Alumina Supported Ammonium Dihydrogenphosphate (NH4H2PO4/Al2O3): Preparation, Characterization and Its Application as Catalyst in the Synthesis of 1,2,4,5-Tetrasubstituted Imidazoles

  • Preparation of ammonium dihydrogenphosphate supported on alumina ($NH_4H_2PO_4/Al_2O_3$) and its primary application as a solid acid supported heterogeneous catalyst to the synthesis of 1,2,4,5-tetrasubstituted imidazoles by a one-pot, four-component condensation of benzil, aromatic aldehydes, primary amines, and ammonium acetate under thermal solvent-free conditions were described. The results showed that the novel catalyst has high activity and the desired products were obtained in high yields. Furthermore, the products could be separated simply from the catalyst, and the catalyst could be recycled and reused with only slight reduction in its catalytic activity. Characterization of the catalyst was performed by FT-IR spectroscopy, the $N_2$ adsorption/desorption analysis (BET), thermal analysis (TG/DTG), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques.

Effect of Additive Ammonium Hydroxide on ZnO Particle Properties Synthesized by Facile Glycol Process

  • ZnO particles are successfully synthesized at 150 ℃ for 30 min using zinc acetate as the Zn source and 1,4-butanediol as solvent using a relatively facile and convenient glycol process. The effect of ammonium hydroxide amounts on the growth behavior and the morphological evolution of ZnO particles are investigated. The prepared ZnO nanoparticle with hexagonal structure exhibits a quasi-spherical shape with an average crystallite size of approximately 30 nm. It is also demonstrated that the morphology of ZnO particles can be controlled by 1,4-butanediol with an additive of ammonium hydroxide. The morphologies of ZnO particles are changed sequentially from a quasi-spherical shape to a rod-like shape and a hexagonal rod shape with a truncated pyramidal tip, exhibiting preferential growth along the [001] direction with increasing ammonium hydroxide amounts. It is demonstrated that much higher OH- amounts can produce a nano-tip shape grown along the [001] direction at the corners and center of the (001) top polar plane, and a flat hexagonal symmetry shape of the bottom polar plane on ZnO hexagonal prisms. The results indicate that the presence of NH4+ and OH- ions in the solution greatly affects the growth behaviors of ZnO particles. A sharp near-band-edge (NBE) emission peak centered at 383 nm in the UV region and a weak broad peak in the visible region between 450 nm and 700 nm are shown in the PL spectra of the ZnO synthesized using the glycol process, regardless of adding ammonium hydroxide. Although the broad peak of the deep-level-emission (DLE) increases with the addition of ammonium hydroxide, it is suggested that the prominent NBE emission peaks indicate that ZnO nanoparticles with good crystallization are obtained under these conditions.

제오라이트 및 벤토나이트에 의한 수용액중 암모니아의 제거 (Removal of Ammonia from Aqueous Solutions with Zeolite and Bentonite)

  • 제오라이트와 벤토나이트 시료를 사용하여 누용액중의 암모니아 성분을 제거하기 위한 실험을 수행하였다. 실점에 사용한 제오라이트와 벤토나이트 분말은 국내업체에서 제공한 시료를 별도의 정제과정을 거치지 않고 사용하였다. 수용액 pH측정결과 암모니아 수용액의 초기 pH 5.5~5.7에서 제오라이트 혹은 벤토나이트 첨가시 pH 가 상승하어 최대 pH 8.5까지 증가하는 현상이 관찰되었다. ammonium acetate 용액을 사용한 침출법으로 제오라이트와 벤토나이트의 C.E.C.를 측정한 결과 제오라이트는 129.7 meq/100gr을 또한 벤토나이트는 65.1 meq/100 gr의 수치를 나타냈으며, 두 경우 모두 $Na^{+}$ 이온이 전체 C.E.C. 중 가장 많은 부분을 차지하였다. 제오근라이트와 벤토나이트에 의한 암모니아 제거시 순수 이온교환반웅에 의한 것과 함께 물리적 흡착에 의한 암모니아 제거현상도 동시에 나타나는 것으로 관찰되었으며, 벤토나이트 보다는 제오라이트에 의한 수용액중 암모니아 제거가 보다 효과적이었다.

