  • In order to investigate the effects of ammonium citrate and ammonium succinate on the growth and absorption of nitrogen compounds supplied in the medium, Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer) calli were suspension cultured in MS medium with various concentrations of ammonium citrate and ammonium succinate. When Korean ginseng calli were cultured with 10 mM ammonium citrate, 10 mM ammonium succinate, and 10 mM ammonium nitrate (control) in MS media as the nitrogen sources, the growth, $NO_3$-N absorption and total nitrogen content of the Korean ginseng cells were greatest in the ammonium citrate and ammonium succinate concentrations. When Korean ginseng calli were cultured with 5 mM ammonium citrate and 5 mM ammonium succinate, the growth and nitrogen content were superior to those of the control: however, $NO_3$-N and $NH_4$-N absorptions were similar to those of the control. In conclusion, the 10 mM ammonium citrate and 10 mM ammonium succinate may be better able to facilitate the growth and $NO_3$

  • Veneer plate was painted by the treatment with ammonium salts such as ammonium chloride (AMCR), ammonium sulfate (AMSF), monoammonium phosphate (MAPP), and diammonium phosphate (DAPP) at room temperature. The flame retardancy of painted veneer plate was investigated. The painted veneer plate shows an increased $CO/CO_2$ over virgin veneer and it was supposed to affect the toxicity to different extents. But when the ammonium salts were used as the retardant for veneer, the flame retardancy was improved due to the painted ammonium salts in the veneers. Also, the veneer plates with ammonium sulfate and ammonium chloride showed both the lower total smoke release (TSR) and lower total smoke production (TSP) than that of virgin veneer.

  • Veneer plate was painted by the treatment with ammonium salts such as ammonium chloride (AMCR), ammonium sulfate (AMSF), monoammonium phosphate (MAPP), and diammonium phosphate (DAPP) at room temperature. The physical property and flammability of painted veneer plate were investigated. In order to evaluate flammability of the treated veneer with ammonium salts, heat release rate (HRR) of the veneer was measured by a cone calorimeter according to ISO 5660-1 standard. The flammability painted veneener plate with ammonium salts was reduced compared to virgin veneer plate. The flashover possibility of veneer plates treated with these ammonium salts was examined by R. V. Petrella's classification using time to ignition and peak heat release rate. The specific gravities of veneer plates treated with only ammonium sulfate were higher than that of virgin veneer plate. Also, the veneer plates treated with ammonium salts showed lower equilibrium moisture contents over virgin veneer.

  • This study was performed to test the flame retardancy of zelkova sarrata-based materials by the treatment of ammonium salts. Zelkova sarrata plate was soaked by the treatment with three 20 wt% ammonium salt solutions consisting ammonium chloride (AMSL), monoammonium phosphate (MAPP), and diammonium phosphate (DAPP), respectively, at the room temperature. After the drying specimen treated with chemicals, combustion properties were examined by the cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1). When the ammonium salts were used as the retardant for zelkova sarrata, the flame retardancy improved due to the treated ammonium salts in the virgin zelkova sarrata. However the specimen shows increasing CO over virgin zelkova sarrata and It is supposed that toxicities depend on extents. Also, the specimen with ammonium salts showed the higher total smoke release (TSR) than that of virgin plate. Of specimens treated with ammonium salts the ammonium chloride handled the test side was considered a improved inhibitory effect of combustion.

  • Nitrogen is one of the most important mineral elements for plant growth. We studied the functional roles of Oryza sativa DNA BINDING WITH ONE FINGER 18 (OsDOF18) in controlling ammonium uptake. The growth of null mutants of OsDOF18 was retarded in a medium containing ammonium as the sole nitrogen source. In contrast, those mutants grew normally in a medium with nitrate as the sole nitrogen source. The gene expression was induced by ammonium but not by nitrate. Uptake of ammonium was lower in osdof18 mutants than in the wild type, while that of nitrate was not affected by the mutation. This indicated that OsDOF18 is involved in regulating ammonium transport. Among the 10 ammonium transporter genes examined here, expression of OsAMT1;1, OsAMT1;3, OsAMT2;1, and OsAMT4;1 was reduced in osdof18 mutants, demonstrating that the ammonium transporter genes function downstream of OsDOF18. Genes for nitrogen assimilation were also affected in the mutants. These results provide evidence that OsDOF18 mediates ammonium transport and nitrogen distribution, which then affects nitrogen use efficiency.

