  • Two different $SnO_2$ nanomaterials(nanowires and nanobelts) were synthesized from the thermal evaporation of ball-milled $SnO_2$ powders at $1350^{\circ}C$ without the presence of any catalysts, and their structural properties are then investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. This investigation reveals that the $SnO_2$ nanowires are single-crystalline and their growth direction is parallel to the [100] direction, and that the $SnO_2$ nanobelts are single crystalline and their shape is zigzag. In addition, photoresponse of a single $SnO_2$ nanowire was performed with light above-gap energy, and different characteristics of photoresponse were obtained for the nanowire at ambient atmosphere and in vacuum.

  • ZnO is a promising material to make high efficiency violet or blue light emitting diodes (LEDs) for its large binding energy (60meV) and big bandgap. But the high quality p-type conduction of ZnO is a dilemma to achieve LEDs with it. In present study, we presented a reliable method to prepare ZnO thin films on (100)silicon substrates by RF magnetron sputtering in the mixture ambient of $N_2$ and $O_2$, accompanying with low pressure annealing in the sputtering chamber in $O_2$ at $600^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$ respectively. X-ray diffraction and Hail effect with Van der Paul method were performed to test ZnO films. Seeback effect was also carried out to identify carrier types in ZnO films and showed the N-doped ZnO film annealed at $800^{\circ}C$ had achieved p-type conduction.

  • We report on the electrical, optical, and structural properties of indium zinc tin oxide (IZTO) anode films grown at room temperature on glass substrate. The IZTO anode films grown by a RF magnetron sputtering were investigated as functions of RF power, working pressure, and process time in pure Ar ambient. To investigate electrical, optical and structural properties of IZTO anode films, 4-point probe, Hall measurement, UV/Vis spectrometer, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were performed, respectively. A sheet resistance of $13.88\;{\Omega}/{\square}$, average transmittance above 80 % in visible range were obtained from optimized IZTO anode films grown on glass substrate. These results shown the amorphous structure regardless of RF power and working pressure due to low substrate temperature.

  • PURPOSES : This study attempts to design and establish the road surface condition detection system by using the image processing that is expected to help implement the low-cost and high-efficiency road information detection system by examining technology trends in the field of road surface condition information detection and related case studies. METHODS : Adapted visual information collecting method(setting a stereo camera outside of the vehicle) and visual information algorithm(transform a Wavelet Transform, using the K-means clustering) Experiments and Analysis on Real-road, just as four states(Dry, Wet, Snow, Ice). RESULTS : Test results showed that detection rate of 95% or more was found under the wet road surface, and the detection rate of 85% or more in snowy road surface. However, the low detection rate of 30% was found under the icy road surface. CONCLUSIONS : As a method to improve the detection rate of the mobile road surface condition information detection system developed in this study, more accurate phase analysis in the image processing process was needed. If periodic synchronization through automatic settings of the camera according to weather or ambient light was not made at the time of image acquisition, a significant change in the values of polarization coefficients occurs.

  • Six images of IRC+10216 taken by the Hubble Space Telescope at three epochs in 2001, 2011, and 2016 are compared in the rest frame of the central carbon star. An accurate astrometry has been achieved with the help of Gaia Data Release 2. The positions of the carbon star in the individual epochs are determined using its known proper motion, defining the rest frame of the star. In 2016, a local brightness peak with compact and red nature is detected at the stellar position. A comparison of the color maps between 2016 and 2011 epochs reveals that the reddest spot moved along with the star, suggesting a possibility of its being the dusty material surrounding the carbon star. Relatively red, ambient region is distributed in an Ω shape and well corresponds to the dusty disk previously suggested based on near-infrared polarization observations. In a larger scale, differential proper motion of multiple ring-like pattern in the rest frame of the star is used to derive the average expansion velocity of transverse wind components, resulting in ~12.5 km s-1 (d/123 pc), where d is the distance to IRC+10216. Three dimensional geometry is implied from its comparison with the line-of-sight wind velocity determined from half-widths of submillimeter emission line profiles of abundant molecules. Uneven temporal variations in brightness for different searchlight beams and anisotropic distribution of extended halo are revisited in the context of the stellar light illumination through a porous envelope with postulated longer-term variations for a period of 10 years.

