  • An ECG(Electrocardiogram) compression can increase the processing speed of system as well as reduce amount of signal transmission and data storage of long-term records. Whereas conventional performance evaluations of loss or lossless compression algorithms measure PRD(Percent RMS Difference) and CR(Compression Ratio) in the viewpoint of engineers, this paper focused on the performance evaluations of compression algorithms in the viewpoint of diagnostician who diagnosis ECG. Generally, for not effecting the diagnosis in the ECG compression, the position, length, amplitude and waveform of the restored signal of PQRST wave should not be damaged. AZTEC, a typical ECG compression algorithm, is validated its effectiveness in conventional performance evaluation. In this paper, we propose novel performance evaluation of AZTEC in the viewpoint of diagnostician.

  • To machine the micro hole, laser machining system is widely used, however, the system cannot fabricate the micro hole with high aspect ratio and good surface finish. To break the obstacles, the high frequency vibration mechanism with PZT (Piezoelectric Transducers) is proposed in this paper. The mechanism will vibrate the laser beam in vertical direction so that the aspect ratio and surface finish may be higher than the conventional. The mechanism vibrates the eyepiece of laser optics. In addition to the benefits, the mechanism enables us to have high precision and flexibility. It decreases burr and debris during machining. And it is able to machine various materials of workpiece. This research include high frequency and large travel range of the proposed mechanism. The PZT motion of mechanism and analysis on the sensitivity of design parameters are extracted from a finite element method (FEM) simulation. In the analysis, the target vibration mode without parasitic motion is designated to have the target frequency and high amplitude.

  • In this paper, an inter-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) sub-carrier distortion due to fiber chromatic dispersion is investigated. The fiber chromatic dispersion induces phase difference among OFDM sub-carriers, resulting in non-symmetric peak to average power ratio (PAPR) inducing inter-OFDM distortion. Experiments to confirm the fiber dispersion are performed in a direct-detection optical front-haul link. Quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) encoded OFDM symbols at 25 Gbit/s are transmitted over 100 km fiber and the resulting error vector magnitude (EVM) of 40 % is observed.

  • There are many reports on fatigue crack of metallic materials but most of them relate crack propagation rate to stress intensity factor. The problem of crack propagation is not yet clarified, especially the bridge between micro and macro phenomena In this experiment rotating bending fatigue tests have been carried out with smoothed specimen of rolled steel plates including 0.2% carbon under application of three stress conditions to investigate the slip band and the crack propagation behaviour. The results obtained are as follows; 1) The length of cracks which have grown at initial crack tips can be expressed as follows; $l=Ae^{BNr}$(A,B: constant, $N_r$: cycle ratio) $\frac{dl}{dN}=\frac{AB}{N_f}{\cdot}e^{BNr}$($N_f$:fatigue life) 2) The ratio of slipped grain number to total grain number is $S_f=7{\sigma}-5.6$-5.6{\sigma}_c$($\sigma$: stress amplitude) (${\sigma}_c$: fatigue limit) 3) When the fatigue process transfers from Stage I to Stage II, the crack which propagates into specimen changes its direction from that of the maximum shear stress to the direction of perpendicular to principal stress and this is same in the circumferential direction of specimen. the crack propagation behaviors of both sides of a crack are different each other when they approach to the grain boundary.

  • In this paper, when we use the chirp signal as input signal of ultrasonic signal system the technique for determining the bandwidth of the chirp signal that maximizes the amplitude of the compressed ultrasonic echo signal has been studied. In ultrasonic signal processing systems, the signal-to-noise ratio of the echo signal can be too low due to damping and scattering of the ultrasonic wave during transmission. Method of pulse compression using chirp signal is a means to increase the signal-to-noise ratio in ultrasonic pulse-echo systems. Simulation and experimental results showed that the output signal of ultrasonic system was increased by pulse width of chirp signal and the optimum-bandwidth of the chirp signal was 1.15 times larger than the bandwidth of the ultrasonic system.

  • Behaviors of surges appearing near the stall stagnation boundaries in various fashions in systems of a single-stage compressor and flow-path systems were studied analytically and were tried to put to order. Deep surges, which enclose the stall point in the pressure-mass flow plane, tend to have either near-resonant surge frequencies or subharmonic ones. The subharmonic surge is a multiple-loop one containing, for example, in a (1/2) subharmonic one, a deep surge loop and a mild surge loop, the latter of which does not enclose the stall point, staying only within the stalled zone. Both loops have nearly equal time periods, respectively, resulting in a (1/2) subharmonic surge frequency as a whole. The subharmonic surges are found to appear in a narrow zone neighboring the stall stagnation boundary. In other words, they tend to appear in the final stage of the stall stagnation process. It should be emphasized further that the stall stagnation initiates fundamentally at the situation where a volume-modified reduced resonant-surge frequency becomes coincident with that for the stagnation boundary conditions, where the reduced frequency is defined by the acoustical resonance frequency in the flow-path system, the delivery flow-path length and the compressor tip speed, modified by the sectional area ratio and the effect of the stalling pressure ratio. The real surge frequency turns from the resonant frequency to either near-resonant one or subharmonic one, and finally to stagnation condition, for the large-amplitude conditions, caused by the non-linear self-excitation mechanism of the surge.

