows through examples that the counterparty of swap deal may have excess profit in exchange for taking premium risk.

  • With the deepening of population aging, pension has become an urgent problem in most countries. Community smart pension can effectively resolve the problem of traditional pension, as well as meet the personalized and multi-level needs of the elderly. To predict the pension intention of the elderly in the community more accurately, this paper uses the decision tree classification method to classify the pension data. After missing value processing, normalization, discretization and data specification, the discretized sample data set is obtained. Then, by comparing the information gain and information gain rate of sample data features, the feature ranking is determined, and the C4.5 decision tree model is established. The model performs well in accuracy, precision, recall, AUC and other indicators under the condition of 10-fold cross-validation, and the precision was 89.5%, which can provide the certain basis for government decision-making.

  • IoT-based services are being released in accordance with the aging population and the demand for well-being pursuit needs. In addition to medical device companies, companies with ideas ranging from global ICT companies to startup companies are accelerating their market entry. The areas where these services are most commonly applied are health/medical, life/safety, city/energy, automotive and transportation. Furthermore, by expanding IoT technology convergence into the area of life care services, it contributes greatly to the development of service models in the public sector. It also provides an important opportunity for IoT-related companies to open up new markets. By addressing the problems of life care services that are still insufficient. We are providing opportunities to pursue the common interests of both users and workers and improve the quality of life. In order to establish IoT-based digital life care services, it is necessary to develop convergence technologies using cloud computing systems, big data analytics, medical information, and smart healthcare infrastructure.

  • As South Korean population is aging and the elderly have to continue their economic activities, the problem of jobs for the elderly is coming to the fore. In particular, in the situation where traditional agriculture is preferred over strategic mechanized agriculture, due to the reality of South Korean agriculture dominated by farming by the elderly, the paradigm of South Korean agriculture should be changed into completely new one in order to have new competitiveness. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose the $6^{th}$ industry as an alternative to create jobs for the elderly. To this end, 6th industry success cases in South Korea are analyzed with a view to discovering implications applicable to other countries too.
