  • In this paper, we propose an efficient satellite selection method for multi-constellation GNSS. The number of visible satellites has increased dramatically recently due to multi-constellation GNSS. By the increased availability, the overall GNSS performance can be improved. Whereas, due to the increase of the number of visible satellites, the computational burden in implementing advanced processing such as integer ambiguity resolution and fault detection can be increased considerably. As widely known, the optimal satellite selection method requires very large computational burden and its real-time implementation is practically impossible. To reduce computational burden, several sub-optimal but efficient satellite selection methods have been proposed recently. However, these methods are prone to the local optimum problem and do not fully utilize the information redundancy between different constellation systems. To solve this problem, the proposed method utilizes the inter-system biases and geometric assignments. As a result, the proposed method can be implemented in real-time, avoids the local optimum problem, and does not exclude any single-satellite constellation. The performance of the proposed method is compared with the optimal method and two popular sub-optimal methods by a simulation and an experiment.

  • Recently, the demand of broadband communications such as high-speed internet, HDTV, 3D-HDTV and ATM backbone network has been increased drastically. For transmitting the broad-bandwidth data using wireless network, it is needed to use ka-band frequency. However, the use of this ka-band frequency is seriously affected to the received data performance by rain fading and atmospheric propagation loss at the Ka-band satellite communication link. So, we need adaptive MODEM to endure the degraded performance by channel environment. In this paper, we will present the structure and design of the 155Mbps adaptive Modem adaptively compensated against channel environment. In order to compensate the rain attenuation over the ka-band wireless channel link, the adaptive coding schemes with variable coding rates and the multiple modulation schemes such as trellis coded 8-PSK, QPSK, and BPSK are adopted. And the blind demodulation scheme is proposed to demodulate without Information of modulation mode at the multi-mode demodulator, and the fast phase ambiguity resolving scheme is proposed. The design and simulation results of adaptive Modem by SPW model are provided. This 155Mbps adaptive MODEM was designed and implemented by single ASIC chip with the $0.25\mu{m}$ CMOS standard cell technology and 950 thousand gates.

  • Despite the advantage of unlimited access, there are insufficient studies for the accuracy and stability of FKP that blocks the spread of the system for various applications. Therefore, we performed a long-term analysis from continuous real-time positioning, and investigated the error characteristics dependent on the size and the surrounding environment. The FKP shows significant changes in the positioning accuracy at different times of day, where the accuracy during daytime is worse than that of nighttime. In addition, the size and deviation of FKP correction may change with the ionospheric conditions, and high correlation between ambiguity resolution rate and the deviation of correction was observed. The receivers continuously request the correction information in order to cope with sudden variability of ionosphere. On the other hand, the correction information was not received up to an hour in case of stable ionospheric condition. It is noteworthy that the outliers of FKP are clustered in their position with some biases. Since several meters of errors can be occurred for kinematic positioning with FKP, therefore, it is necessary to make appropriate preparation for real-time applications.

  • A two-color particle image velocimetry (PIV) has been developed for measuring two dimensional velocity flowfields and applied to a Mach 2.0 supersonic nozzle. This technique is similar to a single-color PIV technique except that two different color laser beams are used to solve the directional ambiguity problem. A green-color laser sheet (532 nm: 2nd harmonic beam of YAG laser) and a red-color laser sheet (619 nm: output beam from YAG pumped Dye laser using Rhodamine 640) are employed to illuminate the seeded particles. A high resolution (3060${\times}$2036) digital color CCD camera is used to record the particle positions. This system eliminates the photographic-film processing time and subsequent digitization time as well as the complexities associated with conventional image shifting techniques for solving directional ambiguity problem. The two-color PIV also has the advantage that velocity distributions in high speed flowfields can be measured simply and accurately by varying the time interval between two different laser beams due to its high signal-to-noise ratio and thereby less requirement of panicle pair numbers for a velocity vector in one interrogation spot. The velocity distribution in the Mach 2.0 supersonic nozzle has been measured and the over-expanded shock cell structure can be predicted by the strain rate field. These results are compared and analyzed with the schlieren photograph for the velocity distributions and shock location.

  • Integrating the Global Positioning System (GPS) and Inertial Navigation System (INS) sensor technologies using the precise GPS Carrier phase measurements is a methodology that has been widely applied in those application fields requiring accurate and reliable positioning and attitude determination; ranging from 'kinematic geodesy', to mobile mapping and imaging, to precise navigation. However, such integrated system may not fulfil the demanding performance requirements when the baseline length between reference and mobil user GPS receiver is grater than a few tens of kilometers. This is because their positioning/attitude determination is still very dependent on the errors of the GPS observations, so-called "baseline dependent errors". This limitation can be remedied by the integration of GPS and INS sensors, using multiple reference stations. Hence, in order to derive the GPS distance dependent errors, this research proposes measurement processing algorithms for multiple reference stations, such as a reference station ambiguity resolution procedure using linear combination techniques, a error estimation based on Kalman filter and a error interpolation. In addition, all the algorithms are evaluated by processing real observations and results are summarized in this paper.

