The interest in development on luminaires which are available up to $-52^{\circ}C$ is surging as demands in vessels navigating a north pole route increase. A conventional incandescent lamp used in vessels is operated stably at $-52^{\circ}C$, but many countries including Korea have eliminated the use of incandescent lamps gradually because of its low luminous efficacy. In this paper, therefore, to develop the LED luminaires with high-efficiency, long lifetime that enables to substitute for incandescent lamp, it has studied about cryogenic characteristics of LED packages, bulbs, driving circuit and power supply. This experiments were carried out according to standards IEC 60945-8.4.1. Temperature range is from $-60^{\circ}C$ to $25^{\circ}C$, and the light output depending on ambient temperature. It showed that, based on $25^{\circ}C$, light output of a CFL decreased by 80% of CFL at $-20^{\circ}C$ while each increased 12% of LED bulbs and 16~19% of LED packages at $-60^{\circ}C$.
This study performed analysis on the thermal pattern and current characteristics of an LED ((Light Emitting Diode) street lamp. It did this using a TVS (Thermal Video System) to analyze the LED street lamp's thermal pattern, and measured its characteristics using an oscilloscope. The ambient temperature and humidity during the experiment were maintained at $24{\pm}2[^{\circ}C]$ and 50~60[%]. The capacity of the LED street lamp was 120[W] and nine sets of modules were arranged at uniform intervals. On one module, 24 LED lamps were arranged in a radial pattern. The analysis of the thermal diffusion pattern at the front of the LED lamp showed that the maximum surface temperature was approximately $34[^{\circ}C]$. In addition, there was almost no change in the temperature of the upper cover, and the temperature at the side showed a uniform thermal diffusion pattern. The surface temperature of the converter converting AC to DC increased to approximately $46[^{\circ}C]$. The analysis results of the thermal characteristics of one LED indicated uniform thermal characteristics for an initial eight minutes. However, the temperature at the center of the LED increased to approximately $82[^{\circ}C]$ after 12 minutes had elapsed. It can be seen from this that the temperature at the center of the LED was higher than the allowable temperature, $70[^{\circ}C]$ of the insulating material for general electrical devices. Therefore, it is necessary to design a lamp in such a way that the plastic insulating material does not come into contact with or get close to the LED lamp. The voltage of the LED lamp converted by the AC/DC converter was measured at DC 27[V] and the current was DC 13[A]. Consequently, it can be seen that in order to secure an adequate light source, it is important to supply a stable current that was greater than the current of other light sources. Therefore, appropriate radiation of heat is required to secure the stability and reliability of the system.
Light-emitting chromophores have been separated from silica spheres modified the surface with 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propylmethacrylate (TMSPM). The photoluminescence characteristics of the chromophores were investigated with various excitation wavelengths. The TMSPM was attached to the surface of silica spheres at $75^{\circ}C$. Large number of round shaped particles of the TMSPM was on the surface of silica spheres after 3 h reaction. The TMPSM was completely covered on the surface of the spheres after 6 h reaction. The surface modified silica spheres were soaked into acetone and stored for 20 days at ambient condition. The solution color slowly changed from light yellow to deep yellow with the increase of the storing time. The FTIR absorption peaks at 3348, 2869, 2927, 1715, 1453/1377, 1296, and $1120cm^{-1}$ represent C-OH, $R-CH_3$, $R_2-CH_2$, -C=O, C-H, C=C-H, and Si-O-Si absorption, respectively. The FTIR absorption peak at $1715cm^{-1}$ representing the ester -C=O stretching vibration for silica spheres stored for 20 days was increased compared with the spheres without aging. The UV-visible absorption peaks were at 4.51 eV (275 nm) and 3.91 eV (317 nm). There were two luminescence peaks at 2.51 eV (495 nm) and 2.25 eV (550 nm). The emission at 2.51 eV was dominant peak when the excitation energy was higher than 2.58 eV, and emission at 2.25 eV became dominant peak when the excitation energy was lower than 2.58 eV.
A visible-light photoactive $TiO_{2-x}N_x$ photocatalyst was synthesized successfully by means of cogrinding of anatase-$TiO_2(a-TiO_2)$ in $NH_3$ ambient, followed by heat-treatment at $200^{\circ}C$ in air environment. In general, it is well known that the grinding-operation induces phase transformation of a-$TiO_2$ to rutile $TiO_2$. This study investigates the influence of the amount of $NH_3$ gas on the phase transformation rate of a-$TiO_2$ and enhancement of visible-light photocatalytic activity, and also examines the relation between the photocatalytic activity and the period of grinding time. The phase transformation rate of a-$TiO_2$ to rutile is retarded with the amount of NH3 injected. And the visible-light photocatalytic activity of samples, was more closely related to the period of grinding time than $NH_3$ amount injected, which means that the doping amount of nitrogen into $TiO_2$ more effective to mechanical energy than $NH_3$ amount injected. XRD, XPS, FT-IR, UV-vis, Specific surface area (SSA), NOx decomposition techniques are employed to verify above results more clearly.