  • With the development of living standard, people spend more time indoors, and the diversified home decoration will lead to indoor hazardous gas emission. Among them, formaldehyde (HCHO) is one of the most important sources of indoor air pollution, which is commonly found in building materials as a human carcinogen. To address this issue, we developed highly efficient multifunctional green building coatings (GBC) by TiO2, enhancement silica fume (ESF) and spent fluid catalytic cracking catalysts (sFCCC). Among these prepared GBC, the GBC-0.8 exhibited HCHO removal efficiency of 85.0 % under visible light at ambient temperature, which was much higher than that of commercial coatings (30.8%). In addition, moisture adsorption-desorption carrier tests were executed by different humidity. The humidity control capacity of GBC-0.8 could reach 293.8 g/m2 and demonstrate superior stability after 3 cycles. Compared with pristine TiO2, the addition of ESF and sFCCC showed higher specific surface area and pore size distribution, which was beneficial to improve humidity control and photocatalytic degradation performance. This study provides a promising green method for designing multifunctional green building materials coatings to recycle waste into high-value products and remove HCHO at room temperature

  • We investigated growth response and variation of ecological niche breadth of Hibiscus hamabo according to light, moisture and nutrient when global warming is proceeded by elevated $CO_2$ concentration and temperature. H. hamabo was cultivated in experimental condition in the greenhouse that are divided by control(ambient condition) and treatment(elevated $CO_2$ concentration and temperature). Light, moisture and nutrient gradients were treated within the control and the treatment. Although H. hamabo prefers higher light intensity(up to L3) to lowers', Hamabo mallow doesn't like excessive light intensity($787{\pm}77.76{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$). Also, H. hamabo was difficult to grow in absent nutrient(0%) and excessive nutrient(20%). However, there was no trend with moisture gradients. The death rate of H. hamabo in the treatment was higher in all gradients except for the highest light intensity condition than control. It means that range of tolerance about light is narrowed when concentration of $CO_2$ gas and temperature is elevated. There was no trend of death rate according to moisture gradient, comparing between control and treatment. The death rate in all nutrient gradients within the treatment is lower than the controls'. It means that range of tolerance about nutrient is widened. The ecological niche breadth of H. hamabo in the treatment was narrower as 30.1% in light gradients but wider as 8.6% in moisture gradients and 30% in nutrient gradients than in the control. In the conclusion, when global warming is proceeded by elevated $CO_2$ concentration and temperature, growth of H. hamabo would be restricted by light intensity.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the growth characteristics of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L. 'Joeunbaekdadagi') and tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L. 'Dotaerang Dia') seedlings by light intensities and CO2 concentrations in a closed-type plant production system (CPPS). Cucumber and tomato seeds were sown in 50-cell trays and germinated in CPPS at air temperature 25 ± 1℃ and relative humidity 50 ± 10% for 4 days. After germination, the CO2 concentrations and light intensity treatment were treated at 500 (ambient), 1,000, and 1,500 µmol·mol-1 and 100, 200, and 300 µmol·m-2·s-1 photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD), respectively. The leaf area of cucumber showed the highest value in CO2 1,500 μmol·mol-1. However, the leaf area of the tomato had no significant difference in CO2 concentrations and light intensities treatments. In cucumber and tomato both seedlings, the growth and quality such as compactness and leaf area rate were increased with the increase of light intensity, and there were highest in 300 µmol·m-2·s-1. The root surface and number of root tips of cucumber and tomato seedlings were significantly increased with the increase in light intensity. In conclusion, the regulation of the CO2 concentrations and light intensity can control the growth and quality of cucumber and tomato seedlings in CPPS, especially, increasing the light intensity can improve more significantly the growth and quality of seedlings.

