  • This paper introduces the eddy current signal characteristic of magnetic and non-magnetic gas turbine rotor. In the past, Magnetic particle inspection method was used in magnetic material for qualitative defect evaluation and the ultrasonic test method was used for quantitative evaluation. Nowadays, eddy current method is used in magnetic gas turbine rotor inspection due to advanced sensor design technology. We are studying on the magnetic gas turbine rotor by using eddy current method. We prepared diverse depth specimens made by magnetic and non-magnetic materials. We select optimum frequency according to material standard penetration data and experiment results. We got the signal on magnetic and non-magnetic material about 0.2 mm, 05 mm, 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm 2.0 mm and 2.5 mm depth defects and compare the signal amplitude and signal trend according to defect depth and frequency. The results show that signal amplitudes of magnetic are bigger than non-magnetic material and the trends are similar on every defect depth and frequency. The detection and resolution capabilities of eddy current are more effective in magnetic material than in non-magnetic materials. So, the eddy current method is effective inspection method on magnetic gas turbine rotor. And it has the merits of time saving and simple procedure by elimination of the ultrasonic inspection in traditional inspection method.

  • In this work, corrosion of 304 stainless steel was evaluated by using acoustic emission(AE) technique. AE measurement system was set for detecting acoustic signal during accelerated corrosion test of the specimen. AE signal started to be detected after the time of pitting corrosion initiation was evaluated by anodic polarization curve. Pitting corrosion damage was confirmed by optical microscopic observation of the surface morphology. AE cumulative counts and amplitude according to corrosion time could be divided into three stages. These trends were discussed in relation with changing pitting corrosion mechanism. Feasibilities of AE technique for evaluation of corrosion damage and mechanism were suggested.

  • This paper presents a nature-inspired wideband sprout-leaf shaped antenna with end-fire radiation pattern. A sprout-leaf shape angled-radiator was designed for wide beamwidth radiation patterns for motion detection sensors. An extended and truncated ground plane was used as a reflector for end-fire radiation patterns. To feed the balanced radiator, a broadband microstrip (MS) to coplanar stripline (CPS) balun was utilized with excellent amplitude and phase balance. The proposed antenna demonstrates wide frequency bandwidth from 8.5 to 14.5 GHz with wide beamwidth and the radiation efficiency of 90%. The measured gain is from 4 to 5 dBi and front-to-back ratio was 10 to 20 dB. It has been shown that the proposed antenna can be used for imaging sensors, phased array systems, and radars that require a wide bandwidth and a directional radiation pattern.

  • This papers presents a practical damage detection algorithm based on damage index method that accurately assesses both the location and severity of the localized detriment in a bridge structure using only limited mode shapes. In the algorithm, the ratio of the modal vector sensitivity of an undamaged structure to that of a damaged structure is used as an indicator of damage. However, a difficulty arises when the damaged element is located at a node of mode where the amplitude of medal vector is close to zero, leading the singularity of the ratio (i.e., division-by-zero). This singularity problem is overcome by introducing a parameter denoted a sensitivity filter, a function of mode shape of the structure, in modal vector sensitivity. Using this concept, an improvement can be considerably achieved in the estimation of both degree of severity and location of damage. To verify the proposed algorithm, its numerical implementations are conducted for a simply supported beam and a 2-span continuous beam.

  • Since the scale in pipes reduces the flow rate, a quantitative evaluation of the scale is essential for the proper maintenance of pipes. Guided waves were employed to estimate the amount of scale in water supplying pipes. Using variable angle wedge, several modes of guided waves wire generated and their propagation charcteristics along the pipes with stale were analyzed. It was experimentally observed that the amplitude of F(M,2) modes at $f{\times}d=1.5MHz\;mm$ decreased significantly with increasing amount of scale. The present study showed that F(M,2) modes were optima) to evaluate the scale in water supplying pipes.

