  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the semantic ambiguity of coordination connected by 'and' in English and show a clear explanation for the meaning of the sentence. Two sentences which are connected by 'and' can be divided into the symmetric conjunction and the asymmetric conjunction according to its meaning. Especially, in order to explain the different meaning in the asymmetric conjunctions, we introduce the theory of presupposition and entailment, which provides the solution to the ambiguity in meaning. It can be said that presupposition and entailment can logically explain the meaning of natural language.

  • The present study was conducted to explore how the processing of lexical ambiguity between homonymy and polysemy differs from each other, and whether the representation of mental lexicon was separated from each lexical ambiguity by a semantic priming paradigm. Homonymy (M1 means the literal meaning of '사과', i.e. apple and M2 means another literal meaning of '사과', i.e. apologize) was used in Experiment I, and polysemy (M2 means the literal meaning of '바람', i.e. wind and M2 means the figurative meaning of '바람', i.e. wanton) was used in Experiment 2. The results of both experiments showed that a significant semantic priming effect occurs regardless of the type of ambiguities (homonymy and polysemy) and the difference of their semantic processes. However, the semantic priming effect for polysemy was larger than that for homonymy. This result supports the hypothesis that the semantic process of homonymy is different from that of polysemy.

  • Radar signal simulation is increasingly gaining in importance according as modem radar systems are more complex. Although computer performance has been advanced, it is difficult to implement the real-time simulation because the detailed model for the radar is necessary to get the desired accuracy. In order to achieve real time operation, we propose radar signal generation technique using ambiguity function, Instead of wellknown correlation method. The ambiguity function is the mathematical modeling of the signal processing procedure which is a simulation section to require the most computations.

  • This paper presents the Lexical Ambiguity Resolution System of Korean Language. This system uses Dependency grammar and Collative Semantics. Dependency grammar is used to analyze Korean syntactic dependency. A robust way to analyze a sentence is to establish links between individual words. Collative Semantics investigates the interplay between lexical ambiguity and semantics relations. Collative Semantics consists of sense-frame, semantic vector, collation, and screening. Our system was implemented by C programming language. This system analyzes sentences, discriminates the kinds of semantic relation between pairs of words senses in those sentences, and resolves lexical ambiguity.

  • GPS Receiver gives pseudorange Doppler and integrated carrier phase for measurements to compute navigation information. Thought the integrated carrier phase can be transfer to the equal domain as pseudorange by multiplying the wave length of the received signal, in order to get position information from the carrier phase measurements the integer ambiguity should be resolved. And differencing technique is generally used to eliminate the common error terms of the integrated carrier phase measurements between robber and server. In short baseline double-differencing operation has effect on elimination the common biases for both stations and thus ambiguity resolution are to be reliable. But the baseline increases, the integer ambiguity resolution is hardly, due to the correlated common error is increase ...

  • This paper describes a rule-based approach for syntactic disambiguation used by the English sentence parser in E-TRAN 2001, an English-Korean machine translation system. We propose Parser's Ambiguity Type Information (PATI) to automatically identify the types of ambiguities observed in competing candidate trees produced by the parser and synthesize the types into a formal representation. PATI provides an efficient way of encoding knowledge into grammar rules and calculating rule preference scores from a relatively small training corpus. In the overall scoring scheme for sorting the candidate trees, the rule preference scores are combined with other preference functions that are based on statistical information. We compare the enhanced grammar with the initial one in terms of the amount of ambiguity. The experimental results show that the rule preference scores could significantly increase the accuracy of ambiguity resolution.

  • Syntactic ambiguity can be understood by context usually, especially in reading and writing. Because phonological structure including stress, intonation and phonological phenomena can be pronounced differently according to different syntactic structures, syntactic ambiguity can be solved by phonological structure in listening and speaking. The objectives of this study was to survey how Korean English teachers apply phonological structures in order to solve syntactic ambiguity. The results of this study is as follows: First, Korean English leachers applied Compound Stress Rules well, when the second word was not branched. But they did not apply Compound Stress Rules well, when the second word was branched. Second, several Korean English teachers did not apply Nuclear Stress Rules well. They usually put the strongest stress on the first word. Third Korean English teachers did not differentiate appropriate applying situation of palatalization. They applied palatalization at both the single and the separated Phonological Phrase. Fourth, Korean English teachers did not apply stress shifting when stress crash happened. Because they did not apply stress shifting, they put the strongest stress on inappropriate syllable.

  • A fast and practical method is proposed to resolve the half cycle ambiguity by comparing data sequences from multiple antennas. The method uses the fact that demodulated data sequences from multiple antennas are identical for the same SV (Satellite Vehicle). The performance of the proposed method is evaluated using an attitude determination system. the test results show that the half cycle ambiguity can be resolved within a few bit periods after carrier lock and a seamless attitude is obtained.

  • Line may receiver contains an ambiguity on conjugate bearings, because of lacking aperture in transverse direction. To solve the left/right bearing ambiguity of line-array receiver we used line-array with cardioid beam. In addition, the synthetic aperture method adopts coherent processing of sub-aperture signals at successive time intervals in the beam domain. We presented performances about division of left/right bearing ambiguity according to array synthetic number of times in this paper.
