The purpose of this study was to provide the accurate information on improvement of visual life by examining old age's eye refraction state and investigating distribution of ametropia in old age. The test was performed the visual acuity test by object and subject methods to over 60 years of age. The results were as follows: 1. As the result to investigate the inconvenience degree of visual life, the subjects appealed 81% for very inconvenience and 14% for a little inconvenience. 5% of them didn't feel any inconvenience in visual life. 2. The eye types were 1.7% for emmetropia, 10% for myopia, 74.7% for hyperopia, and 13.6% mixed astigmatism, respectively. 3. The axis of astigmatisms were 65% positive for indirect astigmatism, 8% for direct astigmatism, and 27% for oblique astigmatism, respectively.
Purpose: This study is aimed at finding the conditions of ametropia of adults in the Philippines and the South Korean. Methods: The study objects were 7,695(15,390 eyes) Koreans and 2,256(4,512 eyes) Philippines who visited optic clinics and took refraction test. The distributions of their hypermetropias and myopias about astigmatisms were examined, using the method of equivalent spherical power. When astigmatisms were marked in S-C, cylinder lens diopter and astigmatism axis, presbyopic additions and pupillary distances were analyzed by comparison respectively. Results: Among ametropias of Koreans myopias and hypermetropias were 93.69% and 6.31% respectively and about ametropias of Philippines myopia and hypermetropias were 73.43% and 26.57% respectively. As for spherical equivalent power about Koreans, the results showed that Koreans marked -3.352 D about myopia and Philippines marked -2.213 D about it. There is a gap of -1.139 D between them. About hypermetropia Koreans marked 1.147 D and Philippines, 1.251 D and their gap is 0.104 D. As for ametropia of Koreans there is 49.86% in middle myopia, 32.28% about low myopia, 11.55% about high myopia, and 5.54% about low hypermetropia, 0.75% about middle hypermetropia. As for it about Philippines there is 44.53% in low myopia, 25.11% about middle myopia, 3.79% high myopia and 23.03% low hypermetropia, and 3.51% low hypermetropia respectively. As for cylinder lens there is differences of 0.194 D and 0.22 D between Korean and Philippine for both sexes. Totally Koreans have higher cylinders of 0.175 D than Philippines. As for astigmatism, Koreans have direct astigmatism, inverse astigmatism, and oblique astigmatism in their suffering sequence. As for Philippines, they have direct astigmatism, inverse stigmatism, and oblique astigmatism in their abnormal sequence, and they have higher oblique stigmatism than Koreans. As for presbyopic addition, Philippines have higher distributions than Koreans, and 0.296 D is higher in average. As for pupillary distance, Koreans have longer distance of 0.97 mm in man and 0.63 mm in women than Philippines. Conclusions: As for ametropia, Koreans and Philippines have more myopias than hypermetropias, but Philippines have more rates of hypermetropias than Koreans. And Philippines have more presbyopic additions. Koreans have higher morbidity of inverse astigmatism, and Philippines have higher morbidity of oblique astigmatism comparatively. As for pupillary distance, Koreans have longer length in the body characteristics. This shows that geographical circumstances have much to do with refraction conditions of eyes.
In this study, by using the eye model of NAVARRO, KOOIJMAN, MAHKICHOONG, the properties of optical system are reserched in a finite ray tracing method, when ametropia is corrected by glasses or contact lens, this study is useful as a reference. Also, when Auto-refractometer for refraction test and Keratomeler are designed, these eye models can be used.
According to Korean pharmaceutic law, spectacles is a kind of medical device or instrument that is composed of a front and two temples with a pair of lenses. If the spectacle is not worn, it is a kind of optical device, but if it were worn, it will makes a new optical system to correct ametropia. Therefore, spectacles must be carried on by dispensing opticians.
To investigate the ametropia and refractive error of 364 ametropic eyes en the 182 high school students in Jeonbuk provicne, the visual acuity test was performed by the object and subject method. The results were as follows. 1. The eye types were 85.7% positive for myopia, 6.6% for emmetropia and 7.6% hyperopia, respectively. 2. The abnormal refraction eyes were 30.8% positive for simple myopia, 58.5% for myopia compound astigmatism, 7.5% for myopia simple astigmatism, and 1.8% for simple hyperopia, 1.3% for hyperopia compound astigmatism, 1.9% for hyperopia simple astigmatism, respectively. 3. The axes of astigmatism were 78.7% for astigmatism with-the-rule, 13.9% for astigmatism against-the-rule, 7.4% for astigmatism oblique, respectively. 4. As for the astigmatic power, the 0.50 < cylinder < 1.00dptr was 60.0%, the 1.00 < cylinder < 2.00dptr was 29.2%, and anything over the 2.00cylinder dptr was 10.8%. 5. As for the equivalent spheric power of myopic abnormal refraction eyes, the -0.50 < spheric equivalent < -2.00 diopter was 64.6%, the -2.00 < spheric equivalent < -6.00 dptr was 29.1% and anything over the -6.00 dptr was 6%. 6. The equivalent spheric power of hyperopic abnormal refraction eyes was 50% anything under 2.00diopter and 50% for anything over the 2.00diopter.