  • Magnetic Resonance Image represents three-dimensional diagnostic imaging technique using both nuclear magnetic resonance phenomenon and computer. Compared with computed tomography (CT), MRI have advantages harmless to patient's body, three-dimensional image with high resolution and disadvantages long data acquisition time because of long T1 relaxation time, relatively low signal to noise ratio, high cost of setting, also. As physiologic motion of tissue results in motion ghost in MRI, high 2.0Tesla make improve low signal to noise ratio. This study have aim to improve image quality with controling motion ghost of tissue. Supposing a moving pixel in constant frequency, one pixel make two ghosts which are same size and different anti-phase. So, this study will show adjust parameter on locational control of motion ghost. Author made moving phantom replaced by respiratory movement of human, researched change of motion frequency, FOV by location shift, and them decided optimal FOV (field of view). The results are as follows: 1. The frequency content of the motion determines how far the image always appear in phase-encoding direction, the morphology of the ghost image is characteristic of the direction of the motion and its amplitude. 2. Double FOV of fixed signal object for locational control of motion ghost is recommended. Decreasement of spatial resolution by increasing FOV can compensate on increasing of matrix in spite of scan time increasement.

  • The characteristics of fluid-elastic instability and effects of turbulent excitations for the KSNP steam generator tubes were investigated numerically. The information for the thermal-hydraulic data of the steam generator has been obtained by using the ATHOS3-MOD1 code and the flow-induced vibration(FIV) analysis has been conducted by using the PIAT(program for Integrity assessment of SG tube) code. The KSNP steam generator has the concentrated plugging zone at the vicinity of the stay cylinder inside the SG. To investigate the cause of the concentrated tube plugging zone, the FIV analysis has been performed for various column and row number of the steam generator tubes. From the results of FIV analysis the stability ratio due to the fluid-elastic instability and vibrational amplitude due to the turbulent excitation in the concentrated plugged zone have a trend of larger values than those of the outer concentrated tube Plugging zone.

  • This article presents a numerical investigation concerning the effect of two kinds of axially progressing internal flows (namely, upward and downward) on fluid.structure interaction (FSI) dynamics about a marine riser model which is subject to external shear current. The CAE technology behind the current research is a proposed FSI solution, which combines structural analysis software with CFD technology together. Efficiency validation for the CFD software was carried out first. It has been proved that the result from numerical simulations agrees well with the observation from relating model test cases in which the fluidity of internal flow is ignorable. After verifying the numerical code accuracy, simulations are conducted to study the vibration response that attributes to the internal progressive flow. It is found that the existence of internal flow does play an important role in determining the vibration mode (/dominant frequency) and the magnitude of instantaneous vibration amplitude. Since asymmetric curvature along the riser span emerges in the case of external shear current, the centrifugal and Coriolis accelerations owing to up- and downward internal progressive flows play different roles in determining the fluid.structure interaction response. The discrepancy between them becomes distinct, when the velocity ratio of internal flow against external shear current is relatively high.

  • The vortex-drift pattern over a girder surface, actually demonstrating the complex fluid-structure interactions between the structure and surrounding flow, is strongly correlated with the VIVs but has still not been elucidated and may be useful for modeling VIVs. The complex fluid-structure interactions between the structure and surrounding flow are considerably simplified in constructing a vortex model to describe the vortex-drift pattern characterized by the ratio of the vortex-drift velocity to the oncoming flow velocity, considering the aerodynamic work. A spring-suspended sectional model (SSSM) is used to measure the pressure in wind tunnel tests, and the aerodynamic parameters for a typical streamlined closed-box girder are obtained from the spatial distribution of the phase lags between the distributed aerodynamic forces at each pressure point and the vortex-excited forces (VEFs). The results show that the ratio of the vortex-drift velocity to the oncoming flow velocity is inversely proportional to the vibration amplitude in the lock-in region and therefore attributed to the "lock-in" phenomena of the VIVs. Installing spoilers on handrails can destroy the regular vortex-drift pattern along the girder surface and thus suppress vertical VIVs.