  • For ASME Code pumps in nuclear power plants, inservice test is required to assess the operational readiness in accordance with ASME code and related regulations. The objective of this study therefore, is to develop the technical background of the degradation of pump performances and conditions due to low flow rate operation. In addition. the detection techniques of pump operating conditions are to be developed to enhance the safety and economy of nuclear power plants. A test loop consisted of pump, motor. water tank, flow rate measurements and piping system with flow control devices was established for this study. Two typical pumps, 1-stage volute pump and 3-stage turbine pump, were selected and the test was performed upon two major point of views ; i.e., pump discharge pressure pulsations analysis and pump vibration spectrum analysis. From the test results, it is concluded that (1) the pump vibration affected by the natural frequency of operating pump is significant in the low frequency zone (around 1 Hz) : the vibration amplitude. especially. is an important factor during low flow rate operation. and shall be monitored to ensure that it is within the limit of ASME OM code Part 6, (2) the vibration frequency and pump discharge pressure are affected by vane pass frequency and running speed, (3) the wave phenomena due to the compressiblity of water is anticipated during low flow rate operation. and the pump system shall be designed to prevent it and. finally, (4) the technical background of the degradation of pump performances and conditions due to low flow rate operation is provided.

  • In modern electronic warfare, RADAR is under constant threat of ECM(Electronic Counter Measures) signals from nearby jammers. The conventional linear frequency modulated(Linear-FM) waveform is easy to be intercepted to estimate its signal parameters due to its periodical phase transition. Recently, APCN(Advanced Pulse Compression Noise) waveform using random amplitude and phase transition was proposed for LPI(Low probability of Intercept). But random phase code signals such as APCN waveform tend to be sensitive to Doppler frequency shift and result in performance degradation during moving target detection. In this paper, random phase and code rate transition based radar waveform(RPCR) is proposed for Doppler tolerance improvement. Time frequency analysis is carried out through ambiguity analysis to validate the improved Doppler tolerance of RPCR waveform. As a means to measure the vulnerability of the proposed RPCR waveform against LPI, WHT(Wigner-Hough Transform) is adopted to analyze and estimate signal parameters for ECCM(Electronic Counter Counter Measures) application.

  • This study is about design for the Rotational Instrument of the Industry factory which is used management safety and maintenance. We developed the multichannel vibration monitering system of the self-diagnosis for middle level CMS(Condition Monitoring System) market, and that system are new features to the expandability and flexibility. Normally one channel is used for treating one signal, but developed instrument can treat four channel with one signal processing card. One rack have redundant power supply and displace and it can check vibration measurement value in field without computer. Bearing fault detection is fundamental of vibration surveillance, but sometimes can not check with vibration velocity and acceleration. So it need the filtering and the amplitude modulation on the acceleration enveloping technology when irregular vibration is happened. We developed the vibration analysis instrument which is applied such technology. And the development prototype shows activated within the vibration error limit.

  • Recently, disaster accidents have occurred frequently over the world, and disaster have been continuously studied using remote sensing due to large scale and hard-to-reach features. The collapse of Laos Xe pian-Xe namnoy dam in 2018 also caused a lot of human and economic damage. This study's purpose is to change detect water system due to the collapse of Xe pian-Xe namnoy dam in Laos and to derive areas where future flooding is expected. The water system is extracted from each image of KOMPSAT-5 before and after the dam collapse in order to quantitatively change detect in the water system. The result of the water system area increased more than 10 times after the dam collapse. In addition, it is confirmed that the newly created water system is thickly created in areas of low altitude area. This study result can be used in the future to systematize the pre-response to abnormalities and issues in existing operating dams. And then, if combined with other remote sensing data, more diverse and specific results could be obtained.

  • EMAT has been applied in various fields for flaw detection and material characterization because it has noncontact property in wave generation and a good mode selectivity. Unfortunately, however, EMAT shows low signal to noise ratio relative to commercial contact transducer because of low energy conversion efficiency. If the phase matching through the control of time delay between each coil consisting of the array EMAT is accomplished, it is expected that it will be a solution for the improvement of low signal to noise ratio. In this experiment, the phased array EMATs which consists of 3 or 4 meander coils and one big magnet were fabricated for surface and vertical shear wave generation. Effect of phased delay control on signal directivity and amplitude enhancement was verified. A slit with the depth of 0.5 mm and a side-drill hole of 0.5 mm diameter were clearly detected by fabricated phased array EMATs, respectively.