  • In this paper, a precise relative positioning with TD(time differenced) carrier phase measurements from a low-cost GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System) receiver is proposed and analysed. The proposed method is using carrier phase measurement from a single GNSS receiver that reference receiver is not required and stand alone positioning is possible. TD operation removes the troublesome integer ambiguity resolution problem, and if the time interval is short, other error, such as, ionospheric, tropospheric delay and ephemeris error are effectively eliminated. The error analysis of the proposed method shows that a precise and positioning with carrier phase is possible. The implemented system is evaluated using a real car experiments. The results show that the horizontal positioning error was less than 3m during 10 minutes experiments, which is 4 times more precise than the results of normal code based absolute positioning.

  • Sea surface wind field was retrieved from high-resolution SIR-C SAR data by using CMOD algorithms off the east coast of Korea. In order to extract wind direction information from SAR data, a two-dimensional spectral analysis method was applied to the normalized radar cross section of the image. An $180^{\circ}$-ambiguity problem in the determination of wind direction was solved by selecting a direction nearest to the wind vector of the ECMWF reanalysis data. Comparison of the wind retrieval patterns with the ECMWF and NCEP/NCAR dataset showed RMS errors in the range of 1.30 to $1.72\;ms^{-1}$. In contrast, comparison of wind directions revealed large errors of greater than $60^{\circ}$, which is enormously higher than the permitted limit of about $20^{\circ}$ for satellite scatterometer winds. Compared with wind speed results from different algorithms, wind vectors based on commonly-used CMOD4 algorithm showed good agreement with those derived by other algorithms such as CMOD_IFR2 and CMOD5, particularly at medium winds from 4 to $8\;ms^{-1}$. However, apparent discrepancy appeared at low winds (< $4\;ms^{-1}$). This study also addressed an importance of accurate wind direction data to improve the accuracy of wind speed retrieval and discussed potential causes of wind retrieval errors from SAR data.

  • The iconic language interlace is designed to provide more convenient environments for communication to the target system than the keyboard-based interface. For this work, tendencies and features of vocabulary are analyzed in conversation corpora constructed from the corresponding domains with high degree of utilization, and the meaning and vocabulary system of iconic language are constructed through application of natural language processing methodologies such as morphological, syntactic and semantic analyses. The part of speech and grammatical rules of iconic language are defined in order to make the situation corresponding the icon to the vocabulary and meaning of the Korean language and to communicate through icon sequence. For linguistic ambiguity resolution which may occur in the iconic language and for effective semantic processing, semantic data focused on situation of the iconic language are constructed from the general purpose Korean semantic dictionary and subcategorization dictionary. Based on them, the Korean language generation from the iconic interface in semantic domain is suggested.

  • Consistent and realistic error covariance information is important for position estimation, error analysis, fault detection, and integer ambiguity resolution for differential GNSS. In designing a position domain carrier-smoothed-code filter where incremental carrier phases are used for time-propagation, formulation of consistent error covariance information is not easy due to being bounded and temporal correlation of propagation noises. To provide consistent and correct error covariance information, this paper proposes two recursive filter algorithms based on carrier-smoothed-code techniques: (a) the stepwise optimal position projection filter and (b) the stepwise unbiased position projection filter. A Monte-Carlo simulation result shows that the proposed filter algorithms actually generate consistent error covariance information and the neglection of carrier phase noise induces optimistic error covariance information. It is also shown that the stepwise unbiased position projection filter is attractive since its performance is good and its computational burden is moderate.

  • The need for rapid and accurate measurement of 3-dimensional objects is increasing due to the paradigmatic shift in manufacturing from mass production to small batch production. A three dimensional measurement technique which can provide the dimensional information of the object manufactured or to be manufactured has been developed. This method is based on phase shifting moire topology. Digital-Micromirror-Device (DMD) has been used in generating phase shifting moire fringes. And the mechanically moving optical components used for phase shifting, which might result in measurement errors, have been replaced by the DMD. Inherent $2\pi$-ambiguity problem, occurring in the calculation of phase from the light intensity distribution due to the nature of arctangent function, has been overcome by adapting the phase unwrapping method. The advantage of this technique is the easy change of the range and the resolution of the measurement by simply changing the computer generated grid pattern with the appropriate combination of projection lens of various focal length.