EVA/Clay Nanocomposite by Solution Blending: Effect of Aluminosilicate Layers on Mechanical and Thermal Properties

  • Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA)/clay nanocomposites were synthesized by blending a solution of ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer containing 12% vinyl acetate abbreviated as EVA-12 in toluene and dispersion of dodecyl ammonium ion intercalated montmorillonite (l2Me-MMT) in N,N-dimethyl acetamide (DMAc). X-ray patterns of sodium montmorillonite ($Na^+$-MMT) and 12Me-MMT exhibited $d_{001}$ peak at $2{\theta}=7.4^{\circ}$ and $2{\theta}=5.6^{\circ}$ respectively; that is, the interlayer spacing of MMT increased by about 0.39 nm due to intercalation of dodecyl ammonium ions. The XRD trace of EVA showed no peak in the angular range of $3-10^{\circ}(2{\theta})$. In the XRD patterns of EVA/clay hybrids with clay content up to 6 wt% the basal reflection peak of 12Me-MMT was absent. leading to the formation of delaminated configuration of the composites. When the 12Me-MMT content was 8 wt% in the EVA-12 matrix, the hybrid revealed a peak at about $2{\theta}=5.6^{\circ}$, owing to the aggregation of aluminosilicate layers. Transmission electron microscopic photograph exhibited that an average size of 12-15 nm clay layers were randomly and homogeneously dispersed in the polymer matrix, which led to the formation of nanocomposite with delaminated configuration. The formation of delaminated nanocomposites was manifested through the enhancement of mechanical properties and thermal stability, e.g. tensile strength of an hybrid containing only 2 wt% 12Me-MMT was enhanced by about 36% as compared with neat EVA-12.

  • The $\alpha$,$omega$-diacrylate poly(dimethylsiloxane) (DA-PDMS) containing vinyl ester of versatic acid/vinyl acetate (Veova-10/VAc) was prepared by emulsion copolymerization of (DA-PDMS), Veova-10 (with VAc), and auxiliary agents at $85^{\circ}C$ in the presence of ammonium peroxodisulfate (APS) as an initiator. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and nonylphenol ethylene oxide-40 units (NP-40) were used as anionic and nonionic emulsifiers, respectively. The resulting copolymers were characterized by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Thermal properties of the copolymers were studied by using thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The morphology of copolymers was also investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and then the effects of variables such as temperature, agitation speed, surfactant kinds, molecular weights, initiator, and DA-PDMS concentrations on the properties of the silicone-containing Veova-10/VAc emulsions were examined. The calculation of monomer conversion versus time histories indicates that by increasing the DA-PDMS concentration the polymerization rate and the number of polymer particles decrease, respectively.

Photoproduction of Hydrogen from Acetate by Rhodopseudomonas: Effect of Culture Conditions and Sequential Dark/Light Fermentation

  • Rhodopseudomonas palustris P4 can produce $H_2$ either from CO by water-gas shift reaction or from various sugars by anaerobic fermentation. Fermentative $H_2$ production by P4 is fast, but its yield is relatively low due to the formation of various organic acids. In order to increase $H_2$ production yield from glucose, P4 was investigated for the photo-fermentation of acetate which is a major by-product of fermentative $H_2$ production. Experiments were performed in batch modes using both light-grown and dark-grown cells. When the dark-grown P4 was challenged with light and acetate, $H_2$ was produced with the consumption of acetate after a lag period of 25 h. $H_2$ production was inhibited when a nitrogen source, especially ammonium, is present. When the dark-fermentation broth containing acetate was adopted for photo-fermentation with light-grown cells, $H_2$ production and concomitant acetate consumption occurred without a lag period. The $H_2$ yield was estimated as 2.4 - 2.8 mol $H_2/mol$ acetate and the specific $H_2$ production rate was as 9.8 ml $H_2/g$ cell${\cdot}$h, The fact that a single strain can perform both dark- and light-fermentation gives a great advantage in process development Compared to a one-step dark-fermentation, the combined dark- and light-fermentation can increase the $H_2$ production yield on glucose by two-fold.

