Polyaramide-Imide from N-Phenylphthalimide-Containing Diamine and Dicarboxylic Acid I. Synthesis and Thermal Properties (N-Phenylphthalimide를 포함하는 디아민과 디카르복시산으로 제조된 폴리아라미드-이미드 I. 제조와 열적 성질)

  • Imide-containing diamine and dicarboxylic acid monomers, N-(4-aminophenyl)-4-aminophthalimide(APAP), N-(4-carboxyphenyl)-4-carboxyphthalimide(CPCP), N,N'-oxydiphenylenebis(4-aminophthalimide)(ODPAP) and N,N'-oxydiphenylenebis(4-carboxyphthalimide)(ODPCP) were prepared. Poly(amide-imide)s were prepared by condensation reaction of the diamine and the dicarboxylic acid monomers. Poly(amide-imide)s were also prepared from the diamine monomers and aromatic acid chlorodes such as terephthaloyl chloride and isophthaloyl chloride. The polymers possess inherent viscosity of 0.18~0.67 dL/g and brittle films were cast from NMP/LiCl solution. The poly(amide-imide)s are easily soluble in NMP/LiCl and also partially soluble in polar aprotic solvents such as DMF, DMSO, NMP and DMAc even at $80^{\circ}C$. DSC traces of polymers showed no glass transition temperature and melting temperature, and TGA traces showed a 10% weight loss at $500^{\circ}C$.

Photo-Assisted Sondegradation of Hydrogels in the Presence of TiO2 Nanoparticles

  • The degradation of one of the commercially important hydrogel based on acrylic acid and acryl amide, (acrylic acid-co-acryl amide) hydrogels, by means of ultrasound irradiation and its combination with heterogeneous ($TiO_2$) was investigated. 24 kHz of ultrasound irradiation was provided by a sonicator, while an ultraviolet source of 16 W was used for UV irradiation. The extent of sonolytic degradation increased with increasing ultrasound power (in the range 30-80 W). $TiO_2$ sonophotocatalysis led to complete (acrylic acid-co-acryl amide) hydrogels degradation with increasing catalyst loading, while, the presence of $TiO_2$ in the dark generally had little effect on degradation. Therefore, emphasis was totally on the sonolytic and sonophotocatalytic degradation of hydrogels and a synergy effect was calculated for combined degradation procedures (Ultrasound and Ultraviolet) in the presence of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles. $TiO_2$ sonophotocatalysis was always faster than the respective individual processes due to the enhanced formation of reactive radicals as well as the possible ultrasound-induced increase of the active surface area of the catalyst. A kinetics model based on viscosity data was used for estimation of degradation rate constants at different conditions and a negative order for the dependence of the reaction rate on total molar concentration of (acrylic acid-co-acryl amide) hydrogels solution within the degradation process was suggested.

Extraction and characterization of pepsin-soluble collagen from different mantis shrimp species

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the yield and characteristics of collagen protein extracted from the muscle of four different species of mantis shrimp: Miyakella nepa, Harpiosquilla harpax, Erugosquilla woodmasoni, and Odontodactylus cultrifer. Mantis shrimp muscle was extracted by using a pepsin-solubilization technique, with 0.5 M acetic acid and 5% pepsin enzyme. The highest collagen yield was from M. nepa muscle (0.478 ± 0.06%), which was significantly greater (p < 0.05) than that from H. harpax, O. cultrifer, and E. woodmasoni (0.313 ± 0.03%, 0.123 ± 0.02%, and 0.015 ± 0.00%, respectively). The freeze-dried collagen appeared as thin fibers, and formed an opaque film. The pepsin-soluble collagen (PSC) from four mantis shrimp species was analyzed by gel electrophoresis. The results showed that all species of mantis shrimp contained type I collagen, consisting of β, α1, and α2 subunits with average molecular weights of 250, 145, and 118 kDa, respectively. The study of the solubility of collagen showed that, for NaCl, collagen had the highest relative solubility in 2% NaCl (80.20 ± 4.95%). In contrast, the solubility decreased at higher NaCl concentrations. However, in terms of pH, collagen had the highest relative solubility at pH 3 (91.32 ± 5.14%), and its solubility decreased at higher pH. FT-IR spectroscopy was used to compare the collagen with a model compound. Five wavenumbers in the spectrum for model collagen were identified: Amide A (3,406-3,421 cm-1), amide B (2,916-2,940 cm-1), amide I (1,639-1,640 cm-1), amide II (1,539-1,570 cm-1), and amide III (1,234-1,250 cm-1).

EFFECTS OF UREA NITROGEN ON THE METABOLISM OF PLANTS (1) Studies on Nitrogen Absorption and Metabolism in Sunflower Leavessprayed with Urea Solution

  • In order to detect the way of absorption and metaboism of the urea it is sprayed on the surface of the leaves of sunflower. The sunflowers used in this study are grown in different conditions such that the one in nittogen aboundant and the other in nitrogen deficient soil, respectively. The urea-N, ammonia-N, amide-N, and 80% alcohol soluble-N in the leaves were quantitatively determined. All of the nitrogenous components measured are generally tended to increased with rising the concentration of urea except only amide-N at 24 hours after sprayed, and these were highly significances. It seemed that hydrolizing of urea into ammonia and carbon dixide and the assimilation of ammonia into other organic nitrogenous constituents were rapid in the young leaves than in the mature. It is interest that the amide content, in the young leaves and nitrogen defieient one were enhanced with the increasing concentration of urea, although in the mature leaves it did not show any change in the urea treatment. It is presumed that the assimilation rate of ammonia and the urease activity were lower in the matture leaves than in the young and nitrogen deficient leaves. No significance at 5% level showed all of the nitrogenous components except total nitrogen between nitrogen abundant and deficent leaves. Urea content was a high peak at first 12 hours, ammonia at 48 hours, and amide and alcohol soluble nitrogen at 96 hours, whence decrease4d the content of these constituents gradually. The total nitrogen content is not incrased obviously by only one time of urea spray in this study. When the concentration of urea was relatively high there appeared the wilting spots on t도 edge of leaves. As a whole, it seemed that sprayed urea was rapidly absorbed and taken part in nitrogen metabolism within relatively short period.