The purpose of this research was to measurement real Accommodative response amount using both eyes open-view autorefractometer. Compared each Accommodative response amount to distinction of sex, age, kind of ametropia, amount of astigmatism and kind of astigmatism. The subjects were 153 healthy men and women between the age of 20~80 years. Age comparison, 20 years 1.15D, 30 years 1.23D and above 40 years 0.60D. It was no difference between 20 to 30 years old. But, is decrescent remarkably above 40 years old. Ametropia examined by hypermetropia 1.78D, emmetropia 1.51D, low myopia 1.08D, middle myopia 0.72D, high myopia 0.643D. Myopia increased, Accommodative response amount was expose that decrease. Astigmatism examined by non astigmatism 1.13D, low astigmatism 1.12D, middle astigmatism 0.85D, high astigmatism 0.83D. Astigmatism increased, Accommodative response amount was expose that decrease. The sex and astigmatism type difference appeared with the fact that the result is not a difference.
This research was investigated to find out the examinees' refractive problems within heterophoria using Torrington method. The number of subjects ware approximately 327 and subjects were sourced from the 12th grade student at high school in Kwang-Ju city. Result obtained shows 21.4% of emmetropia and 78.6% of ametropia. Most of refractive errors were myopia and due to it's condition, frequency of ametropia and emmetropia at the similar rate. However, one that consist of refractive problems, it's myopia contains 74.9% of heterophoria. Due to emmetropia, horizontal heterophoria have 45.7% of exophoria and 4.3% of esophoria. Myopia shows 11.4% of esophoria and 63.5% of exophoria. Hozizonda heterophoria shows 5.7% of emmetropia and myopia of 22.4%, than average of esophoria shows $4.3P{\Delta}$ and case of myopia, it was $3.4P{\Delta}$. Case of Exphoria, emmetropia have $8.8P{\Delta}$ and within myopia $8.0P{\Delta}$. Vertical heterophoria owns $2.2P{\Delta}$ within emmetropia and case of myopia $4.3P{\Delta}$ was shown. Which shows myopia result value higher than emmetropia.
Purpose: To assess the refractive state of the westerners (male: 44, female: 62) in twenties who visited the A optical shop at Seoul. Methods: The visual acuity test was performed by the objective and subjective method. Results: The emmetropia and myoptia were 35 and 177 eyes (83.49%), respectively. About 26.76% of tested males was ametropia. Myopia compound and myopia simple astigmatism were found in 60.56% and 12.68% of tested males, respectively. However, about 43.40% of tested females was ametropia. Myopia compound and myopia simple astigmatism were 49.06% and 7.55% were found in tested females, respectively. As for the equivalent spheric power of myopic abnormal refractive eyes, the -0.5D < spheric equivalent ${\leq}$ -2.00D was 35.02% of tested westerners, the -2.00D < spheric equivalent ${\leq}$ -6.00D was 60.45% and anything over the -6.00D was 4.53%. The percentages of with-the-rule, against-the-rule and oblique astigmatism among people with astigmatism were 59.82%, 26.78% and 13.40%, respectively. The average of pupillary distance in male (63.5${\pm}$2.4 mm) was greater than that in female (59.7${\pm}$2.3 mm). Conclusions: Korean opticians were provided some useful information about making up a prescription for the westerners in twenties by this research.
We investigated the dominant eye of 123 Korean over twenty years old, then examined the refractive correlation of dominant eye, the unaided visual acuity and over-correlation. The results of these investigations are following. 91 persons of the whole number, 74%, have the dominant eye of right. The refractive correlation to the glasses are the high dominant eye. There are many men who are the same in unaided visual acuity. In men, they prefer to have the non-dominant eye but in women, they like better to have the dominant eye. The unaided visual acuity of ametropia, however, prefer to have the non-dominant eye in both men and women. In case of over-correction of an eye, there was affected the response of the other eye over 50% at the same time and the case of over-correction of dominant eye has more number than that of non-dominant eye.
Due to the rapid advancement of auto-refractor technology, most optometry shops provide refraction services. Despite their speed and convenience, the measurement values provided by auto-refractors include a significant degree of error due to psychological and physical factors. Therefore, there is a need for repetitive testing to obtain a smaller mean error value. However, even repetitive testing itself might not be sufficient to ensure accurate measurements. Therefore, research on a method of measurement that can complement auto-refractor measurements and provide confirmation of refraction results needs to be conducted. The customized optometry model described herein can satisfy the above requirements. With existing technologies, using human eye measurement devices to obtain relevant individual optical feature parameters is no longer difficult, and these parameters allow us to construct an optometry model for individual eyeballs. They also allow us to compute visual images produced from the optometry model using the CODE V macro programming language before recognizing the diffraction effects visual images with the neural network algorithm to obtain the accurate refractive diopter. This study attempts to combine the optometry model with the back-propagation neural network and achieve a double check recognition effect by complementing the auto-refractor. Results show that the accuracy achieved was above 98% and that this application could significantly enhance the service quality of refraction.