Recent researches on plant factory system deal with the convergence of lighting technology, agricultural technology inclusive to the high-tech industries worldwide in order to respond to the decreasing crop harvest due to global warming and abnormal weather phenomena. However, the fundamental performance standard is not currently being introduced in the case of plants factory and its commercialization is not activated because of high initial investment and operating cost. Large portion of the initial investment and operating cost of a plant factory is ascribed to artificial light sources and thermal control facilities, therefore, innovation should be provided in order to improve the economics of the plant factory. As an alternative, new plant factory could harness solar thermal and geothermal systems for heating, cooling and ventilation. In this study, a natural light dependent multi-layer plant factory's thermal environment was analyzed with two-dimensional numerical methods to elicit efficient operation conditions for optimized internal physical environment. Depending on the supply air temperature and airflow rate introduced in the facility, the temperature changes around the crops was interpreted. Since the air supplied into the plant factory does not stay long enough, the ambient temperature predicted around the plating trays was not significantly different from that of the supplied air. However, the changes of airflow rate and air flow pattern could cause difference to the temperature around the planting trays. Increasing the amount of time of air staying around the planting trays could improve energy performance in case the thermal environment of a natural light based multi-layer plant factory is considered.
A 2-dimensional temperature field measurement technique using PLIF (Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence) was developed and it was applied to an axisymmetric buoyant jet. Rhodamine B was used as a fluorescent dye. Laser light sheet illuminated a two-dimensional cross section of the jet. The intensity variations of LIF signal from Rhodamine B molecules scattered by the laser light were captured with an optical filter and a CCD camera. The spatial variations of temperature field of buoyant jet were derived using the calibration data between the LIF signal and real temperature. The measured results show that the turbulent jet is more efficient in mixing compared to the transition and laminar jet flows. As the initial flow condition varies from laminar to turbulent flow, the entrainment from ambient fluid increases and temperature decay along the jet center axis becomes larger. In addition to the mean temperature field, the spatial distributions of temperature fluctuations were measured by the PLIF technique and the result shows the shear layer development from the jet nozzle exit.
Seashore joining with land and sea, which is typical habitat for marine macroalgae, is classified two types of shore as soft- and hard-bottom shore according to topographical (geological) and ecological features. We compared two of Ulva pertusa Kjellman from two contrasting habitats, sandy (soft-bottom, Haenam) and rocky shore (hard-bottom, Hadong) in terms of chlorophyll-a fluorescence and its parameters, and various photosynthetic pigment and nutrient content in the tissue of those. Both of habitats were different in the light environment such as light attenuation coefficient and even in nutrient concentration of ambient seawater. Electron transport rate (ETR) of Ulva from sandy shore was higher than from rocky shore. The range of photosynthetic pigment content in the tissue of U. pertusa was significantly much more in from sandy shore, and also nitrogen and phosphorus content were significantly higher except for carbon content. However, there were no significant differences in the ratio of among photosynthetic pigments, and N:P ratio was similar between each other, even though significantly different. Our result implied on the reason of why most of green tides in the worldwide concentrated and frequently occurred at sites with sandy, muddy and silty bottoms, being classified as soft-bottom shore.

The non-utilized biomass of the aquacultured seaweed Undaria pinnatifida, particularly the rhizoid, is an alternative source of arachidonic acid (AA). Of the five aquacultured kelps that were tested, U. pinnatifida yielded the highest amount of AA, which was isolated from the rhizoids. Its identity (C20:4 n-6) was confirmed from gas chromatography-mass spectrometry spectral data. The optimal conditions for post-harvest storage or pretreatment of the rhizoids in Provasoli's enriched seawater for AA extraction were determined to be pH 7.8, 2% $CO_2$-enriched air, 20 ${\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$ light, and $10^{\circ}C$. Under these conditions, the AA content after 1 day of storage was enhanced by up to 127%. In the absence of light under ambient aeration, the AA content after 1 day of storage diminished to 90%. Rhizoids collected late in the season (April and May) contained the highest amounts of AA (approximately 2.5 mg/g tissue).
By the application of novel double detector system of micro-PIXE that can detect light elements (Z<14), we made an attempt to provide a thorough discussion on the aging processes of Asian dust (hereafter called "AD") particle by reaction with sea-slat. The elemental spectra and maps obtained from the microbeam radiation of micro-PIXE to individual AD particles were useful for fractionating AD particles into both internally and externally mixed particles. A spatial distribution of elements in a minute domain of single particle obtained by scanning the microbeam irradiation enabled us not only to estimate the chemical mixing state of individual AD particles but also to presume their aging processes in both ambient air and cloud. By calculating the normalized micro-PIXE net count of elements, it was possible to classify individual AD particles into three distinct groups (i.e., (1) Aging type 1: AD particle coated by the gaseous Cl evaporated by the reaction between artificial acids and sea salt; (2) Aging type 2: AD particle mixed with sea salt but no additional reaction with artificial acids; and (3) Non-aged type) A relatively high transformation rate (63.3-75.9%) was shown in large particles (greater than $5.1\;{\mu}m$ in diameter).