수열 합성법에 의한 Zinc Oxide의 제조 및 Tartrazine 분해 특성 (Preparation of Zinc Oxide by Hydrothermal Precipitation and Degradation of Tartrazine)

  • 암모니아수와 zinc acetate로부터 액상 수열합성법에 의한 ZnO의 제조에 있어 반응온도, 반응물의 농도와 혼합방법, 용액의 pH 등 반응조건에 따른 ZnO 입자의 형상과 입자분포 등 제조특성을 고찰하고, UV 조사하에 tartrazine의 광분해를 측정하여 합성된 ZnO의 광촉매로서의 성능을 확인하였다. 반응용액의 pH가 높을수록 ZnO 입자의 평균 크기는 증가하였고, zinc acetate의 농도가 증가할수록 그리고 반응온도가 증가할수록 입자의 크기는 감소하였다. 반응용액의 혼합시 암모니아수 주입 후에 zinc acetate를 첨가하였을 경우 더 작은 입자를 얻을 수 있었다. 최소 크기의 ZnO 입자의 생성을 위한 최적 조건은 용액의 pH 11.2, zinc acetate의 농도 0.6 M, 반응온도 $90^{\circ}C$였으며, 입자 평균크기는 3.133 ${\mu}$m이었다. 합성온도 $80^{\circ}C$, zinc acetate 농도 1.0M 및 반응용액의 pH 11.2의 조건에서 합성된 ZnO에 의한 tartrazine의 광촉매 분해는 분해시간 60분에서 약 97%의 분해율을 보였다.

신균주 Rhodococcus sp. YSPW01과 YSPW02를 이용한 수중 내 고농도 Perchlorate 환원 특성 연구 (Reduction of Highly Concentrated Perchlorate in Aqueous Medium by Newly Isolated Bacterial Strains Rhodococcus sp. YSPW01 and YSPW02)

  • 수중 내 함유된 고농도 perchlorate의 환원가능성을 perchlorate 환원 미생물인 신균주 Rhodococcus sp. YSPW01과 YSPW02로 검토하였다. Perchlorate 환원 미생물은 혐기소화조 슬러지에서 분리 배양하였으며, perchlorate 환원능을 검토하기 위해 전자공여체인 acetate를 사용하였다. YSPW01과 YSPW02는 perchlorate $82mg\;L^{-1}$와 acetate $550mg\;L^{-1}$에서 회분식 실험을 수행하였을 때, 반응 26시간과 9시간 후 각각 정상상태에 도달하였다. 이 때 perchlorate 환원은 8, 7시간 이내에 초기농도 $82mg\;L^{-1}$에서 검출한계 이하($10{\mu}g\;L^{-1}$)까지 제거되었다. 반응조 내에 acetate:perchlorate (w:w)비를 1:1에서 5:1로 증가한 결과, perchlorate의 제거 속도는 YSPW01과 YSPW02 모두 2.1, $3.2mg\;L^{-1}h^{-1}$에서 15, $15.5mg\;L^{-1}h^{-1}$로 약 4.5배 증가하였고, 최종 perchlorate는 검출한계 이하까지 제거되었다. 본 연구결과, Rhodococcus sp. YSPW01 및 YSPW02는 고농도 perchlorate 제거에 적합하며, 신균주를 고농도 perchlorate 제거를 위한 생물학적 처리공정에 응용가능 할 것으로 판단된다.

산-염기 적정 시스템의 비선형 회귀분석에 관한 고찰 (Nonlinear Regression Analysis of Acid-Base Titration System)

  • In classical titrimetric analyses, the major concern is the concentration of titrant, usually the aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide, that could be changed as time goes by and it is accompanied with the inaccuracy of the resulting data. And the statistical approach, the nonlinear regression analysis, which is a well-known statistical method, was introduced to determine the accurate concentration of the titrant and the exact value of parameters, $K_a$, r, $C_a$, $C_b$, for 0.01 M aqueous solutions of analytes, sodium pyruvate, sodium acetate, sodium bicarbonate, ammonium hydroxide, ammonium chloride and acetic acid at $25^{\circ}C$. We used Gauss-Newton method for the linearlization of the nonlinear titration system and the two-parameter fitting showed appreciable convergent data for the parameters of the analytes set with the various range of $K_a$ value.

Determination of Chromium(VI) by Differential-Pulse Polarography with a Sodium Borate Supporting Electrolyte

  • A suituable choice of supporting electrolyte medium for trace level determinations of chromium(VI) by differential pulse polarography is described. A comparative study suggests that sodium borate buffer is superior to ammonium acetate, ammonium tartrate, and especially to NaF which was recently known to be one of the most proper medium for the purpose. With 0.01 M borate, the best combination of high sensitivity, well-defined base line, and freedom from common interferents was attained. With $5.0{\times}10^{-7}$M Cr(VI), tenfold excesses of Cu(II) and Fe(III), and a five hundred-fold excess of $Cl^-$ do not change the peak current by more than about 1%. And the detection limit was $5.0{\times}10^{-8}$M Cr(VI).
