The frame elements of modern high speed trains are typically fabricated with extruded aluminum panels. However, the sound transmission loss (STL) of extruded aluminum panels is less satisfactory than flat panels with the same surface density. This study proposes a method for prediction of the sound transmission loss of extruded aluminum panels using finite element analysis. The panel is modeled by finite element analysis, and the STL is calculated using a measure of Sommerfeld radiation at the specimen surface, boundary conditions, and the internal loss factor of the material. In order to verify the validity of the predicted value, intensity transmission loss was measured on the aluminum specimen according to ASTM E2249-02. The proposed method of analysis will be utilized to predict the sound insulation performance of extruded aluminum panels for railway vehicles in the design stage, and to establish measures for their improvement.
Recently, ultra-lightweight materials with open, periodic cell structures take much attention owing to its potential for multi-functionality such as load bearing, thermal dissipation, and actuation. This paper presents experimental results on the hydraulic and heat transfer characteristics for the Wire-woven Bulk Kagome(WBK) composed of aluminum 1100 wires. The overall pressure drop and heat transfer of the WBK specimen have been experimentally investigated under forced air convection condition. The pressure loss and heat transfer performance of the aluminum WBK are compared with other heat dissipation media. It was shown that heat transfer depended on relative density and surface area density. Comparison with metal foams and other heat dissipation media such as packed beds, lattice frame materials, louvered fins, and other materials suggests that the aluminum WBK competes favorably with the best available heat dissipation media in heat transfer performance.

In autobody assembly, thin-wall, tubular connections have been used for the frame structure. Recent interest in light materials, such as aluminum or magnesium alloys, has been rapidly growing for weight reduction and fuel efficiency. Due to higher thermal expansion coefficient, low stiffness/strength, and low softening temperature of aluminum and magnesium alloys, control of welding-induced distortion in these connections becomes a critical issue. In this study, the material sensitivity to welding distortion was investigated using a T-tubular connection of three types materials; low carbon steel (A500 Gr. A), aluminum alloy (5456-H116) and magnesium alloy (AZ91C-T6). An uncoupled thermal and mechanical finite element analysis scheme using the ABAQUS software program was developed to model and simulate the welding process, welding procedure and material behaviors. The predicted angular distortions were correlated to the cumulative plastic strains. A unique relationship between distortion and plastic strains exists for all three materials studied. The amount of distortion is proportional to the magnitude and distribution of the cumulative plastic strains in the weldment. The magnesium alloy has the highest distortion sensitivity, followed by the other two materials with the steel connection having the least distortion. Results from studies of thin-aluminum plates show that welding distortion can be minimized by reducing the cumulative plastic strains by preventing heat diffusion into the base metal using a strong heat sink placed directly beneath the weld. A rapid cooling method is recommended to reduce welding distortion of magnesium tubular connections.
There is a critically structural problem of scaffolding system when one of scaffold columns is remove to be used as a gangway for their temporary office in the structure before finishing all such as an apartment or office building. This is not used to checking to structurally checking at a construction site. This study is to find out which system at a site will be more effective and low-cost-high effectiveness of aluminum ladder, timber ladder, ${\phi}$1/2 inch steel pipe truss with a type of concave, convex warren truss ladders. Theses are structurally tested with horizontal set as a truss type with 1.8 meter long. Concentrated load has been loaded at the upper center of the system and checked its strain at the bottom center, using aluminum-use strain gage and steel-use gauge have been attached concave warren truss with diameter 1/2 inch has 14% stronger than convex truss. Convex truss has almost same strength as an aluminum ladder truss, it is found out.

This study investigates on the relationship between total load which is caused by infiltration and insulation thickness against compensation effect. As the result of experiment, the PVC(Synthetic resins sash) window frame in airtightness is superior to the AL(Aluminum sash) window frame. In this study, as the increasing of insulation thickness in reference building does not reduce significantly cooling load, the compensation effect due to airtightness against infiltration is very small. But the compensation effect against infiltration can be closely related with heating load. Therefore, the proper thermal insulation thickness can be needed respect to cooling and heating load.

A three-dimensional finite element model of a 20-pin plastic dual-in-line package(PDIP) plugged into a PCE has been developed by using the finite element code ANSYS. The model has been used for thermal characterization of the package during its normal operation under natural convection cooling. Temperature distributions in the package and PCB are obtained from numerical analysis and compared with experimentally measured data. Various cases are assumed and analyzed to study the effects of package and PCB materials on thermal characteristics of PDIP with and without aluminum heatspreader. Thermal dissipation capability of PDIP is greatly increased due to copper die pad/lead frame and heatspreader. However, thermally induced stresses in the package and fatigue life of chip are improved for PDIP with Alloy 42 die pad/lead frame and no heatspreader. It is also found that the role of PCB on thermal characteristics of PDIP is very imporatant.
The purpose of this study is to suggest the effective analytical procedure using finite element model for the crashworthiness of motorized trailer of high speed train. The static crush of rectangular section frame is analyzed by experiment and numerical simulation. The equivalent thickness distribution of the aluminum frame ensuring the same energy absorption as the steel frame is obtained. In the analysis of end-on collision of TGV-K, deformed pattern and section forces are obtained, and the effect of crushable zone are examined. The numerical results are applied to the design of motorized trailer of Korean high speed train.
Window integrated solar collector is to simply install inside of the existing double glass window frame. Double glass window frame is consist of inner glass of Low-E coating and Silver coating, and outer glass of low iron reinforced glass. In order to secure natural lighting in a room, only 50% of window frame is covered with solar collectors. Solar absorption or transmission rate varies seasonally depending on sun angles. Part of inner glass where right behind of the solar plate is covered with silver coating to increase absorption rate of solar plate. The collector is made of a copper serpentine where aluminum fins are soldering. To improve the effect of insulation of inside of the window frame is recommend vacuum. As a result, we are making the 3th sample and will archieve below $F_RU_L=7.5W/m^2^{\circ}C$ that is the account of heat lossed, and above $F_R({\tau}{\alpha})=0.45$.

It is well known that the targeted fuel efficiency could only be achieved by more than 40% reduction of the vehicle weight through improved design and extensive utilization of lightweight materials. In order to obtain the goal of the weight reduction of automobiles, the researches about lighter and stronger rear sub-frame have been studied without sacrificing the safety of rear sub-frame. In this study, the weight reduction design process of rear sub-frame could be proposed based on the variation of von-Mises stress contour by substituting an AA6061 (aluminum 6061 alloy) having tensile strength of 310 MPa grade instead of SAPH440 steels. In addition, the stress ratio variations (stress over fatigue limit) of the rear sub-frame were examined and compared carefully. It could be reached that this approach method could be well established and be contributed for light-weight design guide and the optimum design conditions of the automotive rear sub-frame development.