  • Automatic addition of glucose and ammonium to an alcohol distille깨 wastewater and the control of them at low $\infty$ncentration were tried to efficiently increase the cell concentration of a baker's yeast c비tivated in that wastewater. Added g glucose was indirectly controlled to less than 116 mg/L by a method which used DO as control parameter. Ammonium was a automatically measured and controlled within the range of 7.0~27.7 mM by a homemade on-line system which adopted FIA a as measurement method. Maximum specific growth rate and biomass yield to glucose were $0.21 hr^{-1}$ and about 0.78 g/g, w which were significantly increased values in contrast to those of an experiment without ammonium control. Biomass yield to a ammonium was 11.3 gIg. Cell cone엉ntration could be increased from 2.6 g/L to 18.5 g/L by the add ion of glucose and a ammonium.

  • The purpose of the experiment was to determine the effect of nitrogen sources (urea, ammonium sulphate, ammonium nitrate) and potassium sources (potassium chloride, potassium sulphate) on the growth and quality of Zoysia japonica Steud. This experiment was conducted at Seoul City University turf field from 1988 to 1989. The results of this experiment were summarized as follows; 1. Urea and Ammonium sulphate resulted in superior clipping yield compared to ammonium nitrate. The growth of rhizome and stolon increased significantly with urea forms, but ammonium sulphate treated plots exhibited the highest the growth rate of root. 2. Ammonium sulphate showed best turf color rating while ammonium nitrate resulted in the poorest. Prolongation of the green period showed longer in ammonium sulphate and urea treated plots than ammoium nitrate. 3. Urea and ammonium sulphate exhibited superior visible quality and shoot density compared to ammonium nitrate. 4. The uptake of mineral nutrient showed the highest concentration with urea plots. Surface soil pH was allowed to become slightly acid with the ammonium sulphate and potassium sulphate treatments, while the application of N and K sources did not cause significant differences in mineral element content in soil.

  • The effects of important medium components such as carbon, nitrogen sources and amino acids on the production of cyclosporin A(CyA) were investigated in an immobilized fungal cell fermentation using Tolypocladium inflatum. As carbon sources in the synthetic medium, fructose and maltose stimulated CyA production remarkably compared to glucose when ammonium sulfate was supplemented as a nitrogen source. In the absence of ammonium sulfate in the medium, however, CyA biosynthesis was reduced considerably without regard to C-sources tested. Ammonium sulfate was found to be the best N-source, and also ammonium phosphate and ammonium citrate showed some positive effects on CyA production. Optimum concentration of ammonium sulfate was 10g/L, and supplementation of ammonium sulfate at the start of fermentation was found to be the most efficacious for maximal production of CyA. Among the constituent amino acids of cyclic peptide, CyA, L-valine had the most significant effect on the biosynthesis of CyA, and maximum CyA production was observed when 10 g/L of L-valine was initially added.

  • As the concentration of ammonium nitrogen could be reached 2~3 mg/L in the winter in the river. It was clear that the excessive concentration of chlorinated organics could be produced with the increase of chlorine addition to remove ammonium nitrogen. In the innovative ammonium nitrogen removal process, zeolite adsorption is very efficient as substitute for rapid sand filtration without other adverse quality change in the water. This study is conducted to evaluate the feasibility of ammonium nitrogen removal and regeneration by zeolite adsorption in drinking water treatment. Also, the reuse possibility of zeolite is evaluated to change the removal efficiency of ammonium nitrogen through several times of regeneration. The ammonium nitrogen was not removed in sand filter, but it was almost removed in zeolite filter during 7 days. The sand and zeolite filters have a similar result of turbidity removal. Therefore, zeolite filtration was confirmed the removal of turbidity and ammonium nitrogen as a media. When compared KCl with NaCl as a chemical for zeolite regeneration, it is demonstrated that KCl was more efficient than NaCl in the ability of zeolite regeneration. The adsorption rate of ammonium nitrogen was almost not decreased in the results of several times of regeneration. It is indicated that both zeolite and regeneration solution were possible to reuse without variation of regeneration rate through this study.

  • This paper was to investigate the preparation of quaternary ammonium polysulfone. The aminated polysullone (AMPS) as quaternary ammonium polysulfone was synthesized by two-step process. The first step involves the preparation of chloromethylated polysulfone (CMPS) which was produced by the introducion of chloromethyl group into polysulfone using chloromethyl methyl ether as a chloromethylation agent and zinc oxide as a catalyst. The second step, amination of CMPS was to give rise to AMPS using triethylamine.