A Study on Nitrogen Forms in Forest Soils (삼림토양(森林土壤)의 질소(窒素)의 존재형태(存在形態)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • The composition of the nitrogen forms of the organic layer and mineral soil horizons of 8 differing soil type was measured to find a clue to elucidate the problem on the fertility and nitrogen availabilities of forest soils. The ratio of inorganic $N(NH_4-N+NO_3-N)$ to total N was very low in every 0 layer and its maximum was only about 2%. And the inorganic N concentration of every mineral soil horizon was low, and the maximum of its rate to N was 3.7% in surface horizon and about 4.1% in lower horizon. Organic N form of O layer were characterized by the decrease of aminoacid-N, and the increased of hexosamine-N and amide-N according to the advance of decomposing process. The ranges of hydrolyzable-N of every flesh litter, F and H layer of the selected soils were about 80-90% and they- were hardly affected by the differences of tree species and decomposing process. The organic N form of every litter was similar and it was follows : aminoacid-N was not abundant and it ranges were about 40-50%, more than half of hydrolyzable-N. The hexosamine-N was eery poor and it ranged to only 2-7%. The amide-N teas low and about 10-23%. No distinguished difference was seen between the organic N forms of the O layer and surface horizon of dry and wet soils in brown forest soils.

Clinical Features of Acute Acetanilide Herbicide Poisoning (급성 아세트아닐라이드계 제초제 중독의 임상 분석)

  • Purpose: Acetanilide has been in widespread use as an amide herbicide compound. However, available data regarding acute human poisoning is scarce. The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical characteristics of acetanilide poisoning in order to identify the risk factors associated with severity. Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study encompassing the period January 2005 to December 2010, including adult ED patients suffering from acetanilide intoxication. Toxicological history, symptoms observed, clinical signs of toxicity, and laboratory test results were collected for each patient. The patients were classified into two groups for analysis, according their poisoning severity score (PSS). Resulting clinical data and prognostic variables were compared between mild-to-moderate poisoning (PSS 1/2 grades), and severe poisonings and fatalities (PSS 3/4 grades). Results: There were a total of 37 patients, including 26 alachlor, 6 s-metolachlor, 4 mefenacet, and 1 butachlor cases. The majority of patients (81.1%) were assigned PSS 1/2 grades. Changes in mental status and observation of adverse neurologic symptoms were more common in the PSS 3/4 group. The median ingested volume of amide herbicide compound was 250 ml (IQR 200-300 ml) in the PSS 3/4 group, and 80 ml (IQR 50-138 ml) in the PSS 1/2 group. Also, the median GCS observed in the PSS 3/4 group was 13 (IQR 10-14), which was markedly low as compared to a median GCS of 15 in the PSS 1/2 group. Overall mortality rate was 5.4%, and profound cardiogenic shock was observed prior to death in all fatalities. Conclusion: When compared to previous reports, acute acetanilide poisoning resulted in relatively moderate severity. The presence of neurologic manifestations, hypotension, lower GCS score, and larger ingested volumes was associated with more serious effects and mortalities.

  • High performance liquid chromatographic method using a TSK-gel amide 80 column and isocratic elution with acetonitrile-water (63 :35 ;v/v) mixture was used for the separation and the quantitation of fructo (GF2-GF7)- and inulo-oligosaccharides (F2-F4). Retention time of each standard carbohydrate was highly reproducible. Standardization curves obtained by plotting the peak areas against the amounts of each carbohydrate showed very high coefficient of determination$({\ge}0.9884)$ and similar slopes, and a wide range of y-intercepts. Our results suggest the use of each Pure oligosaccharide for its own standardization curve instead of using a certain carbohydrate as an internal standard.

  • Bulk GaN crystals were grown by the basic ammonothermal method. The c-plane GaN templates grown by hydride vapor phase epitaxy were used as seed crystals and sodium metal, amide, and azide were added as a mineralizer. The growth conditions are at temperatures from $500{\sim}600^{\circ}C$ and pressures from 2~3 kbar. The growth rate for the c-axis was increased with increasing the operating pressure. Average dislocation density was measured $1{\times}10^5/cm^2$ by the cathodoluminescence measurement. The full-width at half-maximum of the X-ray diffraction rocking curve for (002) reflection was approximately 270 arcsec for Ga face and 80 arcsec for N face.

  • Cu(400$\AA$)/Polyimide has been mixed with 80 keV Ar+ and N2+from 1.0X1015ions/$\textrm{cm}^2$ to 2.0X1016 ions/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The changes of chemical bond and internal properties of sample are investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). The quantitative adhesion strength is measured by using scratch test. The optimized mixing condition is that Cu/PI is irradiated with 80 keV N2+ at a dose of 1.0X1015 ions/$\textrm{cm}^2$, because N2+ ions can product more pyridine-like moiety, amide group, and tertiary amine moiety which are known as adesion promoters than Ar+.