  • In this study, measurements of size-segregated particulate matter (PM) emitted from the combustion of rice straw, pine needles, and sesame stem were conducted in a laboratory chamber. The collected samples were used to analyze amounts of organic and elemental carbon (OC and EC), water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC), humic-like substances (HULIS), and ionic species. The light absorption properties of size-resolved water extracts were measured using ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. A solid-phase extraction method was first used to separate the size-resolved HULIS fraction, which was then quantified by a total organic carbon analyzer. The results show that regardless of particle cut sizes, the contributions of size-resolved HULIS ($=1.94{\times}HULIS-C$) to PM size fractions ($PM_{0.32}$, $PM_{0.55}$, $PM_{1.0}$, and $PM_{1.8}$) were similar, accounting for 25.2-27.6, 15.2-22.4 and 28.2-28.7% for rice straw, pine needle, and sesame stem smoke samples, respectively. The $PM_{1.8}$ fraction revealed WSOC/OC and HULIS-C/WSOC ratios of 0.51 and 0.60, 0.44 and 0.40, and 0.50 and 0.60 for the rice straw, pine needle, and sesame stem burning emissions, respectively. Strong absorption with decreasing wavelength was found by the water extracts from size-resolved biomass burning aerosols. The absorption ${\AA}ngstr{\ddot{o}}m $ exponent values of the size-resolved water extracts fitted between 300 and 400 nm wavelengths for particle sizes of $0.32-1.0{\mu}m$ were 6.6-7.7 for the rice straw burning samples, and 7.5-8.0 for the sesame stem burning samples. The average mass absorption efficiencies of size-resolved WSOC and HULIS-C at 365 nm were 1.09 (range: 0.89-1.61) and 1.82 (range: 1.33-2.06) $m^2/g{\cdot}C$ for rice straw smoke aerosols, and 1.13 (range: 0.85-1.52) and 1.83 (range: 1.44-2.05) $m^2/g{\cdot}C$ for sesame stem smoke aerosols, respectively. The light absorption of size-resolved water extracts measured at 365 nm showed strong correlations with WSOC and HULIS-C concentrations ($R^2=0.89-0.93$), indicating significant contribution of HULIS component from biomass burning emissions to the light absorption of ambient aerosols.

  • Thin-film transistors (TFT) have become the key components of electronic and optoelectronic devices. Most conventional thin-film field-effect transistors in display applications use an amorphous or polycrystal Si:H layer as the channel. This silicon layers are opaque in the visible range and severely restrict the amount of light detected by the observer due to its bandgap energy smaller than the visible light. Therefore, Si:H TFT devices reduce the efficiency of light transmittance and brightness. One method to increase the efficiency is to use the transparent oxides for the channel, electrode, and gate insulator. The development of transparent oxides for the components of thin-film field-effect transistors and the room-temperature fabrication with low voltage operations of the devices can offer the flexibility in designing the devices and contribute to the progress of next generation display technologies based on transparent displays and flexible displays. In this thesis, I report on the dc performance of transparent thin-film transistors using amorphous indium tin zinc oxides for an active layer. $SiO_2$ was employed as the gate dielectric oxide. The amorphous indium tin zinc oxides were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering. The carrier concentration of amorphous indium tin zinc oxides was controlled by oxygen pressure in the sputtering ambient. Devices are realized that display a threshold voltage of 4.17V and an on/off ration of ${\sim}10^9$ operated as an n-type enhancement mode with saturation mobility with $15.8\;cm^2/Vs$. In conclusion, the fabrication and characterization of thin-film transistors using amorphous indium tin zinc oxides for an active layer were reported. The devices were fabricated at room temperature by RF magnetron sputtering. The operation of the devices was an n-type enhancement mode with good saturation characteristics.
